Wearing Cosplay as casual clothing?

Postby *~Vixen~* » Sun Jun 08, 2014 4:36 am

I wanted to get some opinions from other people about this and I think this is the forum to post in (please correct me if I am mistaken)

What is your opinion of wearing cosplay outside of conventions and other events?
Such as just going up town or out with friends.

I recently fell in love with a Gumi cosplay (from Vocaloid) that I found for sale on one of my favourite sites <3
I actually am considering buying it to wear as just normal clothing, not for a convention or anything.

What is your view on this?
Do you think cosplay should only be worn at conventions?
Or do you think people should be able to wear it out and about whenever and wherever they please?

I personally think it is ok, however certain cosplay outfits may be deemed to revealing for every day wear (and many people in the world are judgemental)

Anyone else care to throw in their two cents?

omg i love gumi <3 i think if something is not super huge and bulky, does not involve big pieces of metal, and generally doesn't affect other people, it is fine. a gumi one would be perf <3 but something like the pet in your siggy, minus fire and ghosts? no x3

I know how you feel. xD

I've recently fallen in love with an Attack on Titan cosplay, and if I could afford it/when I can, I would definitely buy it and wear it out in public. I would legit wear it to school next year, believe it or not. (minus the weapons/3D Maneuver gear, of course.)

I also wear my Karkat Vantas cosplay out and about, minus the wig and makeup. (Basically just the shirt, since pants and shoes are just normal ones) And I do it quite often, since it's one of the only black shirts I have. cx

Overall I think it depends on the cosplay, like there's TONS of people on YouTube who wear cosplays out to like the park or store and LARP with each other. No conventions involved. It also depends on you and what/where you're willing to do stuff like that. <3

Agreed with Waz and Dragon. I don't see why you can't, as long as it's not too bulky/has lots of parts. You may get some stares, depending on how 'fancy' it is, though.
I love Gumi! Which cosplay is it, if you don't mind me asking?
There's one of Gumi's cosplays I'd love to own, and I'd definitely wear the under dress part as a sort of summer dress. ^u^

*raises hand* Well, not for the Youtuber part, but I do occasionally wear my LARP outfits OT.
It's actually kind of exciting, especially when people go and ask you about it. Most the time they find it to be genuinely interesting.
Me and a bunch of friends sometimes meet for fighting practise on weekends, and it's much more fun to do that in a full outfit.
(Not to mention practical. What you wear plays a big role in how you move.)
And honestly, we'd attract enough attention just for the weapons anyway :'D

I personally don't think I'd wear a full cosplay on ordinary days, but whoever wants to - go for it. Though it's probably better to choose something that's comfortable to wear.
My fandom-related stuff is limited to casual clothes and accessoires, but I do find more complicated outfits, including cosplay, to be admirable.

It also depends on the environment, I'd guess.
I know I personally would never have had the guts to wear my LARP stuff in school x) But I know there's enough people who would, and as long as they feel comfortable with it and are allowed to, it's their choice.
You'll have to be prepared for some weird stares in any case.
