he girl stood from the dew-soaked balcony, gazing at the pearly castle beyond the shambles of the village in the morning light. It had been nearly an hour since Killian's arrest. Aoife was restless and irritated with her vulnerability. She hadn't attended Killian's wild night out, and this was the consequence of not keeping an eye on him. Lord only knows what he did to get him arrested by the King's forty best men. She knew in her heart that it was bad, though. wingswashereShe hadn't slept much the during the fading night, drawn to relive the events of her life in her mind's eye. Being back in Asteria, being stuck on dry land even, did that to her. The sea was her home, regardless of her short stay there. She forgot the baggage and history she had left in Asteria when she was being lulled by roaring waves. On those waves, she found what she had been searching for when she left Asteria: peace.
wingswashereAoife, better known as the Queen of Thieves, walked into the small apartment almost silently, her mind already absorbing the past need to be quiet, to go unnoticed. Her nerves were on edge being back in this place. Her place, though she left it a year ago. Well, half her place. By the looks of it, Vincent still lived here during the day. The nightly occupation he had held when she left was apparently still his. The Assassin of Asteria, her best friend. Aoife barely touched the hilt of a knife stuck in a table. His reputation had grown quite a bit since their last meeting. But then again, hadn't hers? The Queen of Thieves teamed with the Captain of the Siren's Wrath; that news had gone around quickly.
wingswashere The girl sat heavily at the small round table in the center of the room. Her head turned to one side as she noticed the worn deck of cards. Her cards. A memory flashed. Those cards were one of her first good steals, taken right from the pocket of a highly esteemed knight in the King's court. She flipped through them, shuffled them, and began playing a game Vincent had taught her years ago. Her heart skipped a beat when she heard a board just outside the door barely creak. She returned her focus to the cards. The smallest of smiles brushed past her lips as she felt bitter steel against her throat. And then she heard his voice.
wingswashereTears sprung to her eyes as she laid her eyes on the tall, dark figure of the man. Suddenly, a year felt like a millennium without him by her side. Her eyes begged forgiveness as they met the blue eyes that whispered of silver. Begged for forgiveness and spoke of her foolishness for leaving in the first place. She opened her mouth to say something to her friend, to her brother, but no words came for a long while as she fought to find them. She knew what he wanted. He didn't want to hear apologizes. He wanted the truth. "I need your help, Vincent," she said quietly, "I'm going to break into the castle. I need you."
