Role Play Rules for this board:

written by forum user Tanta Mally :)

1. God Modding or God Play: When one person has control over other characters that are not theirs and without the permission of the character's player. Also instead of attempting to attack another player, they may state that their is certain to strike a blow to the other character(s).

2. Grave Digging: Constantly bumping a thread when it has obviously lost all interest or classified as dead.

3. Mary-Sues and Gary-Sues: Irritating for other players on the thread. These types of characters are often considered perfect, during battle are never hit, the most graceful, stunning, flawless, strongest, ect.

4. Role Play isn't reality: If someone's character calls another person's character a name, picks fights with them frequently or isn't overly nice to them, don't take it personally. There has been countless times when two Role players get into a fight because of something that happened in it. Then moderators end up having to break up the fight, people get stressed then everything starts to snow-ball. So try not to take a role play character's attitude to heart.

5. Leaving for Dead: This occurs when there is a multi-person player role play (lets say five people for example) and three go offline. The remaining two post about an entire page or more of posts for the characters. When the others come back they find a greatly annoying surprise for them. Sometimes, they may request a quick fill-in as an easy way to catch up. But constantly typing up what has just happened can get frustrating, or some people may not do it at all. Bottom line, be courteous of other role players and restrain from posting a million posts between two people.

6. Rights of a non-moderator: If someone starts a role play, they have control over the rules throughout it. If someone is caught breaking those rules, they can be kicked out. They started the role play, and they can just as easily finish it. But it is never a very good thing to close down a good role play because someone acted up. But don't forget that, just because someone created the role play and it's rules, doesn't mean they aren't supposed to follow the rules themselves. If you notice some rule breaking. Remind the person kindly. The same goes for if the creator of the thread is abusing their powers. But never feel threatened if the rules may seem a little strict, it's sometimes better if they are.

7. Mini-plots: The ever popular mini-plot is born when there is already a plot to the role play (eg: the characters must find some sort of sacred diamond to restore peace to the world), then someone wants to add their own twist to another person's role play. For example: the character may start to have flash backs of past lives that then intrude on their present and side track the entire main-plot entirely. This is often annoying for the creator of the role play and can be irritating for others also.

8. Spam: A major pet hate to everyone who prowls the Role Play boards. Spam can be used when someone types in OOC (out of character) more often than needed. This is alright if it is a post to fill someone in, but if it is mostly just chat or something totally irrelevant to the thread, then it can become discouraging to other role players who might begin to think otherwise about the spammer.

9. Perfection come in bite sized pieces: It is true that alot of people are overly souped up on their role play skills. Let's face it. No one is perfect, but the least we can do is try to improve on anything that we may lack. Sometimes people may forget the rules or accidentally post something in chat speak ect. But don't get worked up over it.

I have two:
1. No god-modding
2. No power-playing (unless you have permission)

God-modding
When your character is invincible, can perform feats that you could say are impossible, etc etc.

Power-playing
Controlling another players character(s). It can be from simply stating so-and-so follows you to more barbaric things like killing another character. Some people might give you permission to role play their characters, though, like if they're leaving or something.

What about having a story to them? like, don't just throw a topic into the open without a story with it.

Having a story to a roleplay is fine; not having a story to begin with would pretty much make the roleplay boring, right? You just can't control other people's characters, unless given permission by the person who created the character. For example:

Bad- *Character's hame here* kicked *Other character's name here*, and knocked him/her over.

Good- *Character's hame here* attempted to kick *Other character's name here*, trying to knock him/her over.

Yeah, I know the examples are bad, and not good examples of posts at all, but I think it provides a pretty good idea of power-playing. I'm not sure how to give an example of god-modding, so I'm not even going to try. ;)

Powerplaying and god modding in this bad example.

Bad:
Claw:Claw threw Silver against the wall. Then he chuckled at her.
Silver: Having being thrown against the wall and being laughed at, she got angry and grew wings and flew away.
Claw:Claw grew wings and followed her.
Good:
Claw: Claw atempted to throw Silver at the wall. He then chuckled at her.
Silver:Silver being thrown at the wall, she hit square. She then threw herself at Claw.
Claw:Claw evades the attack just in time to try to grab her.
Silver: Silver gets grabbed ust in time before falling off the cliff.

And who knows what happens after that?

I have seen countless role plays with no plot, and most of them have gone superbly. Often, if there is no plot, there is often player-created mini-plots with allow people to use their own imagination and add to a plot that all of the role players might form. So not all non-plot role plays are boring. Sometimes, people might have a setting, problems or threats that may occur to the characters in the role play and that was basically the plot. ^-^

Also, god-modding, god-playing and power-playing often get confused with each other. Mary/Gary-sues can get mixed up with god-modding, god-playing and power-playing sometimes to. Give them any fancy name you like, bottom line is just don't do it. If you forget, it's ok. No one is perfect. =]

Do you think there should be a note asking people to try not to make duplicates? I'd just signed up for a roleplay a few minutes ago and, what do you know, a member of that roleplay started a new one almost exactly like the one we were already in.
I don't know if it's just me that's finding it frustrating that there are so many similar and duplicate roleplays around, but if it's not just me, perhaps we should take this into consideration?
Of course, I am just a new kid round here, perhaps you've already had this discussion.

Okay, I have a wolf RP website of my own(the link is in my profile- hehe, shameless advertising)and I was wondering if I could use my she-wolf character from there. It's my character anyway, so it wouldn't matter.....right? 8-)
I don't go on this website anymore, or atleast under this username. I may resurface on a new account, but don't expect me to.
I hope everyone is alright with it. I'll be missing you all!

I'd say that characters shouldn't curse (and if they do, keep it to a minnimum?), since young kids make up the majority of the population on CS.

Of course, since she's your character, you have all rights to roleplay her~ XD

As for duplicate roleplays, there's bound to be duplicates. If there was to only be one of each type of roleplay, roleplays would be extremely crowded, and practically explode, assuming that there are loads of people wanting to roleplay similar things. I'd imagine that people would be left behind, besides the fact that there are a few people around (including me) who dislike crowded roleplays.
