Mind if I pop in?
Please note that I am arguing respectfully, as that is how all people should.
I disagree with most of you. I feel that it was righteous for the thread to be shut down. Now I'm not gonna go saying I'm /glad/ that it was shut down or anything because I'm certainly not happy that a big thread of happiness would get shut down.
Most of what I have in my head has been said already. It has been made known by my previous supporters of the shut-down that the thread was riddled with spam. I believe this is true.
You argue by saying the thread is supposed to be things that amuse you, and if spam amuses you, then it must be relevant to the topic of amusement. I have little idea how you came up with this idea.
I have a personal argument to fight with.
You have said that one of the purposes of your thread was to amuse people allthewhile making friends and introducing new people.
And he is where my argument comes in.
When I joined CS, I was a COPPA member. I used to love to watch the threads that all if the amazing super cool normal people could write on. I specifically remember watching the things that amuse you thread when it was smaller. Of course it was still large, but not at all compared to today.
I literally dreamed of being able to post on threads like that when I lost my COPPAship.
And when that amazing day came I was horribly disappointed. I went to go check the things that amuse you thread, to discover that it didnt seem like I would easily fit myself in.
All I saw was a group of friends randomly chatting. They seemed to already be chatting about things that went so many pages back. And I couldn't really find my way in. Who was I to barge in and interrupt their conversation that seemed to last an eternity?
To put it bluntly, I did not feel like I would be at all welcomed there. It seemed to be just a big group of people who seemed to know each other very closely. It seemed more like a large personal discussion than an open place to share to me.
And so I never posted. I felt like my posts saying random normal stuff like "I am amused by this video" would not fit in with pages of spammy chat.
The thread was so riddled with spam, that it actually repelled me. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way, either.

I am a supporter of your reasoning. I agree with it. I was un'COPPA'd when I joined, back in 2013 but I remember I posted several times on the "Things that Amuse you" with no trouble at all. However, a few weeks back, I went to share a funny gif that I had found while browsing the Internet only to find a huge group of friends chatting. I had no idea what they were chatting about it and I was scared to post my gif. After all, their conversation had been going on for three or four pages and I didn't feel like I should post my gif at all. They all knew each other very well, even dedicating the tops of their posts to "@____________" and I didn't know what they were talking about or if I should post my gif.
I ended up leaving the thread disappointed. I just wanted to post a funny gif and instead I found a group of close-knit friends laughing and chatting for so many pages. However, I agree that we should get a second chance on opening the thread again and having it closely monitored until we can prove that it'll be kept spam-free.

They essentially turned it into a chat thread for a select group of people, and that makes it a lot less fun to post on if you feel like you are interrupting something when you post. The thread quickly became not fun for just about everyone that wasn't them.

I have posted on that forum on the past, well the ones before this one I believe or just looked through it and people posted normal things that amused them, like a gif or a picture. But now that I look through this version of the thread, there is so much random chatting about who knows what. I'm not saying that I wanted the thread to get locked but I agree that there was a ton of annoying spam about random things.
