Awe, that's a shame. By the way, it can't be a screech owl like you said under "common names", it's a barn owl. Screech owls aren't even tytos and their much smaller with rounder faces and a different facial disc. I nerded out there, sorry :3

I know what you mean, but 'Screech Owl' is also a common nickname for the Barn Owl (Tyto alba) due to it's call. Barn Owls have a plethora of nicknames, including White Owl, Hissing Owl and Ghost Owl, among others.
