She felt his front right fetlock and, sure enough, it was hot and swollen. " I think there's a hairline fracture. Get me the coldest water you can without it being cold enough for frostbite. I want to see if the swelling and heat goes away so I can assess it further. Good thing I'm a vet assistant right?"

She ran and grabbed a pail. She went down to the cold creek and got some water. Her grandma had been a wonderful vet and taught her all she knew starting at the age of six. She knew what to do, but in this situation she was too frightened to not listen to someone else.

" Thanks," she said, dipping her finger in the water to test the temperature. She dipped Sovereign's leg in it. " Now we wait to see if the heat and swelling disappear."

I kneeled down to pet the horse.
'I know,' I thought. I was worried a lot for him. I love animals so much, especially horses, I'd hate to see what would happen to me if this poor horse passed away.

Star smiled feeling free. Then something crossed her mind. Where was Sovereign? She let out a whistle and waited.

Snowflake instantly stopped to the whistle like it was a rein back. She pivoted and galloped a long side of Wings, Star jumping from Wings to Snowflake. "Sorry Wings! I got to go, but see you later!" She said to him, urging Snowflake on to the other side of the stables. She galloped right through the barn, vey nearly hitting a couple of helpers. "Sorry!" She called back to them, continuing on. Then it dawned on her that she didn't have a bridle. It was time to make use of what she was trying to teach Snowflake. Mane riding, that's just what she called it. Soon she was at Sovereign's pasture, seeing two figures, knelt beside him. "Go get help Snowflake!" She ordered, jumping off and tumbling to the ground as Snowflake was still galloping on, going into town. Star ran over to the two girls, ready to help where needed. "Guys, I sent for help." She said, panting from her tumble and run over to them. It looked like they had done all they could for the poor stallion.

After a good half an hour, the swelling hadn't gone down, and the heat was still there." I think it's something more serious than a hairline fracture. I think it's well and truly broken. We need an ambulance to get this guy some stitches and an X-ray. Hopefully the vet can give this guy the care he needs, and he won't have to be put down. Do you know a vet with a large animal ambulance?" she asked, concern present in her voice.

"Yeah," she said, then quieter,"My grandma owns a clinic."
She dialled her grandma's number.
"Hi, grandma? A horse fell and broke its fetlock. We need you to come right away."

"Stacy! You made it! We called for a large animal ambulance. We think he broke his fetlock. His head stopped bleeding but definitely needs stitches," she said, relieved Stacy had finally appeared.

Gran finally got there. She drove the huge truck over to where the poor horse was lying down. She got the horse into the horse trailer ambulance and said with a serious expression on her face,"Do you girls want to come? You might want to see what happens."
I immediately jumped into the trailer where the horse was lying down. Gran had made a special bench for me to sit on if I wanted to be near the animal. It was a soft bench, but that didn't matter. The only thing that mattered was the horse. I sat on the bench, and bending down, I pet the horse soothingly on the forehead. The bench was a two person bench, so I wondered if the other girls wanted to come and who would sit with her.

"Stacy? I'm Star, her daughter." She said. "It doesn't matter though. Hmm... I am agreeing with you, just I don't think it is big not cut open enough to damage the brain." She said looking it over. She went to look at his leg also. "Hmm..." She said, running her hand over his injured leg strongly. "Well, broken, no. I don't think fractured either. I could be mistaken, but I believe he sprained it badly. Same results as a brake or fracture, but swelling doesn't go down without continuous cold." She paused. "I sent my mare out. She could find a nearby vet also. I am sure that we could have my mom get her truck out here." She said. Then she saw the van. "Thanks for the offer, but I got to stay here."

Snowflake ran along, making sure to try to go fast, but not too fast that she couldn't get back home. She stopped at a not too well known vet who was trained in only horse vetting. She whinnied out, hoping someone would answer. Lacy popped her head out of the door, seeing Snowflake. "Well hello to you too!" Lady said cheerfully. Another whinny came, but a frighten sounding whinny. Lacy came up to Snowflake and looked her over with her eyes, but then realized this was Star's, Stacy's kid's, mare. She then realized what was going on. "Okay girl. I'll see if I can go!" She said, going to the barn and getting a horse bridled. Then she jumped on and galloped over towards Star Stable. Snowflake felt achieved, but unwell. She laid down on the cool fenced in yard's grassy ground and snorted. Snowflake didn't realize help was already there.
