"I-I-I I don't know..." Stammered Birchfire, "Someone must've snuck in while Echochance was busy with Enterfoot, I was at the river trying to catch a fish when I heard all the commotion. Then I came in and tried to gather my kits when I found Ripplekit and Indigokit weren't anywhere to be found." She continued, "I'm a terrible mother." She scolded.
"Your not a terrible mother Birchfire." Soothed Echochance. "Nobody saw this coming, nobody could have prevented it."

"I'm a worse mother than you could ever be, I lost two to of my kits to Starclan." Shudderleaf mewed, pain in her eyes. "At least we don't think yours are dead." Shudderleaf added, flicking her ear to a leaf falling of a tree, which Dripkit batted. "Go back to the nursery, Dripkit." Shudderleaf meowed sternly, then more gently to Birchfire, "You will see them soon, I'm sure of it."

Birchfire nuzzled Scarletkit, "Oh, Shudderleaf, your not a terrible mother." She mewed. "Besides, you will se them again someday." she added. She turned to Echochance, "So how are we supposed to find them?"
"We will question Enter foot, if that fails, well. We may have to invade SummerMoon territory..." said Echochance grimly.

"Who will go on the patrol?" Shudderleaf mewed, sitting down. "Can I come?" Dripkit asked, beginning to bounce. "No, Dripkit!" Shudderleaf meowed sternly.

"Lets see, Articpast, Nightcling, Leopardpelt, Birchfire and myself, you may come if you wish Shudderleaf." mewed Echochance, nuzzling a straying kit away from the entrance. "You cannot come Dripkit, but you can help." Echochance said to Dripkit, then turning and winking at Shudderleaf. "You can go get Articpast and Nightcling, and tell them that I need to meet the outside the nursery." She smiled.

Dripkit's moth gaped open. "Wow! I get to help real warriors!" Dripkit ran to get the warriors while Shudderleaf stretched and mewed, "It wouldn't hurt. And I think Dripkit can take care of himself for a little. So I will come." As Articpast and Nightcling came to the nursery, Shudderleaf bounded quickly to the spot where Sandclaw was buried. She dipped her head in respect for the lost warrior and turned to join the patrol.

Echochance nodded and nuzzled Dripkit affectionately. "Nightcling, and Articpast, we going to search for Birchfire's missing kits, Shudderleaf, Birchfire, and Leopardpelt will also accompany."
Nightcling and Articpast nodded, Articpast leaned in and whispered, "Who is going to take care of the little bouncy one then.."
"I'll take care of Dripkit, hes smart and obedient, watch." Said Echochance turning towards Dripkit, "Hey, Dripkit!" She mewed playfully, "How would you like to spend the rest of the day with Cindertail!"

"That would be the best thing in the world!!" Dripkit mewed. Dripkit's call rang around the camp. "That's settled, so let's go. We should eat some fresh-kill before we leave, though." Shudderleaf figured. She padded across the clearing to the fresh-kill pile. She chose a small mouse so the others could choose something tastier.

Echochance nodded and called Cindertail over to watch Dripkit. She walked to the pile and selected a small, plump, mouse. The rest of the patrol selected some too and they set off. They wandered through the woods calling the names of the lost kits, and tiny mews came from a nearby tree.
