Story: (Sacer's pov)As I grew old, I lost the luster of my fur but never the strength of my massive bulk. For I knew if I did, the young pups of the area would take over and kill me. I would not let that happen, for they did not uphold true honor! I snarled at the thought of how far our species have fallen these past few generations. I wandered my land and noticed a strange two-legged pup creature. I approached carefully, for that is how I had survived this long, and saw that it was shivering and had no fur. As soon as I noticed it was shivering, I dropped my guard and curled carefully around it, surrounding it in my fluffy self to keep it warm.
When other Calvents came around and growled at me to move from what he thought would be his-soon-to-be-meal, only then I got up and carved into the offending whelp. I knew it would need sustenance, and it was not old enough to eat meat, so I fed it as if it were my own offspring. When other two-legged creatures came, I knew they where here for the pup so I stood and showed them I meant no harm. The took the pup, and every year they came by, showing there thanks. So I showed mine by, rarely, giving them a pup, for hope that they could restore some honor. Sometimes they brought back my pups full grown, but by then I was losing control of my territory.
As I lay on my death bed, a light swallowed me and I saw a powerful being, one who would have defeated me even in the prime of my life. I knew that in my soul. He said to me, "For how you treated one of my creation's children, I will give you life, but you must keep your children and their children on the honorable path that you follow. Now drink, drink so that you may always be their to protect my children and the path." As I gazed into his wise eyes I said, "But I do not deserve the greatness you believe I do. I am a simple creature, and would not know what to do."
"Ah, but you do, in your heart. Nay, your very soul. Now drink, please." He said in a weary voice. I knew he could not hold me here, wherever 'here' is, any longer and he needed me to do this. So I lapped up what I could from the old, worn chalice and slipped into the darkness with his last words ringing through my head. "Thank you, my daughter."
When I woke up, my coat was more lustrous than ever and it glowed. I knew that like my pups I would have to find a two-legged who can be my companion. I also knew that once I had, I would be mortal once again, for there was no doubt that I was immortal. Until that time has arrived, I would hide so that none may discover me. Only letting them approach when I know that they are or will bring me to my life-companion.
P.S. I was watching Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade whilst writing this.
