Short Story:
[Tranquility's POV]
It is loud. Oh, so loud. I quiver next to my mother, fear stuck in my eyes. I nicker with worry as I am yanked away from her. I was just a foal when I went through my first auction. I anxiously paced next to the handler when I was led on stage, staring at all the faces. And they all yelled so loudly. So loud! I jumped halfway to the moon when the gavel slammed down next to me. This wasn't what I wanted. I went through too many auction to count. And then came the last.

[Owner's POV]
I held a shiny new halter in my hands as I leapt from my truck. I patted my silver trailer as I walked past, hoping to load a horse into it today. I sat down in a seat to watch. As the auction began, I was hopeful. Each horse was better than the last, but I felt no connection with any of them. I like to look into a horse's eyes to see its inner thoughts. Here, I saw nothing that was worth it. I knew there was some other horse waiting.
There was. She had no special entrance, no glorious, shining glow around her. In fact, she came in jumping around the stage. With wild, wide eyes, she surveyed our staring faces. I narrowed my eyes, and noticed that at every loud noise, every call, she jumped. This noise had killed her sanity. I guessed that she had been through many auctions.
Here coat seemed golden in the sunlight, and it was interrupted with appaloosa spots. She was perfect. Without really hearing myself, I bid. Few people bid, as they did not see much in such a skittish horse. I raced to find my newest addition. I longed to take her from these busy, bustling noises as quick as I could. I threw her old, frayed halter on the dirt ground and replaced it with a new, turquoise and leather halter. I led her into my trailer and shut the door.
I acted like a child, racing away from the auction and towards the open country. When I found my destination, a flew from the truck and to the trailer. I opened the door and hurried the new addition out. The mare was no longer a jittery mess. She stopped often while I was leading her to stop, prick her ears, and sniff the air. Quiet was all she needed.
I took her to a pasture not filled with horses and let her go free. The mare turned, eyeing me, and then the open land. She waited, and waited some more. All at once, she reared up and went flying into the quiet day. She only stopped once she was a small form at the back of the pasture. I smiled and turned away to go get the stall ready for the new mare.
All she needed was a little tranquility.
