When I got my guy from my friend, I suspected he had fin rot, but wasn't too sure if it was or not. After watching him for a couple of days and watching it get worse, I know it is. Right now, I have him in the 1-gallon he came in. This morning, I did an 100% water change and added some aquarium salt and stress coat. I'm worried sick about him, since he had gotten worse since last night...and I'm leaving the country day after tomorrow, so my dad'll have to take care of him. What do you think about what I've been doing? Effective? Not? :c
I've cleared betta fin rot with nice warm, clean water in a matter of days. ^^
I kept the temperature a few degrees warmer than normal. I did one really big water change and then a series of smaller ones every day for about a week. I also used Stress Coat.
Some people also swear by aquarium salt, but I've never tried.
The most important thing is don't overfeed, since that food will rot and dirty the water.

How many tanks do you have: 1 in use, 3 that I keep making plans for, researching and deciding that I despise my old plans.
Type of fish that you have: Only Goldfish at the moment.
Your fish's names: Billy
How long have you had fish: 10 years
How many gallons is your tank? : I saldy don't know as it is a hand-me-down from my cousin. (In our family if someone has a pet item that they no longer need or want it normaly goes to another person in the family that can use it.
How many fish and what types are they? : 1 Goldfish
How long has it been running? : 8 years (6 for other fish and four for Billy.)
Did you cycle it? : No as I didn't know anything about fishkeeping back than other than "Put the fish in and feed it every day."
If possible what are the ammonia nitrite and nitrate levels? : I don't have a test kit. (I was going to buy one but then I ended up spening all my monney that I had saved up on flowers for the garden instead and can't make the 25 mile trip to get my water tested at the nearest LFS.)
What is the issue or question? : How can I stop alge? I don't overfeed my fish and he usualy has all of the food gone in seconds but it still grows on everything and is nearly impossible to get off.
If I'm not answering, I'm probably at work. I usually get on in the late evening my time (listed timezone below)Pronouns are they/them and you can call me Starfalling, M, or Morgan. I'm in Pennsylvania which is on EST (CStime -4)I love trading, although I'm recently back from a long hiatus so I'm not fully up to date on demand. For any current event pets, I’ll only trade them away if I have a double, and I don't trade growing pets Real life got hectic and I somehow missed the whole month of May on here. Looking for all May pets, will keep WL updated as I goI use bold a lot because it's easier for me to read, since you can't change other people's font size and being zoomed in constantly is annoying I am a holibomber!

The alge is mainly Green, my tank is near a window (All of them are but for some reson the window only seems to be getting rid of alge in the other two.), my tank doesn't have a light since I have no plants, and I do water changes weekly.

Well, green algae IS good algae which means you tank is healthy(brown or red algae is bad). A good investment would be a algae brush(they are sold at most pet stores that deal with fish). Goldfish can eat the green algae so I would not take all of it away(maybe leave a spot in a hidden part at the back of the tank). Other people may tell you differently so don't just go by me

Algae is good to a certain extent, but not in large amounts, especially if you don't have a light source that you could blame. If algae is growing, it probably means your tank has high ammonia and nitrate levels which can hurt the fish in the short and long run. Scrape it off for now, but definitely save up for the water test kit and educate yourself on ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels in an aquarium and also about cycling a tank. I used to just throw fish in water too, but when you do things properly, it makes a world of difference. Fishkeeping is a hobby that requires a lot of work and research, as well as a bit of money to get yourself started. Its not for everyone.

FINALLY found a storage box big enough for fancy goldies. With any luck, I'll be able to get it on Friday
What would be the best type of filter? My personal favourite is the Interpet power filter, but I don't know if it'd be suilable for pealscales/bubbleeyes.
AWESOME. How big is it so I can look into one myself(to keep random fish I find in it lol).
Description says 160ltr, but when I put the measurements into an online aquarium volume calculators, it said just over 205ltr.
So I can't be sure exactly till I get it XD

that is plenty big for what I was looking for(it equals 54 gallons, which can hold one or two goldfish comfortably or even be used to hold reptiles and such). thank you for the size
