How are her fins? Any deterioration? Any red streaks in the fins? Or lesions on the body? Is she in the same tank that the others used before dying?

The rapid patterns and then lying still is what several of our bettas did when they had what we now believe to have been fish TB.

I'm pretty sure she looks the same. Her fins look fine, no red streaks.

The tank is new and only she's been in there.

What's the temperature of the tank, water change schedule, etc?

Typically when a betta acts like this it's because something is irritating them, whether it's illness (such as lesions from TB), parasites, fungus, etc.

what is the average size from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail fin for a male veiltail betta? mine is about 4 inches long and I don't think it is normal XD.

I think between 2-3 [including the tail] is average for a normal betta [ie not King/Giant betta]. c:

From the nose to the tail fin edge...my mom's two veiltail boys are about 4" as well, one's just under a year old, and the others a little over a year old...her plakat female (1 year old) is about 3 inches without fins (she's huge), and our two halfmoons are about 2.5 - 3" long in body.

How long have you had fish: At first I owned bettas, but I don't know how long I had them. Must have been at least 6 years. After the last betta died, I got a larger tank (the ten gallon tank) and got the platies, which I've had for about a year. Maybe two.

I look back now and realize that I probably should have kept the bettas in a larger tank. I owned them one at a time, not all at once but still, they would have appreciated a larger tank. That was back when I didn't know any better.

Anyways, I'd really like a betta again. What is the best size tank for a male betta? If I got females instead of a male, how many would be the best number and how large should the tank be? (assume that I could get a tank large enough for them). I didn't have a filter for the last tank (the one gallon tank) and want to know what type is the best for bettas.

A Betts needs at least 2.5 gallons in my opinion but most people will say five gallons. Never keep two females together as they will only pick on each other. I recommend five or more females they don't hurt each other.

Okay guys, so I almost killed my poor goldies XP

I unplugged the filter on my last water change, and it turns out I forgot to plug it in again. I didn't notice until today. The water has been cloudy for the last few months, so I wasn't suspicious when it was going cloudy during the week, although I thought it looked worse than usual. I did a 50% water change and turned the fliter back on (it was still a bit damp thankfully; hopefully the cycle didn't crash).

I hope they'll all be okay qnq

I think my new plants and bubbler are the only things that kept them from running out of air.

Absolute minimum of 2.5 gallons, but at least 5 is generally best. If you can go 10 or bigger he'd love that as well. Some people keep their bettas in things like 55 gallon community tanks c:
Any filter suitable for the tank size is fine but bettas generally do well with sponge filters since bettas aren't normally the strongest swimmers with all that finnage, or weak HOB filters or baffled stronger ones. Make sure you get a heater as well c:
For sorority tanks we don't know much about them other than they generally don't work out very well long term and can be quiet tricky to get right.
