Introduction and the Highborn

Image

A new type of turmoil has dawned on the land of Etrium. It is ruled by a cruel man by the name of Haveron Redwing, along with his foul breed: a twisted kind of human. They are mutated versions of human, some with a surplus of strength or a great amount of intelligence. They call their race "Highborn," for their excelling skills, but the majority of other races simply call them "the mutants."

The Rebellion and Civil War

Image
The cruelty of the Ruler has sparked quite the rebellion in Etrium. All races, ranging from humans to elves to orcs have joined the cause, and any occupation from archers to magic-wielders have as well. However, some remain loyal to their Ruler and his Court. They believe that the land is better off with strict laws and harsh punishments...not to mention racial inequality.

Indeed, the Highborn think of most other races besides their "weaker" kinsman, the humans, to be inferior and should not be in their country. Any that are have higher taxes, a stunted food supply, and must live in wretched slums.

Races and Occupations

Here will be listed (playable) races and occupations. If there is another race or occupation you would like to see, simply ask me on this thread or via PM with a link to a page on said race (to identify its authenticity in folklore, culture, etc.). (Not necessary for occupations.)

Races

Highborn - The Highborn are the primary race of modern Etrium. They come in all shapes and sizes, and have the look of a normal human with one of several features: exceeding strength (large muscles), intelligence (no way to identify), beauty (appearance), or speed (leanness). Most are wealthy and live in luxury, and little to no Highborn are on the side of the rebels.

Human - Humans are second only to the Highborn. This means that they are to receive almost as much respect as the Highborn, have more authority than other inferior races, and usually live comfortably. Some join the rebels, others stay with the Highborn.

*Elf - The elf comes in various looks and statures. Some are muscular and built for hand-to-hand combat, while others are talented archers. They can be identified by their large, pointed ears and "unnatural" eyes. They sometimes live comfortably and usually are on the side of the rebels.

*Orc - Orcs are a large, bulky race usually built for combat. They can be identified by their green- or brown-hued skin, pointed ears, height, and prominent bottom fangs. Rarely do they live comfortably, usually having to struggle to get by, and can be found mostly in rebel camps. There is a slim chance, however, that they will stay indifferent to the civil war.

Shape-Shifter - Shape-shifters are basically humans who have the supernatural ability to transform into a series of different animals. However, there is always one that is more powerful than the others; it is used most often. This race can be identified by a very faint blue glow that surrounds their bodies and is easily seen in the daytime. They are sometimes comfortably living, but sometimes struggling. They're found on both sides of the war and can be indifferent.

*Angel - Angels are beings that are magical and sometimes holy in appearance and state of mind. They are talented in the arcane (magical) arts, and can be easily identified by the large wings sprouting from their back. These wings are either white or black, depending if the angel is pure or of dark heritage. They have no need for currency, and therefore live nicely. They are usually indifferent, but can be on either side.

Vampire - Vampires are any race (excluding angels, dragons, shape-shifters, unicorns, horses and werewolves) that have contracted vampirism. They have the ability to use telekinesis to read another's thoughts, but only at night. A being with this disease can be identified by their pallid skin and eyes; their sharp, oversized canine teeth are a giveaway as well. Their living style and position in the war varies with what basic race they are.

Werewolf - Like vampires, werewolves can be any race (excluding angels, dragons, shape-shifters, unicorns, horses, and vampires) that have contracted lycanthropy. In standard form, a werewolf can be hard to identify unless you look closely at his or her teeth. They are usually sharper and more jagged than others' without the disease. Their living style and position in the war varies with what basic race they are.

Dragon - Dragons are powerful, large reptiles whose appearances vary. Usually domesticated and ridden into war, they do not have a choice of which side they are on. They can speak and are loyal to their masters.

Unicorn - Unicorns are graceful, goat- or horse-like animals with potent magic that have appearances that vary. They can be found wild and domesticated; the ones in captivity are ridden into battle like dragons. They also share the quality dragons do in what side they are on. They can speak only telepathically (not to be mistaken with telekinesis) and are loyal only to the one who captures them.

Horse - Horses are the main type of transportation in Etrium. They draw carriages, carry heavy loads, and carry travelers to other places in a quicker manner than on foot. Most are domesticated, though rarely one may find a wild one. They are sometimes ridden into war, but are usually traded in for unicorns, which are faster and more agile. Horses cannot speak and their loyalties vary depending on the individual.

*Races marked with an asterisk are often servants to Highborn or wealthy human nobles.

Occupations

Warrior - Warriors are bold, brave men and women who are usually on the front lines of battle. Their strong suits are strength, offense/defense, and experience. Any race can be classified as a warrior, but orcs, humans, and Highborn are the most common. Those that are warriors are sometimes not associated with the war efforts or law.

Guard - Guards are steady, hardy people that defend camps, cities, and villages. It's uncommon to see a guard in battle, as they excel in defense and archery most of the time. Any race is qualified to be a guard, though one can usually find a human or Highborn as such. Those who are guards always have something to do with the war and, most commonly, the law.

Trainee - Trainees are aspiring warriors or guards. They are still learning to use a blade correctly, so are kept from battles. Before becoming a warrior, trainees are to win a scrap with a large wild beast of some kind (not dragons). Before becoming a guard, trainees must find and kill a threatening animal with a bow and arrows. Any race can apply for this, and any who are can only be seen helping the war efforts and/or law.

Scout - Scouts are the ones who scour the land for any kind of trouble. They are talented in the aspects of archery and stealth. Elves are usually found as this, though any race is welcome to apply. They are associated only in the war efforts.

Archer - Archers are agile people who stay back behind the warriors and shoot arrows at the opposing side. If a talented archer, one can even shoot flaming arrows. Anyone is welcome, but elves usually fill this occupation. One does not need to have anything to do with the war or law to be one.

Blacksmith and Fletcher - Blacksmiths are the ones who make weapons and armor. Orcs and humans are usually blacksmiths. Fletchers are those who craft bows and arrows, usually a human or elf.

Alchemist - Alchemists are very important, indeed, as they create potions to heal the sick or injured and give strength to the tired. They are very talented at what they do, and are very intelligent as well. Highborn, angels, and elves are usually alchemists.

Healer - Healers can be seen in war camps and on the battlefield, treating the injured with their exceptional skill in healing magic. This spot is most commonly filled by angels that do help with mortal affairs, but any can apply. One that is a healer can usually only be a priest or on the battlefield.

Priest - Priests are healers who stay in the temples, all of which are devoted to Etrius, the founder of Etrium. They are skilled at their magic and play as doctors along with religious leaders. Angels and humans are most commonly found as priests. They are not involved with the war.

Spell-Sword - Spell-swords are men and women talented in the art of having a spell in one hand and a weapon in the other. They are actively on the battlefield and can prove to be a force to be reckoned with. Angels usually occupy all spaces for spell-swords in the war, though anyone with magical talent can try to apply. If a spell-sword one does not have to be involved with the war.

Wizard - Wizards are magic-users that have pure intentions. They only use their abilities for good, and are talented in healing magic; they even rival healers and priests. However, wizards are usually elderly due to the fact that they must spend years meditating and practicing their art. Any race can be a wizard, but angels and humans are most common.

Mage - Mages are those who can harness some of the most powerful magic, using it for whatever purpose they see fit; therefore, the fact if they are good or bad varies with that particular mage. Though they are talented in magic, they do not tend to enroll with the rebels or Highborn. They seem to like seclusion so they can understand and perfect their art.

Necromancer - Necromancers dabble purely in the dark magic of reanimating dead things. Very rarely will you see a non-hostile or good necromancer. They live in small groups of three to six in secluded regions of Etrium.

Warlock - Warlocks are extremely powerful, yet extremely evil, people who use any kind of dark magic. They only seek power in this world, and pose a large threat to any who dare cross their path. They are only male.

Witch - Witches are the female equivalent of warlocks. They are nasty women with dark magic and potions, and show no mercy to anyone they meet with--unless, of course, that someone is another witch. Witches and warlocks are both battling for power, so a fight between the two dark spell-users is common.

Thief - Thieves are cunning individuals who seek fortune and wealth via stealing valuables and coin. Usually unseen, they can easily take things from another's pocket, abode, or any storage container. They almost never get involved with warfare.

Bandit - There is a noticeable difference between a bandit and a thief. A thief does not get his or her hands dirty when stealing, but a bandit does. Oh yes, s/he usually kills to get what s/he wants if the other does not cooperate. Bandits usually work in small groups to rob traveling merchants or any traveler period.

Assassin - Assassins are stealthy, deadly people who are paid a large sum of coin to murder someone, unnoticed until after the body is cold and stiff. They are a rare sight, and should not be tampered with if come across.

Merchant - Merchants are people who sell goods across the country. They have anything, ranging from jewelry to weaponry. They usually set up shop outside a large city under a fairly large tent.

Carriage Driver - Carriage drivers are paid to transport a person or a group of people across the land on a variety of horse-drawn vehicles, ranging from carts to massive carriages. Only humans or Highborn are permitted to take up this occupation.

Shopkeeper, Farmer, and Laborer/Servant - Shopkeepers own stores where one can buy goods from them in large cities. Farmers can be found anywhere across Etrium, near villages and cities or out in the open countryside. Laborers work for a small amount of currency and usually live under the roof of those they work for; they are usually referred to as slaves or servants.

*Occupations or races that are striked are no longer available to play as because:
    • There are too many of them and other occupations/races must be fulfilled
    • People are misusing them (power-playing mainly)
    • They have been wiped out (extremely unlikely to happen)

Laws and Role-Playing Rules

Here you will find the laws of Redwing and his Court, and the role-playing rules. (Laws may be broken, rules may not.)

Image

*Laws of Ruler Haveron Redwing

1. The Highborn are superior in Etrium. Anyone who defies this will lose his head.

2. Do not help these rebels. If we discover your treachery, we will mount your head on a spike.

3. There shall be no sightings of elves, orcs, werewolves, vampires, or angels in the cities or villages. If one is seen, and does not have an owner, it will be executed.

4. In no way, shape, or form may a shape-shifter set foot in the cities. They will be killed where they stand. (Does not go for villages.)

5. No stealing. If you are caught in the act, you will be sentenced to life rotting in prison.

6. For murder one shall pay with a lifetime in prison or his blood (pending on the race of the victim).

7. Commoners cannot own a unicorn or dragon. If this law is broken, one shall pay a large fine (five hundred [500] coins for a unicorn, one thousand [1000] for a dragon), or a sentence of ten (unicorn) to fifteen (dragon) years.

8. No other gods shall be worshipped other than Etrius, the founder of our proud country. If proof is found of other gods being worshipped, the one persecuted shall spend fifteen years minimum in prison.

9. Haveron Redwing's word is law.

*breakable

Rules of the Role-Play

1. Please be realistic. This rule covers realism in the colors of your characters, and the aspect of god-modding. Yes, your character may be a powerful warlock, but he is not all-mighty. Every character has its weakness. I also want to point out that I do not want to see a neon pink dragon and blue unicorn. Please just stick with the descriptions.

2. This role-play isn't literate or even semi-literate (hence that the thread is not present in the semi-lit. - lit. section of CS), but I expect you to write at least one well-written sentence. Please have decent grammar and spelling, as well.

3. All of Tess' rules apply. This is a given. If you need a refresher, look here.

4. Ask permission from someone before you seriously injure or kill their character. Then, before you do so, please let me know that you have permission by sending me a PM.

5. Spouses/mates and pregnancies are allowed, but remember Tess' rule about it. I would really like to keep this role-play, and I'm sure others would as well.

6. I will allow minor cursing. The worst thing I will allow is the word "b****," but is must be starred out (vowels or fully, it does not matter). However, if you are uncomfortable with this, please PM me with your concerns! I will change it immediately; I don't want this role-play upset you in any way.

7. You can make as many characters as you wish, as long as you can keep up with them.

8. Do not role-play someone else's character. That's just...rude.

9. Don't make massive plot twists/events happen without getting my permission. Just send me a PM with your idea and I'll tell you if, and when, we can make it happen in the role-play.

10. If you have any further concerns, contact me. c:

My Forms

Here you will find my (wintertide.'s) character forms. I hope anything that isn't clear about the form is clarified with mine.

|| Radras ||

"My Name Is...
...Radras. It is nice to be your acquaintance."

"I Am...
...female. I hope it is obvious."

"I Am...
...twenty four years old. Well, that is the age I look. In reality, I am around two hundred. I will soon explain."

"I Am An...
...elf. A wood elf, to be exact. However, I have a...disease. Quite some time ago I contracted vampirism. That explains my advanced age and fresh appearance."

"My Occupation Is...
...assassin. Yes, I kill for a living. I am much friendlier than others of my occupation, I assure you."

---

"Others Describe Me As...
...friendly. I have many other traits, but you would most likely have to befriend me to learn them."

"I Look Like...
...myself. I am sure I'm in plain sight."
This picture is fairly large, therefore here is a link to her appearance.

"My Past Is...
...unimportant. Please, let's move on."

"My Talent Is...
...magic-wielding. I am also a specialized killer."

"I Live...
...in a small shack, nestled somewhere in the woods. I shall not give away its location."

"If I am Fighting in the War, My Rank Is...
...nothing. I am not involved in this war."

---

"I am in Love With...
...no one."

"I am Married To...
...no one. I am single."

"My Child(ren) Is/Are...
...nonexistent. I have no children."

"My Past Loves Are...
...personal."

---

"My Most Commonly Used Weapon/Spell Is...
...Silent Killer. This spell kills someone in a few minutes, giving me enough time to evacuate the area, and is painless. It comes in handy, for certain."

"My Main Attire Is...
...a set of black leather armor that sticks close to my skin, with a matching hood--a mask attached--and gloves. It helps me blend into the shadows and protects me rather well."

"My Hobby Is...
...killing. You would be surprised how many people will pay to have someone murdered."

"One Can Find Me...
...strolling through the forests or murdering someone in a small village or even a large city."

---

"I Might Need to Mention Something Else...
...perhaps the fact I break two very severe laws on a regular basis? I am an elf, sneaking into cities and villages, and murdering others--Highborn included. Impressive, hmm?"

|| Claventus || Belfus ||

"My Name Is...
...Claventus Belfus. If you need an expert in magic, I am the man you need to see. Now, what do you seek?"

"I Am...
...male. Obviously."

"I Am...
...forty two years old. Why are you so interested?"

"I Am A...
...human. Simple, really."

"My Occupation Is...
...a special type of wizardry: I am a mage. Uncommon are we, for certain. I cannot recall ever meeting another like me."

---

"Others Describe Me As...
...unsociable... Idiots! Not at all am I unsociable! I simply like my peace. Magic is a very hard thing to master!"

"I Look Like...
...how you see me. Or do I? Haha, you can never trust the looks of one who is ideal in magic."
This picture is fairly large, therefore here is a link to his appearance.

"My Past Is...
...nothing that should concern you. Becoming nosy, aren't we?"

"My Talent Is...
...anything dealing with the arcane arts."

"I Live...
...in a place that may seem cliché of a mage: in the ruins of a stone castle, secluded in the mountainous regions of Etrium. I enjoy the solitude."

"If I am Fighting in the War, My Rank Is...
...nothing! I am not involved."

---

"I am in Love With...
...no one. I barely ever look at another's face, as very rarely do I come from my home or does one find my home."

"I am Married To...
...no one."

"My Child(ren) Is/Are...
...no longer around. No, they are not dead--not that I know of--but I have not had any contact with them for years."

"My Past Loves Are...
...nothing you should be looking into, I assure you."

---

"My Most Commonly Used Weapon/Spell Is...
...none! I cannot choose! There are just too many powerful, awe-inspiring spells to have a most favored..."

"My Main Attire Is...
...a simple black, hooded robe with red lining. I needn't any other style of clothing."

"My Hobby Is...
...training and meditating on magic. That is how I spend my time, so I suggest you do not bother me."

"One Can Find Me...
...in the mountainous regions of Etrium, you dunderhead! How many times must I say so?"

---

"I Might Need to Mention Something Else...
...maybe the fact that I am not exactly pure, but not exactly evil? Indeed, I can do good things, but I also can do...dark things. That is why I call myself a mage, because I am indifferent. If I was good I'd be a wizard, if I was evil I'd be a warlock.
"I may also want to mention the fact that I 'illegally' own a dragon. You may have noticed him by now."

|| Nevith ||

"My Name Is...
...Nevith. Quake in fear of my power!"

"I Am...
...male. If you dare call me otherwise, you shall exist no more."

"I Am...
...an age that has been lost within the folds of time itself. Dragons' lives are indefinite; therefore most, like myself, do not keep track of our age."

"I Am A...
...dragon. Has it not been made obvious?"

"My Occupation Is...
...to serve Master Claventus. Indeed, he is my one and only master, and gives more meaning to my life than what it was before."

---

"Others Describe Me As...
...harsh and scornful, for my stinging words lash across one's emotions, opening mental wounds that bleed tears! ...I must agree with this assumption."

"I Look Like...
...a beast that, if you see once with your mortal eyes whilst awake, you will see in your nightmares when they close."
This picture is fairly large, therefore here is a link to his appearance.

"My Past Is...
...irrelevant! A measly thing such as yourself is in no place to know of how I have lived my life."

"My Talent Is...
...protecting the Master's living area, of course. You dare set foot near it, you will be torn to shreds or burned beyond recognition."

"I Live...
...where the Master lives. I am certain he has told you already."

"If I am Fighting in the War, My Rank Is...
...nothing. I have no interest in petty mortal affairs."

---

"I am in Love With...
...no one. Love is a pointless thing."

"I am Married To...
...no one. I also do not recall a time when there was a wedding ceremony for two dragons."

"My Child(ren) Is/Are...
...lost in time, like my age. I haven't seen those little pests in centuries."

"My Past Loves Are...
...once again, irrelevant."

---

"My Most Commonly Used Weapon/Spell Is...
...my frost and fire breath, along with my fangs and razors (claws)."

"My Main Attire Is...
...my scales. Dragons do not wear clothing..."

"My Hobby Is...
...protecting the Master's fortress, or wreaking mass destruction on neighboring areas; but that is only if I have not made a kill in a prolonged length of time."

"One Can Find Me...
...in the mountainous areas, you fool!"

...perhaps the fact that I serve no one other than the Master? If you dare place your boots on my scales to ride or tame me, you are in for quite the bitter and gruesome demise."

Additional Information and Questions

Here will be posted some information that may need clarified. Any questions asked will also be posted and answered here (the asker of the question will remain anonymous).

Clarifying Information

    • The province of Skyrim is a neighboring area. However, no Nords, Bretons, Khajiit, or any other race (excepting orcs and wood elves) can be seen in Etrium (and Etrium's races are not in Skyrim, or any other province of Tamriel for that matter). Currently Redwing is not exactly friends with the head governors of Tamriel, and therefore his country is blocked off from any country of Tamriel.

    • Dragons can only breathe fire, frost, and smoke. Fire and frost are to do damage, but smoke it used to make an escape, as it blinds the enemy.

    • Dragons have been native to Etrium for as long as anyone can remember. Of course, these dragons are free of the grip of Alduin, but do not think for an instant they are easy to tame. They are as fiery as the dragons now flying about in the skies of Skyrim, and only the strongest of men can tame one.

    • Angels, dark or pure, have hollow bones (all for the sake of the ability to fly) and are therefore weakened, as the hollowness of their bones proves as their soft spot. The most common casualty an angel will have is a broken bone, maybe even so far as a crushed bone--enemies will take notice and advantage of this. Therefore, angels stick to aerial combat where they are out of the reach of most weapons.

    • Werewolves can transform on command. However, they must transform when a full moon marks the night sky. They cannot stop it from happening.

    • When transformed, werewolves have an insatiable bloodlust until an hour has passed, when their bodies convert back into their regular form. During this time, they cannot control themselves as they kill and consume pounds of flesh and gallons of blood.

    • Werewolves, when transformed, are sensitive to silver. However, silver is very rare in Etrium. Most of the land's silver is transported from other countries. Werewolves are also sensitive to wolfbane, an flowering herb that is somewhat more common than silver and less expensive.

    • Vampires are sensitive to the sun, and their pale skin burns easily. They prefer the shade, but the only thing sunlight will do to them is cause an uncomfortable burning and an overall weakness.

    • Those in this role-play have longer lives than real people, especially vampires.

    • Weapons are most commonly made of steel. Uncommonly may one find a weapon made of copper or bronze, and even more rarely one will find a silver weapon. There is little to no chance of one finding a gold weapon.

    • Etrium's landscape is anything you want it to be! Tundras, mountains, geysers, deserts... The only thing that Etrium doesn't have is a jungle. However, it has many woodlands, which make up for its lack of a rain forest.

    • Dawn in Etrium comes early--so does dusk. This is at any time of year--the sun's reign over the sky is shortened even further in the wintertime. Those who work in the daylight hours, in turn, must wake early if they are to complete their duties.

    • Unicorns have many magical properties, like extreme speed and agility. They can also purify poisoned food or water, and assist animals in need, acting as a living compass. They cannot levitate things or much of any other kind of magic like in My Little Pony.

    • You should put whether your unicorn, dragon, or horse is in captivity in the "other" section, if it hasn't been mentioned beforehand.

    • Haveron and his Court are NPCs, or non-playable characters. They also won't make an official appearance unless a large plot twist has come up.

    • This role-play got lots of its plot, races, and other things (maybe like the neighboring country of Skyrim?) from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It belongs to Bethesda Game Studios.
