Foxfur:
Yawning, I roll over, feeling rested even though my sleep was short and fitful. When I lift my head all the way, I see Shadepelt curled up in his nest, not far from me. I look around suspiciously; the den is empty except for us. I stand carefully and creep over, stopping at his side and leaning down until my nose is just a hair from his neck. I pause. His scent wafts up at me; like pine, like wind, like rain, and like him. I jump back, startled by the feeling that washed over me with his undeniably masculine scent. Afraid the jump will wake him, I bolt out of the den before he cracks an eye. Once outside, I snag a day-old mouse and settle down to eat. But my appetite is gone, and my stomach clenched in confused misery.
Hawktail:
I return to camp promptly, feeling better now that i'm not wandering the forest without a thought. When I enter, I cross first to the nursery, thinking I might as well check there for my mate. I stick my head in, and see nothing but dim light and a snoring queen. Then two surprisingly large furballs collide with my forelegs and I let out an amused yowl. I let them topple me over, pushing me out into the clearing. Stonekit and Mousekit are sprawled across my exposed chest fur. "Hello little ones." I purr, touching noses with my kits.
Stonekit:
"Hi DAD!" I squeal, licking his chest fiercely, unable to contain my rumbling purr. "Have you seen Mom? She hasn't been in all day!" I say, in confusion, searching my father's eyes for some kind of answer.
Mousekit:
"Forget mommy!" I chirp, indignantly, "You've forgotten the good news, brother!" I hiss playfully, then look at my daddy and purr proudly. I can barely get the words out psat my warbling pleasure, "We ate our first freshkill today, daddy!"
