Dixie is doing a lot better and has calmed down since the incident a couple days ago. I took Sara's and Link's advice and took her out back later to play -just me and her- and try to loosen up. I'm still irritated about that pit's owner though. The dog was loose again this morning and in our front yard. Luckily, our dogs were all inside.
Anyway, thank you everyone for your kind words and encouragement. I was really upset and just feeling angry and shaken. I was mostly afraid of what might have happened had I not been able to hold onto her, and that all our hard work might have just all gone down the drain.
