Did you train Dakota yourself to be a service dog or did you get him from a program or something?

Dakota was self trained. I did get in contact with a local trainer certified in general dog training to evaluate us and do a write up when his training was complete. But all the training I did with him :)

Jumping in this thread as I'm almost 2 weeks into owning a dog, for the first time since I was 12.

Mine is an 8-year-old Anatolian Shepherd, intact female, hovering around 100-110lbs and ~28" at the wither. Having only owned Labs and collies before Anatolians, I don't think I'll ever go back from LGDs. Such a massive difference, even though there are only two people (and a cat) here to guard.

Here she is in 2012. The photos I have are either very dark or have me in them. One day I'll take a picture in the daylight.

Anyway, my intention here is to ask about your experiences & advice on raw/partial raw diets. She's currently on Nature's Domain dry salmon & sweet potato, which is just 3.5 on dogfoodadvisor. I have a good relationship with a local butcher and several friends who hunt, so the potential for odds-n-ends is there.

If you feed raw, how did you start? What do you add besides protein? Do you find it more cost-effective and beneficial to the dog than premade food? For the latter - how do you know?
