xxxxxhis fingers tapped endlessly at the small phone screen before him. the device in his hands had been his salvation the entire trip. he didn't do well during roadtrips, only felix knew the real hell spencer was truly capable of. although spencer had kept himself properly occupied for the full two hours, he still felt the car sickness twist and turn in his stomach. it was an uncomfortable feeling. spencer had dealt with car sickness before, he usually had to prop himself up in strange positions to challenge his own stomach, and that's exactly what he was doing. seeing as there were only two seats in each row on each side of the aisle, spencer sat behind his little brother. that could only mean trouble. spencer had his feet up resting on each side of felix's head, and his torso lay flat in order to keep his long legs up and bent.
xxxxxspencer did not expect his brother to do anything about it, he never really did. sure he passed hints that any educated person could pick up, but spencer ignored each and every last one. it was his duty as felix's big brother, or at least that's what he believed. so spencer continued to invade felix's bubble, and he continued to tap at his phone, letting out a grunt of despair each time his tapping was no good. he was playing games, of course, it was the best way to kill time. the longer he spent playing the game, the better he got. things were going a-ok in the virtual world. that was until spencer was pulled back to reality.
xxxxxhis brother was the culprit, hustling out of the bus like he had always done best. unfortunately for spencer, felix's motivation to get out of here mean't no more comfort, so he sat up, and let out a long groan. "where's the fire, bud?" spencer scratched his head, and then pushed his brown hair out of his face. "yeah, I'll wake him up. see you inside. don't have too much fun without me, you hear?" in a flash, felix was gone, and spencer was left with a drooling, snoring roussel. he was so peaceful in this state, it was relaxing and so unlike awake roussel.
xxxxxalthough spencer enjoyed the peace and quiet, his job was to awake the beast, so he did it the best way that he knew how. spencer slowly put his head closer to the sleeping roussel, a devious smirk on his face. for a moment things were quiet, and then spencer's voice split the air. "wake up!" spencer yelled directly into roussel's ear, and then pulled his head back to avoid the aftershock. spencer was pleased with himself to say the least as he pulled his backpack over his shoulders, and then took hold of his luggage with a stern grip. "we're here." spencer said plainly. "I'll meet you inside... it smells like feet in here." spencer made a look of disgust, and then slowly turned away from roussel to exit the bus, and enter the building.
xxxxxnot knowing exactly what to do, he followed his nose to the table of hot chocolate, taking one into his hands, and then turning to look at a piece of paper pinned on a bulletin. it must've been the rooming arrangements considering that there were room numbers, and then names. his was next to roussel's. "what goes around comes around, I guess." spencer sighed, and then pressed the mug to his lips to drink the hot liquid.

roussel .
xxxxxhe had a late night, and an early morning. it probably was a bad idea to save a majority of his packing an hour before his flight would leave the airport, but roussel didn't make great decisions. it was a curse of his, one that he couldn't escape. all that he knew was that he was thankful to have the long flight and the long bus ride to get some extra sleep in. as soon as he was ushered onto the bus two hours ago, he took his seat, and instantly fell asleep with his backpack under his head as if it were a proper pillow. according to roussel, it was a proper pillow for the time being.xxxxxroussel had managed to keep the same position he had fallen a sleep in, he looked quite ridiculous. he was sideways in his chair, he was snoring quite loudly, and his right leg was extended far out into the aisle of the bus. he didn't care what he looked like, he was comfortable. that's all that mattered when you were desperate for sleep.xxxxxalthough he was very comfortable, and in a deep slumber, it was bound to last for so long. especially with friends like felix and spencer who had years of payback to make up for. it was as if those two only got up every morning to get back at roussel for every embarrassing moment he supplied. felix was a little calmer about it, but spencer... spencer had a passion for this lifestyle.xxxxxspencer's battle cry was easily enough to wake roussel in under a second. his eyes opened up wide, a gasp escaped his lips, and his hands grabbed the seat. when he finally regained composure, he looked up at spencer with an angry look on his face. "sainte mère --" he breathed, realizing he was not in montreal at the moment. "you suck." he pointed at spencer, and threw a fist into his stomach before he could go. when spencer walked away, down the aisle, roussel looked at him, and began to yell. "yeah, that's right, walk away, I'll mess you up." he was obviously joking. it's what he did.xxxxxroussel then turned to look back at the occupants of the bus while he slung his backpack over his shoulder. "kids, gotta love them, am I right?" he stood up slowly, shaking his head in the process. "I'm gonna kill him." roussel laughed lightly, nodding his head as he grabbed his luggage. with that, he exited the bus, and headed for the lodge.

Aurora had spent the last three days traveling and had caused massive jet lag. The Australian girl had spent day one traveling from her little home town at the base of a cluster of mountains in the Australian Great Dividing Range somewhere in Central New South Wales. She hadn't always lived there, she had been born in Sydney but her snow loving parents had introduced their five kids to either snow boarding or skiing and they became so involved that they had to move for the limited amount of time the Australian Alps held snow. She loved her country alright but was disappointed in its snow quality compared to other countries she had boarded in.
Day two had involved flying to America, the twenty-two hour trip had thoroughly tired her. She had spent half of it sleeping and half of it watching movies on the back of the chair aeroplane televisions and playing on her phone while replying to her texts from her over protective mother, thinks-he-is-still-cool father, annoying older brothers, trouble making younger brother and two best friends. Day three was today, traveling for two hours on a bus that, like all road vehicles, made her very car sick, not puking but nauseous and massive headaches so bad that she only managed to talk to Nate sitting next to her for the first half hour.
Nate was the only international friend she had made while snowboarding, they had instantly clicked, similar personalities, same style in snowboarding, both with a background in skateboarding and both with similar snowboarding weaknesses. They had kept in contact, phones, Skype and all other means of communications. She was ecstatic when she found out they had both made it in. It had just been casual talk and catching up until she stared out the window and fell for some much needed sleep. She had woken every now and then enough to have a max five minute chat with Nate and then falling back asleep.
She didn't notice when the bus stopped but the shout from Spencer to Roussel managed to wake her up. She gave a bleary eyed laugh at the mock argument between the two nineteen year olds. She had met them both previously at competitions but hadn't talked to them much, she actually couldn't remember anything than a quick hi. "Shove over." She pushed Nate out of the seat so she could get past him pulling her luggage with her snowboard and multiple bags. She wasn't one to pack much but even though it was a lot for her it was nothing compared to what she saw the others carrying.
She followed the few other people that had exited the bus before her, not rushing but hoping Nate would catch up. Walking inside she grabbed a hot chocolate first, whenever she went snowboarding no matter how unhealthy the hot chocolate was she always had one. Sitting down in a chair she dumped her luggage at her feet and tucked her knees up as she slowly sipped the chocolate, well not slowly but slow compared to her usual gulping.

-----Maureen looked down at her iPod laying gently in her hands, and pressed for the next song on the rotary dial. Having an iPod classic with 260mb (filled to almost full capacity) on shuffle meant that she really had no idea what song was going to come on next. Luckily for her, it was one of her favorites. Suego Faults by Wolf Gang. Immediately, she started mouthing the words along, and brought her attention back to the flashing scenery on the other side of the window. Her eyes shifted up to the clouds, above the treetops. They were large and puffy, and a medium grey. Dark enough to know that there will be snow, but not dark enough to tell how soon it would fall. In the small spaces between clouds, she could see the bright blue sky, and streaks of sun passing through.
-----Almost the whole bus ride Maureen sat in the same position. Feet up on the seat, knees pulled into her chest, headphones on and an interested stare out the window. She had hardly paid any attention to the others on the bus. She was much more interested in nature. Having an expensive family, she had only ever gone to tropical locations for vacations. It was so odd to be in a place that looked so similar to Michigan, but was a completely different place entirely. Looking out of the window captured Maureen's attention like flies to honey. Graffiti and forests particularly interested her, especially when graffiti was hundreds of feet in the air on a building, or when trees were so tall she had to crane her neck to see the tops.
-----When the bus finally pulled up, Maureen eyed the building, inspecting it. It looked very rustic, which pleased her greatly. Warm colors and comforting woods. She lowered her legs back down on to the floor, stretching them out as much as she could. They hadn't fallen asleep, somehow, considering they were bent up for the entire bus ride. Maureen stood slowly and pulled her headphones down around her neck, looking at all the people quickly trying to shove their way off the bus. She rolled her eyes slightly to herself, then threw her pack over her shoulder, and grabbed her two suitcases. She shipped her equipment here a few weeks ago, so she wouldn't have to deal with unloading all of that along with her clothes.
-----Once people stopped trying to shove each other out of the way to get a spot in the isle way of the bus, Maureen slipped into place between two others. The luggage made it particularly hard to "slip" in, but she tried her best. Being one of the last few people off the bus gave her the opportunity to slip her way through the crowd inside without being picked out. She left her bags by the door, and began to weave through the people, making her way to the table that seemed to have food and drinks. She had been too nervous to eat this morning before leaving the hotel for the bus, but now that the nerves had worn off she was starving. However, she was horribly disappointed when it turned out that there was nothing more on the table than hot chocolate. She sulkily made herself a cup, then began to walk back through the crowd once more, unaware of what else there was to do. She brought the steaming cup to her lips and took a small sip, cussing lightly when it burned her tongue and the roof of her mouth.

KYLA MUNDANE

╚____________________________________╝
Kyla bit her lip in frustration as the bus hit the thousandth pothole of the trip. The biting combined with the jumping of the bus resulted in a bleeding cheek for the irritated girl. She groaned obnoxiously as she tasted the signature taste of blood trickle onto her taste buds. After uncomfortably swallowing the tangy blood, her face resumed the cold expression she was famous for, tight lips, narrowed eyes, locked jaw. Her feet were splayed out on the seat beside her, her back pressing against the frosted glass. The frost only barely nipped her through the over sized, burgundy sweatshirt she was enveloped in. A black beanie encased her hair which was tugged in a loose braid that cascaded down her right shoulder to the bottom of her rib cage. Yet another bump on the road brought the young girl back to attention, her eyes flicking up in interest before settling back down to her knees.
Her mind was still trying to comprehend how she was accepted into the academy. Kyla had always been well aware that she was a top competitor, to the discontent of her competitors, but she never dreamed was was good enough to be the pick of the crop. In fact, when she got the letter of admission, her whole body froze and failed to thaw for roughly five minutes. The shock just took over her body, resulting in something like a comma. After the thawing commenced, her eyes lit up and a giant smile captured her face. Kyla had never been much of a dancer, but at that moment, she could have been on broad way. her whole family was confused to the point of terror as she shook and hugged each and every one of them until her head calmed down to rationality. It was then her parents found out the news and they had always wanted to be famous, so they let her go. As Kyla was the last chance at fame they had.
Kyla vaguely registered the stop of the bus, although she didn't come to a full awakening from her dreamy state until she heard a couple masculine voices in a mock argument. She peered up through her eyelashes and tugged one earbud out to listen to their argument, all the while she couldn't help but admire one boy. She remembered him quite well, which was surprising for her. Unfortunately, her encounter with him happened directly after her messy breakup with Spencer, who was also one of the boys in the argument. She placed Spencer safely in her peripheral vision, though, contently focusing on the boy who was the first to enter the chill outside.
As the boy dissapeared into the cold, Kyla snapped her knees to her chest and did one last stretch, her fingers reaching for the sky, before straightening up. Her black, floral boots clunked against the floor as she used her muscular thighs to heave herself up. With the other earbud resting in her palm, she returned her earphones to the side pocket of her nike duffel bag. With her fingers curled around the handle of each duffel bag, plus a tribal-printed backpack hanging off her shoulder, Kyla shuffled into the aisle behind some girl.
The chill hit her bare hands with a dulled shock, turning them a bright pink. Blowing some warm air to the atmosphere simply to see her breath, she gently smiled as it resulted in a puff of fog in front of her face. Heaving a content sigh, she continued through the doors, mouthing a thank you to the heat. She took a seat after grabbing a cup of hot chocalate. her pale pink fingers with deep purple nails curled around the mug as her breath blew across the surface to cool it down.

xxxxxpeople piled in one after another. he could feel the lodge getting fuller and fuller. it didn't bother him, spencer was a people person. the kind of guy who was able to talk down a police officer, and a parent of a friend. his skill was helpful to his parents, but most the time it was another reason to cringe, and ground poor spencer. he definitely wasn't the armstrong golden child, that title belonged to his older sister, and his younger brother felix. both of them had brought home big shiny trophies quite often whilst spencer really just turned in his hockey ice skates for a brand new snowboard. it was so strange how his parents could have such a problem with spencer pursuing snowboarding, but they were fine with puppy-dog-eyed felix taking it on. maybe it was because spencer was reckless. a little too reckless. it was like he didn't fear death. it was like he didn't fear anything.xxxxxspencer smiled at the thought. his parent's distress was a little too funny at times. it was way better to bust a tooth on a mountain top than from a hockey puck, spencer didn't understand why his father insisted that injuries in hockey were more worth-while. his dad had always been a hockey nut, but that was just outrageous. with a sigh, spencer looked up to see roussel walking in with tired eyes, and slow legs. a smile curved spencer's lips. "you look tired." spencer mocked, his smile turning into a smirk.xxxxx"sparky told me you had some big going away party last night." his voice trailed off. "now usually I'd be mad at you, because you didn't invite me. but then I realize you were in montreal, and I. I was not. and even I know you plus a party is a bad idea." spencer sighed, but continued to smile. "just let me ask you one question, buddy, was the booze worth it?" his smile grew bigger, as if that was even possible.xxxxx"oh, and how did your mom react when you crawled into bed at two a.m.? did she even notice, or did she yell at you in french. that's my favorite, I'm sorry, but it just sounds so lovely, but you know she's angry." spencer let out a long sigh. he had a lot to say to roussel, but that was because roussel was asleep the entire trip, so he didn't get the chance to go on and on there. "guess who I saw on the bus? margarette. she's pretty cute, why did you dump her again?" spencer's eyes scanned the room, he spotted his brother. sitting alone, of course. he was always sort-of a recluse in new situations.

by this point, sky had expected to be a bitter, grumbling mess. for the past weeks she had been on planes, buses and taxis nonstop. first, she left colorado to fly back to russia and visit her family and get a bit of quality practice time in. going back home always helped calm skyler down and improve focus for any type of competition. her mum's side were never the usual eccentric and family-orientated relatives. they were just as invested in snow sports as sky was, so she could count on them more than she could count on her coach. after a week there she had flown straight from russia to vancouver to begin her time in windell. being accepted hadn't come as a huge surprise, but skyler had be pretty pleased about it. she had worked her butt off to get to this point, and sky knew she deserved every second at windell. even with her arrogant opinion regarding her acceptance, as the bus drive came to an abrupt end she found herself being a little more excited than she originally anticipated.
"looks like it," she muttered softly, glancing back at margarette. she was immensely glad to have the redhead around since sky had yet to discover if anyone else she knew was attending. her eyes had been glued to her countless magazines for almost the entire ride, and caued her to miss a chance to place faces with names. she had momentarily bent down to grab her things, smiling and shaking her head at mars when the girl offered to help with luggage. "it seems to me that your hands are full. but thanks for the offer," the russian girl said assuredly, straightening back up with her bags in her lap. before skyler even had a chance to move, some idiot in the seats behind her forcefully whacked the side of her head with his feet. she had been more than aware of his feet looming over her head for the entire ride, this had been bound to occur. "excuse me? what do you think yo-" her voice and tone started rising slightly out of irritation. to make matters worse, he got up and left like nothing even happened. sky's temple was currently throbbing and the pain wasn't a great addition to her newly soured mood. her mumbled a string of incoherent russian under her breath as she stormed off the bus without caring about who she knocked into during her mini-rampage. why were american boys so void of manners?
it wasn't long until there was no sight of the prick who carelessly caused her a headache, but sky was sure to not forget to put him in his place sooner or later. it took nearly a minute of deep breathes and cycles of ten for her to get to a point where she could act civil towards the other students. what if they were all just as disrespectful? it was wrong to make such assumptions, but skyler couldn't help it. once she started getting suspicious and judgmental, there really wasn't a way to change her mind. with an exasperated sigh, sky searched fro a decent seat, her head down as she made her way through the lobby. to her relief, margarette wasn't difficult to spot. after setting her things down in a pair of seats, skyler met up with her friend at the table littered with plastic cups of hot chocolate. "sorry, i lost you for a minute there. have you seen the room assignments yet?"
