It was the rustle of clothes that told him someone had crouched next to him. It could only be Aeron and his guess was confirmed when he heard his friend's voice, words slurred together as an effect of the amount of alcohol he had consumed. He could barely hear the words the Prince uttered, although the clicks before had certainly caught his attention. Forcing his eyes to open, Alvere was slightly taken back by the proximity of Aeron's face. Sitting down, however, seemed to have stopped the feeling of faintness and his vision was more secure now. At least he was nowhere near the maids any more, or the din of the hall. Here he could focus, concentrate.

Not to mention the blood seemed to have begun to clot over the wound, which meant he could remove the tourniquet soon. They should never be kept on for over a quarter of an hour anyway, so he had around another five minutes. Lucky me, he thought sluggishly, blinking rapidly to still his vision. "Don't worry about me," he croaked with a painful smile, "I'm not a fragile imp. I'll survive." Of course he would. It was only an arm wound. "Stop acting like a mother hen: it doesn't suit you." Hopefully he'd be able to get his hands on some clean water, a needle and a thread. Then he could sort himself out.

Aeron half-smirked, rocking back up onto his feet. Swaying a little, he decided to step back until he was leaning against the railing again. The world seemed to stop moving when he held onto the railing. He eyed his friend, satisfied that he was okay, "Now there's the Alvere we all know and love. Of course, I didn't think you were going to die..." Aeron made an odd chuckle that clearly meant for a moment, that had been exactly what his drunken self had thought. He shrugged, laughing a little, "Mother hen? Ha. I'd enjoy it while it lasts. I have a feeling I'm going to have one hell of a hangover in the morning."

Aeron traced a thumb down his jawline. That was going to prove to be a little bit of a problem. His father had mentioned a tourney tomorrow. Mêlée, archery, perhaps even jousting. It would be a good way to prove himself to the King of Istoth. That was if the allegiance still stood thanks to him. Cringing slightly, he gritted his teeth, "Do you think the alliance still stands..?"

"Say what you want. I know what you're like when you're inebriated." He replied, letting out a hissing breath through his teeth as pain lanced through his limb upon shifting his weight on the cold stone floor. Still the pain was soaring through his body, although the flaming heat seemed to be dying down slowly, which was a welcome relief. Soon he would have to get up and leave, clean his wound and sew it together. Then he might be expected to return to the feast, if it was still happening and the nobles had not left. But he did not feel that his own King would want him to return.

And what about the tournament tomorrow? He'd been planning to take part. Any man capable of holding a weapon was able to take part and prove themselves, and it would have been quite a form of entertainment; not to mention to show off his skills. Now, however, it seemed that he would be confined to sitting in the stands.

Aeron spoke again and Alvere looked up. "Don't know. Depends on what both Kings think. Just don't ever raise a knife and gesture to the Princess again. I'd like to keep use of my right arm."

Valoria liked to read. And when I say like, I mean it. Her older brothers joked they could start a war and Val wouldn't notice if she had a good book. This statement was put to the test as Aeron began to disrupt the otherwise peaceful banquet. Val's food lay untouched as chaos erupted around her. She sat with her book nestled safely under the table in her lap, completely oblivious to her surroundings.
Her ignorance was shattered as a maid bustled by her, accidently bumping Val's seat. She jerked her head up, blinking rapidly. People were running back and forth, and was that a knife in Alvere's arm? Frowning, Val looked around again. The seats next to her had been deserted; she was the only one still in a seat.
"Well, then. I guess the banquet's over," she muttered, rising to her feet. The small redhead filled her plate with various fruits and cheeses, balancing a flask of cider between her fingers. Walking to the nearest servant, Val received detailed instructions on the location of the library. Confident she could find her way, she wove through the mess of chairs and tables until -free from the banquet hall at last- the ground cleared out and she could take longer strides. Book tucked under her arm and a plate and cider flask in each hand, Val set off for the library.

Dorian stood in the corner, unable to contain his laughter. He had known the prince liked his wine, so -in a moment of recklessness- the troublemaking mage had spiked the wine with a little something extra. Nothing harmful, but anybody drinking more than one glass of the liquid would experience extreme paranoia, anger, or other strong emotion. In this case, the herbs Dorian used had made their way almost directly into the Prince's glass. Intentional? Maybe.
But who likes a party without some fun? Admittedly, Dorian regretted the injury of the guard from Seulghem, but it wasn't anything bad. He'd recover within a few days. Still chuckling to himself, the common-born mage stepped over a fallen plate of grapes while ignoring the looks he received. Who dared to laugh at such a disaster? Dorian, that's who. He didn't care at all what the others thought of him as long as he'd had a good time.

Princess Evangeline barely registered anything that had happened. It had all went by rather quickly, leaving the poor girl in a bit of a daze. All she remembered was an extremely drunk Aeron holding up a knife. Strangely enough, not once did she feel scared. No fear had entered her mind or body, even with Aeron waving a knife around. She didn't find him threatening at all. For some odd reason, Evangeline didn't believe that Aeron could hurt her.
Blinking, Evangeline heard people screaming, ladies fainting, men shouting, as well as Kai, a guard she recognized, rushing towards Prince Aeron. There was a man from the Royal Guard of Seulghem too, Alvere, she thought his name was. And then blood, coming from Alvere's arm, making Evangeline realize that Aeron had accidentally stabbed the man with the knife. She figured that he had meant to aim for Kai, but seemed to have lost his footing and tripped over something.
When Evangeline's mind cleared, Prince Aeron was rushing out of the dining hall and his father, the king of Seulghem, was calling him a disgrace. Immediately, people swarmed the startled princess, asking her if she was all right and fussing over her health. Evangeline managed to regain some of her dignity and came back to her senses, pushing the servants as well as her mother and father away. Whispering quickly to one of the serving ladies, Evangeline requested for some extremely strong tea with many spices to clear the mind. It was a special brew of Istoth's taverns, for curing headaches and hangovers, as well as restoring your mind when you were extremely drunk.

Holding the cup of extremely strong tea, Evangeline made her way to the balcony, where she had seen Aeron run towards, along with Alvere trailing a bit slower behind. Pushing open the door, Evangeline sat down next to Aeron, looking up at him in silence. Finally, after a few breaths, she grabbed his wrist gently but firmly, pulling him down with a surprisingly amount of strength so that he would take a seat next to her. "Sit down, Aeron. At this rate, you'll end up tripping and falling off the balcony, which admittedly I might even enjoy, but the treaty can't very well have that, can it?" Her voice was quiet, serious, and she looked at Prince Aeron evenly. Almost scarily calm, Evangeline handed him the cup of tea. "Drink it; you'll feel better." A flicker of amusement passed through her eyes as she rolled her shoulders, leaning against the balcony railing as the cool bars pressed into her back. "And don't worry, it's not poisoned," Managing a laugh with a trace of dark humor in it, Evangeline got to her feet, gripping Aeron's shoulder in an almost reassuring manner as she did so.
Turning to Alvere, she raised a single eyebrow, staring at his arm wound. "If you'd like, I can take you to one of the healers. Or, if you're anything like Adonis over here, you'll want a pretty little maid instead." There was a trace of a smile on Evangeline's face, and she looked at the Royal Guard member with a considerable amount of compassion and kindness. Of course, that may have just been guilt and pity, considering the man was bleeding.
Speaking to both of the men, although it was more directed to Aeron, who was probably feeling extremely poor right now, Evangeline stated, "And don't worry about the alliance being damaged. If my father still has his memories, he'll remember plenty of times he's fallen to his fat arse on account of a few too many drinks. Happened during his wedding, in fact; my mother's parents were furious,"
Laughing sincerely now, Evangeline glanced at both of the Seulghem men and said in a cheerful sort of manner, "I think this is the start of a beautiful alliance, isn't it? Look at this, we're already friends. After all, it's hard to go through a scene like that and not develop any bonds with each other,"

Aeron let out a loud laugh at Alvere's words, "I don't think I've ever seen you react more swiftly in your life! I was never actually going to stab the Princess - I could have been about to carve some meat." Aeron shook his head and looked at the floor. He was drifting into a nice stage of drunkenness; one that made him want to curl up and go to sleep; with one arm draped over the bosom of a young maid. Unfortunately, the only other substitute in the vicinity was Alvere, and that wasn't going to be happening anytime soon.

As if on cue, the door to the balcony room clicked open. Surprise was clear on his face as he recognised the Princess. Come to gloat he supposed. Aeron stood, utterly confused, as she sat down next to him. He didn't even attempt to struggle as she grabbed his wrist and pulled him down - forcefully - to the floor next to her. Aeron allowed himself to slide down the cool railings, his legs stretched out in front of him. Aeron frowned as she spoke, and didn't even attempt to hide his utter confusion as she handed him a cup of tea. Now this. This was just strange. Aeron glanced around, half expecting a bumbling white rabbit and a mad hatter to join their odd, impromptu tea party. He managed a small laugh as she mentioned the tea not being poisoned. Still, he was a little suspicious of her actions.

The Princess rose to her feet, keeping a hand gently on his shoulder. Aeron made no attempt to shrug it away, finding the pressure strangely comforting. As she turned her attentions to Alvere, Aeron lifted the cup of tea to his lips taking a sip as he raised his eyebrows at his friend. The tea was strong and pungent, just like the wine had been. It seemed like the Istoth people did nothing by halves. However Aeron drunk it all the same, relaxing more with each sip.

Aeron scowled a little as she called him 'Adonis'. The way he'd said it had made him sound impressive and god-like. Evangeline used it in an almost teasing manner. He did manage another chuckle as she mentioned the 'pretty little maid'. Were they truly that transparent? Aeron took another long sip of his herbal tea. It was good stuff, perhaps he would contemplate drinking it instead of alcohol in the future. He internally scoffed at himself. It was good to here the alliance was still solid; it meant that he would keep his life and perhaps salvage his fathers respect for him.

Then the Princess's voice turned to a cheerful one. Friends? Was she serious? Unable to hold his tongue anymore, Aeron snorted and set the teacup down beside him. Still, he did not attempt to shrug away her hand, instead choosing to look up at her from where he sat, "I don't buy it. After I just brandished a knife in your face and almost restarted the war? I want all ulterior motives on the table now." The tea was beginning to calm and clear his mind, but he still couldn't shake the skepticism that Dorian's special 'herbal' wine had induced.

Kai braced himself as Aeron changed. He instantly regretted his words, but he couldn't take them back now, could he? Especially not when his opponent was moving. Instead of holding the knife like a dagger, he flipped the blade so that it was pointed directly at him. Kai let out a silent growl and tensed, his right hand slowly shifting to grab Aeron's arm to disarm him when he came near. He never got the chance. As Aeron tripped, a slight lifting of his spirits made him shift, hoping to simply take the knife from him. However, the knife ended up embedding itself deep into the arm of Aeron's own captain, Alvere.

After that happened, Kai stepped a bit away from the princess. He turned towards the Seulgehm's royals as the spoke. He couldn't keep the corner's of his mouth from turning upwards slightly as Aeron was scolded. However, he did wipe off the slight smirk as he turned to look back at Alvere. He was being tended to by a few maids, but soon brushed them aside and left the hall. The others all started to trickle out as well, leaving Kai to simply turn towards the princess and make sure she hadn't been hurt in the confusion.

As he did, however, whatever trace of happiness in him was gone. She had pushed away those trying to help her, as he figured she would, but was now leaving. She had gotten a cup of something from a maid, and could only guess it was a special brew for Aeron. Scoffing, he turned from everyone and left the hall. As soon as he was in the hallways, he took off towards his room. It was only a moment, and he locked the door securely behind him. Once inside, he sat on the edge of the bed and placed his head in his hands. "Of course. The largest jerk in the entire kingdom and Evan has to grow a soft spot for her..."

Standing quickly, he changed back into his normal guard outfit. Once that was done, he wasn't really sure what to do. He figured that the last place Aeron or Evan would go right now would be either the kitchen, the library, or the courtyard. He didn't want to go near the dining hall, and the stable hands tended to ignore him because of his tendency to accidentally startle the horses. That left only the library. Sighing, he turned and headed towards it.

Though he never really went there, it was still peaceful. The vast room offered an easy way to avoid those you didn't want to see, and the large bay windows offered excellent views. He often sat in the window and simply gazed out over the lands. As he neared the doors, however, he heard someone approaching. Glancing up, he saw Val. She was about the only person he wouldn't mind speaking to right now, and he hastened forward to open the large doors for her.

"I'm sorry about that. Forgetting to show you around, I mean. Things got a bit out of hand... And now I believe Evangeline is consorting with Aeron." A touch of anger mixed with his sarcasm, as he chuckled at Val. "Would you like a hand with any of that?"

As Val approached the library, a tall figure turned around the corner. Kai. Breaking into a smile, she greeted the Istoth guard.
"Hello, Kai," she started, as if talking to an old friend. Noticing the anger in Kai's voice, Val made a note to keep tabs on Aeron and Evangeline's relationship. If they grew to be friends, it would do great things for the peace treaty. The opposite was true if they hated each other.
So wrapped up in her thoughts, Val almost missed Kai's offer of assistance. "What? Oh, no, I'm good. You've already opened the door, which was more than enough." She smiled and walked through the entryway of the library.
The Royal Library of Istoth was an impressive room. A large desk dominated the center of the chamber, and shelves reaching to the ceiling were full as could be with books. Tomes, records, novels, scrolls and stories of all shapes and sizes. A large window on the far wall let in a fair amount of light, but candles were still necessary by the desk. Valoria's overall impression was good. To her left, the room opened up, allowing for rows of shelves. Vowing to explore their contents later, she skipped past the bookshelves and sat down at the desk. She still needed to eat, after all. Setting her book down and placing her plate in the middle of the table, Val turned to face Kai.
"Would you like some blackberries?"

"What can I say? Pretty maids make nice bedfellows," he resonded, sucking in a deep breath, "however, I would prefer a healer right now. Do you think you could get one here, Your Highness?" Alvere truly felt that if he stood up, he'd ever sink to the floor again, retch violently, or do both. Neither would be particularly welcome and as such Alvere would rather sit here, on the floor. At least it was time to remove the tourniquet. Lifting his right arm, he struggled with the tight knot but managed to get it loose enough to simply pull off of his arm. Then he pressed it to the wound, just in case, and let his head rest against the wall.
