Soushi felt a little hurt when there was little to no physical contact from Sachiko, Unable to understand the concept that she might be mad at him, or that she simply no longer want to. He followed a little ways behind her towards the stall. Ironically he nearly lost her because she was little and he was so tall, Sure he could see over people but not through them, if she went into a large crowd that was it, she was lost to him forever.

He felt an unfamiliar need to protect when she was shoved, and almost egged her on, encouraged her to go after such a ruffian. And when she held herself back he felt himself straightened up, stand with his back straight to watch them leave, he saw them off around a corner then watched how the girl checked herself discretely.

Slowly, he leaned down and put a hand gingerly on her shoulder, prepared that she might shrug it off. Then he leaned in and spoke quietly against her ear "You should have hit him back..." he suggested rather unhelpfully then continued "Did he hurt you?" he asked quietly. Even though he was whispering his concern was voiced, if she was really injured from that he didn't particularly wish to continue, it was unfair and no fun. And who wanted to be dragged all over a festival if they were hurting?

Sachiko Kobayashi

"THE POPULAR"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Age: Seventeen years old | Human | Mood: Guilty, nervous | Currently: At the Hanami Festival

Soushi's voice against her ear sent shivers down her spine, but she refused to let it show.
Shrugging his hand away, she breezily batted her hand at him. "What are you talking about?" she said airily, determined to prevent Soushi from seeing that she was in pain. "Nothing hurts." She poked her tummy as if to show that she wasn't hurt, but that only made her double-back a little from the pain (she had poked a little too hard to accentuate her point). Surprisingly enough, she was able to hold a large bit of it in and merely grimaced, her eyes squeezing tight for just a moment before she opened them again, her eyes trained on the head in-front of her. "He didn't hurt me." She nodded, stating it firmly. "I'm just fine."
Well, that was one of the first lies that she told Soushi. She wasn't particularly proud of it, either, but she didn't want to seem like a baby, feeling pain from a rough shove. What if he thought that she was just holding him back, when they were clearly still wanting to go through with the games challenge? Nope, she wouldn't tell him anything. She'd just deal with it later when he wasn't looking.
"It's nice to have shelter over your heads, isn't it." she stated, glancing out at the pouring rain that was still continuing like no tomorrow. "The rain actually sounds really nice. Especially when you're working on something at home, and you're sitting by the window- yep, it's pretty relaxing. Oh, and it's also when you're in the coffee-shop; that's nice as well. Everyone comes and huddles in to escape the cold, and it makes us all seem like we're all in one big happy community, y'know?" Trying to change the conversation was Sachiko's way of getting over a lie that she made. This often resulted in endless rambling unless someone made her shut up. She really didn't like to lie; it always made her feel guilty afterwards- so she always tried to cover it up in some way or another. Talking about the weather was a weak attempt of changing the conversation, because it was pretty obvious that she was hiding something. However, sooner or later, she knew that she'd let the truth come out- maybe not right now, but it'd probably pop out soon enough. Holding in her guilt wasn't the best thing for her, as the longer she held it in, the louder and more rushed she'd blurt out the truth. "Speaking of the rain, I wonder who came up with the idiom, 'it's raining cats and dogs'. And speaking of coffee-shops, there's a really good one just a fifteen-minute walk from here. The servers are super helpful and friendly, and there's some nice-looking guys over there. The drinks are really good, and the pastries are to die for. If you've never been there before, you have to go. It's really, really good. Like, super good. People are just so nice there. It's great." Sachiko continued to ramble on, silently hoping that she could get herself to shut-up soon.

Soushi refrained from rolling his eyes, honestly she was suddenly acting different to how he'd initially thought of her, though he'd heard that human teenage girls could be quite unpredictable. So he allowed her, her little rant and ramble, trying his best to keep up with what she was saying so he could actually respond and make her feel less embarrassed. He'd hardly noticed the rain to be honest his coat was water proof and he'd only really known about it from the drops that his his face when they walked, he didn't like rain, he hated most waters.

He didn't much like coffee shops either, though they served tea and he really liked tea, coffee tended to just make him feel uncomfortably energetic. He wasn't the most active being, and preferred laying around when he had the time, pent up energy just made him frustrated. "I..you don't look like the type who drinks coffee." He replied with a slight frowning motion, mostly because he was stuck on something to say rather than being angry or sad about something.

"You...You don't look like you drink any hot things...hot chocolate maybe." He could picture that, on a cold day she'd come home and make herself a hot coco...or perhaps her grandparents or parents would, if she had parents, he couldn't remember if she had said that she lived with them or not.

He wasn't really sure what parents did, he'd never had none, so perhaps she did make her own hot coco. He'd thought on that long enough, it was silly really. "Or do you go for the cakes or something?" That was quite common, coffee shops usually had lots of sweets on offer and he actually liked a good cake or parfait now and then.

Age: Seventeen years old | Human | Mood: Sad, worried | Currently: At the Hanami Festival

"I like hot tea and hot chocolate," she said, tucking her hands inside of her trench-coat pockets. She placed a stray strand of hair behind her right ear as she stared at the ground, suddenly feeling a little colder than before. Her breath puffed out visible puffs of air as she breathed in and out via her mouth, before returning back to her nose again. "I also like the slices of apple pie they serve. The banana bread is my favourite, though." She hesitated, not sure if she should go and tell him the story. Deciding to out of pure "whatever", she moved up a little in the line. Her eyes were still staring down at the concrete, her boots tapping against each other as she relayed the story. "When I was younger, I used to visit this little bakery just a few blocks down from my house. It was a pretty small place; it could probably only fit thirty people at once. Even though it was small, and the physical appearance of it didn't look all that welcoming, the food that they created was just... amazing. You could watch them bake everything fresh; and people didn't even mind waiting an hour or so for their orders to be cooked- just watching the Chef's make it was like magic. It was... it was like with every single order that they made, the bigger the crowd would get that surrounded the area where you could watch them make the orders. And I remember that one time, I had ordered a banana bread- my Mom had told me that it was one of the best things that you could ever eat in your entire life- and so I ordered it, and watched them make it. When I finally got to taste it, I felt like I was... walking on air. And I know, that seems a little extreme, but it was honestly the best banana bread that I had ever eaten in my entire life. I just know that there won't be tastier banana bread than that." She paused, taking in a shaky breath before continuing on, her eyes now again trained on the back of the person's head that was in-front of her. "Then, one day, the chef who had created that banana bread passed away from old age. He just... died. And everything just seemed so surreal at the time, because I remember thinking, 'Oh, he's the king of banana bread- he's going to live forever and forever', which, of course, is a silly thought to think, because people eventually die, and I know it." She rubbed her stomach a little, still feeling a bit of the pain. "But it was different, because this Chef was my Mom's Dad- my Grandpa." She sighed, rubbing her eyes a little before continuing. "The guy who bakes the banana bread over at that coffee-shop now was one of my Grandpa's colleagues; he's the only one out here who knows how to make my Grandpa's bread almost perfectly. There's still something missing from it, I can taste it, but it's pretty darn good." She shrugged, trying to huddle into herself to warm up. "Anyways, that's my sad story of the day. Don't expect me to relay anymore for a good long while. I don't really like to be sad. It makes me feel slow and depressed and... eh. Totally not me."
She didn't dare look up at Soushi, afraid that she might cry from telling the story and re-living the memories of her and her Grandpa. It had been such a sad day back then, and she was scared that she'd lose her other three grand-parents. However, she did make it clear in her mind that yes, people die- and although it's not preferred, it's something that happens in life, and people just have to move on. It was tough for her to think about, certainly- and it was during these times that she wondered: what if people could live forever? What would the place be like then? But then, of course, she knew that she wasn't some sort of deity or immortal being- how could it happen?

As she relayed her tragic little tale, Soushi found himself more curious than miserable, and his most heartfelt reaction was but a semblance of sadness, his brows furrowed and knitted together and his nibbled his lip, attempting to come up with something he could do to comfort her. But there was nothing, he didn't know what the loss of a loved one was because he'd never loved anyone.

He thought about trying to relate, but he had no back story for himself, he simply was, simply existent one day and if the human authorities began to sniff him out when he stole something, he fled and simply existed somewhere else for a while. He'd never even made a friend before, besides except for Sachiko, but he wouldn't say friend after a few hours of knowing her, she was more like an acquaintance, there was the possibility of something more, but for now she was someone he knew the name of.

"I...I'm Sorry." he decided that was the best he could do in the end. He was curious and wanted to discuss this bread recipe, but at the same time he didn't want to talk about something that was clearly painful for her. In case she got mad and he lost the only imitation of a friend he'd ever had before.

"It sucks when people die." He murmured, he did know that he didn't like the fact that humans died, he didn't like being around death and would steer clear of hospitals when he could. But it had to happen, for balance or something stupid and because there were deity's of death and all sorts of things.
But that didn't mean he had to like it. He was quite scared that one day he would no longer be needed, -not that he was now- and something would happen to him, like he'd lose his power, become a real human, or he might just disappear one day and leave behind an empty house full of phones and games consoles.

He felt he should apologize some more, but it felt so hollow, like it was wrong to say that because he could never relate. It felt dirty on his tongue "Do...Do you believe in any form of afterlife?" He asked, simply out of curiosity.

Sachiko shrugged; trying to act indifferent. "Thanks," she murmured, moving up a little in the line. "It happened when I was like eight years old, so it was quite a bit ago." She sighed, disliking the fact that she had brought up those sad memories. She really didn't want to- it just came out in that manner. "Sorry about bringing up such a sad topic."
She nodded her head, agreeing with him. "Yep. It really does." She sighed once more, remembering when her grand-mother recently passed away from that terrible car accident... she shivered a little, snuggling more into her jacket as she re-called her last conversation with her Grandma. It was one held with advice, and honest words. Sachiko knew that she'd never forget it for the rest of her life. Besides, going to the festival today just made her think of her Grandma, for her Grandma so loved festivals like these. It was hard being her without here, of course, but Sachiko knew that her Grandma would have liked her to have a good time here instead of moping about. After-all, wasn't that her exact mindset when she had first arrived here? She'd do her absolute best to keep it that way.
Sachiko looked up at the tented roof once Soushi relayed his question out-loud to her. "Yeah... yeah, I do." she said, and this time her eyes landed on his for the first time since the beginning of the shooting game. She cocked her head sideways like a puppy would. "Don't you?" She asked it like it was something that someone just had to believe in- there were no pauses, a sense of hesitation- it was just something that someone believed in automatically, like an autonomic response in a way. She believed in the after-life so much that she believed that when she would die one day, that she'd be able to re-incarnate into another being, or into an animal or a plant or something- because dying and just disappearing from the world, as if you being there was just a dream? that didn't sit well with her at-all, and therefore she just had to believe in the after-life.
But, of course, she wouldn't relay all of her thoughts on it towards Soushi unless he asked, but she felt like she'd be exposing a part of her to him that she never shared with anyone else before- and was she willing to do that with him, a guy she had only just met? She sighed once more, her eyes piercing into his before falling back to the ground. She wouldn't be offended if he didn't believe in the after-life- after-all, everyone had their own opinions. She couldn't force him to believe in something that he didn't want to believe in. It was all a matter or choice sometimes, and if he didn't want to believe, then, he just would not believe.

        Sachiko. Death is hard.

Soushi didn't spend much time pondering his own demise, it wasn't healthy. But she made him this once. He knew there was deities, spirits and Gods who operate in death, it made sense there was some kind of after life. "I do believe there is something." He replied "I don't know what."

He didn't know if that occurred to him, if he got an after life. He'd come from nothing and it was highly likely that he went back to nothing when he had done what he needed to. Creatures who made rain would always be able to make rain, but what happened to him when he could no longer look after stolen and lost things, or he was simply forgotten about.

He shook his head, clearing it of unhelpful thoughts but a remotely sad look was still present in his eyes "I...I hope it's something nice." He almost whispered, but intended for Sachiko to hear him. Humans weren't all bad, Sachiko and her family seemed nice enough to him, and he thought that they deserved some kind of paradise when they came to die. He gave and audible swallow and shifted his eyes to the stall infront of them, this time he was the one avoiding eye contact. For the first time in his life he needed a hug, but once again, he didn't know that, and could only stand awkwardly to the side of his new friend and look ahead at those before him who were attempting the game. Perhaps he would put it down to the dismal subject they were talking about.

He wondered if this is how human's felt, or if someone close to you being dead was much more painful than that.

Sachiko Kobayashi

"THE POPULAR"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Age: Seventeen years old | Human | Mood: Caring | Currently: At the Hanami Festival

Sachiko nodded, understanding his thoughts. "I understand," she said, moving up a little in the line once more. By now, they were about half-way through the line, give-or-take. "I mean, I can imagine an after-life taking form by returning back down to the Earth as a human or something else... but that's my belief. It's perfectly acceptable for you to not know what kind of 'something' there is after death. I know plenty of people who are on the same boat as you, so there's nothing to judge." She paused, realizing what she had just said. "I'm definitely not saying that if you were the only person who didn't have thoughts about what there was after death that I'd judge- but you get what I mean." She was positive that he'd understand what she was saying; he seemed like a smart guy.
The music playing in the background sounded so happy and joyous compared to their current conversation- it was quite the difference, really. One was about happiness, and the other was about remorse and sadness. What a way to have a lovely time at a festival, eh? Sachiko was thinking of changing the topic when her ears pricked up on what Soushi was saying next. She hardly picked it up; a second later, she probably would have missed it. His voice was incredibly soft; nearly a whisper that she had to practically lean in to hear what he had fully said. It was during this time that she looked up at him once more, and her eyes softened at his facial expression.
This time, he was avoiding looking at her, and it seemed like he was trying to stop a certain emotion from showing- however, it was clearly evident in Sachiko's head that Soushi was trying to hold back some form of sadness; a bit of hope that just disappeared. She didn't know exactly how to describe how he might be feeling, but she knew what he was probably thinking about. He looked almost as if he was in pain, and he was trying to hold back a shaky breath. Sure, his attitude spoke levels on his toughness, but right now, the guy looked like he needed a hug: he looked so sad and... lonely? Was that what he looked like? Sachiko wasn't sure, but with whatever emotion that he was currently feeling, Sachiko knew that there was one thing in the world that he probably needed at the moment: a hug.
    And hug him she did.
She had only stepped forward once, since they were already pretty close to each other already. With one single lift of her skinny arms, she engulfed him in a soft but reassuring hug. She notice that, unlike with his hands, his body was warmer. Was it maybe just because of his jacket? Sachiko was honestly not sure, but for some odd reason, she enjoyed his body heat at that given moment. Soushi seriously did look like he needed a hug- he looked so pained and choked up- that her heart just gave in and wanted to make it all go away. If there was anything that Sachiko could do, it was being a caring person. Her heart always ached in any type of sad situation, and this situation was just one of them. "I'm sorry." she whispered, unsure if he'd be able to hear her. She was standing on her tippy-toes, but, even then, she couldn't reach his ear. More like the top of his shoulder, if anything. She was even wearing her heeled boots! Apparently, that height of hers had placed her at a major disadvantage right now. "I didn't mean to bring up such a sad topic." She gave him a light squeeze, still holding on. She was unsure of when to let go, since Soushi was just standing there at the moment- would he hug her back, or...? Eh, she really didn't know. Was the hug too forward; too abrupt? If so, she really didn't want to deal with another one of his confused looks. She felt like that last one of his was enough to last a lifetime.
To a passerby, they would automatically assume that Sachiko and Soushi were a couple- or maybe just really, really, really close friends. To the people behind them in the line, they were probably staring. But, what probably stood out was their height difference: Sachiko probably looked like a small child hugging her older brother, or something! The thought made her laugh, and she had to suppress her laugh hard so that Soushi wouldn't think that she was making fun of him for trying to hold in his emotions.
As she continued to hug him, she could feel the pain slipping in once again on her stomach. Something was poking at her from his jacket, but she didn't want to ask what it was. Probably his phone, or something. She wanted to rub her stomach to make it feel a little better, but she wasn't able to at the given moment. She'd deal with it later, and she decided to just tough it out like the tough girl that she could be. Right now, Soushi needed her attention- and her attention she'd give.

Sachiko. Sorry my post isn't very good.

Soshi froze immediately, his arms by his side rigidly as his head attempted to comprehend what was going on when he was hugged. "S-Sachiko!" he squeaked, more out of alarm than wanting her to release him or embarrassment. The empty feeling in his chest began to ebb the longer she held on to him and he allowed it simply. It was nice to be hugged, to be embraced in such a way. Her body felt warm when she was this close to him, the heat was comforting though, and he was glad of it.

With a great amount of hesitance, his hands slowly slid up along the smaller girl's back. He had to stoop a little bit, she was quite a bit shorter than him and it suddenly dawned on him just how much so, it was rather adorable to him though. He pulled her close, flush against his form and held her tight for a small while, not tight enough to choke the air from her lungs or harm her stomach more, but enough to let her know he appreciated it. Hugs, he discovered, were things that were in fact very good. They were warm and emotional, but simple, not like a kiss or other public displays of affection. Hugs were platonic but strangely romantic and special, and he liked them.

His eyes glanced around quietly, aware people were looking but unable to care that much. He'd never been comforted by anyone else, and this felt good, he didn't really want her to let go. Of course he knew she would eventually, but it was nice for now. "Don't sound so sorry." he said finally, murmuring into her ear, feeling the need to rest his head on her shoulder but refraining from doing so. "It's a thing that shouldn't be avoided...sometimes it's nice just to get it off your chest." His lips then curled upwards into a slight grin "I wouldn't bring it up with every boy you meet though." he chuckled and drew back, but didn't release her fully. Looking down into her eyes with a crooked little grin he spoke again, in a hushed tone "Thanks..."

Sachiko would have pulled away immediately if Soushi's voice sounded more intense and abrupt; but when he had said her name in that tone of voice, she couldn't help but emit a soft giggle as she continued to hug him. She had a feeling that he was probably more than surprised at her forwardness, but she didn't think that he thought of it as weird or anything, so that was definitely good. She just felt that personally, hugs had the ability to make things at-least a little better, and it seemed to work, as Soushi slowly and hesitantly placed his arms around her. She could tell that he had to bend his body down a little more, because of their height difference, and the thought made her smile of what a person just watching them would see: again, the image of a small child and an older brother slipped into her mind. But did she really want to imagine Soushi as a brother? She didn't think that she'd be able to have a brother as good-looking as him; her affections towards him would be all over the place. Nah, maybe it was just better to think of it as a short student and a tall student. That suited them much more, she felt.
As he hugged her, Sachiko noticed that he wasn't hugging her all too tight- and she had a feeling that he really didn't believe her when she had said that she wasn't in pain at all. With that thought in mind, she smiled a little more at his conservativeness, and her small fingertips nestled themselves even more so on his big jacket. He was nice to hug; she had to admit. He had the perfect frame to do so- despite his skinny body and tall self, he had the ability to just wrap her up and allow her to forget about other things for a while. Like, why was she even hugging him in the first place...? Because it felt nice and she really wanted to do it? Nah, she did it because it looked like he needed a hug. Sachiko could already feel herself caring a lot about the guy, and made her heart swell up in ways that she never imagined. She didn't know if she was developing some sort of "blooming crush" for him, but, time would be the judge for that.
As soon as he murmured some words to her, Sachiko felt her shiver in response. What was it about people whispering in your ear? It just always made you feel more vulnerable and more... exposed to the person? She didn't know exactly how to explain it, but it happened with every single person who whispered in her ear, whether it be a boy or a girl. It was odd. Maybe it was because people didn't whisper in other's ears too often. Yeah, that was probably it.
She nodded at what he said, knowing that he probably felt her nod. She agreed; it was nice to let things come out because you weren't bottling it up anymore. It wasn't very good to bottle things up, she thought, because if a time came where you were angry or upset, you could easily explode and just go haywire in-front of someone who probably didn't even cause that pain to you. Bottling up emotions just wasn't something that Sachiko liked to do, since she felt like she could be a ticking time bomb and just explode whenever, so that was why she always told off people or got into arguments with them if there was ever a problem. She'd rather just get it over with, because she'd be boiling over it or ranting about it to her friends if she didn't do so. This was odd, because she had just let that boy go, the one who had shoved her, but she decided that she simply was just not in the mood to argue with him. If she found him later, though, she'd definitely give him a good talking to. That'd show him to go shove girls, now, wouldn't it? Since Sachiko doesn't like to bottle up her feelings and emotions, people tend to call her "feisty" and "easily annoyed". She just wasn't afraid of others, even if they were six feet tall and had bulky muscles and tattoos- she'd still call him off if he did something to offend her. Then, of course, if the guy were to actually try and do something to her, she'd kick him where the stars don't shine, or scream like a banshee. If neither of those options worked, she'd probably just run to the nearest police station (she's quite the fast runner). If a girl were to be rude to her, she'd definitely call her off as well. It worked the same way; she just didn't like to be treated so unfairly and unjust. It just wasn't right.
Sachiko laughed at his comment, an adorable smile gracing her features. "Thanks for the advice," she laughed, looking up at him with her dark brown eyes as he drew back a little. She cocked her head, wondering if she had heard him right. Had he thanked her? Well, wasn't that nice! Her smile grew larger so that her teeth showed. "You're very welcome. I'm always open for hugs." She shrugged, not knowing if that sounded odd or not- but it as true; Sachiko did love hugs. She found them to be comforting and warm and affectionate: three things out of many that she loved.
She was still in his arms, and her arms were still around his middle- but they were more loose now, ready to let go if he wanted her to. She looked off to the side, where the line was moving steadily from this point on like an inch-worm. Using one of her hands to poke at him, she asked, "Could you do me a favour and see what's causing the hold-up?" Obviously, she couldn't see over everyone's heads, and it was plainly obvious that Soushi had the ability to see so. "I'm too much of a shortie to help." she pouted, which made her look even more adorable.
It was odd; simply after hugging Soushi did Sachiko feel more... happier? She felt much more content; that was the word. Like, nothing could go wrong she was around him. Cheesy to think, right?
