Currently;; Greeting the Princess | Tagged;; Evan, Valoria
Aeron did not see the Princess arrive, nor where she had appeared from. He was far too busy thinking of a good explanation as to why he was dressed like a common huntsman. Wearing the clothes he had on the night before was not the best way to greet opposing Royals. Of course, he had thought it was a great idea at the time - remaining defiant and all. Now he didn't feel quite so confident. So far he'd thrown together a cobbled explanation that he had in fact being hunting early in the morning and simply lost track of time. Originally he had been hunting stag, though the hounds had caught scent of a boar deeper in the forest. A boar was suitably noble, dangerous and manly. Hell, it might even impress them a little. Aeron sighed. All lies of course, to conceal the fact he had in fact being missing in action, sleeping off an alcoholic coma in some dirty wench's flea-ridden bed.
Aeron began to slowly shuffle his way over to where his mother and father were greeting their new allies. Smiles all around it seemed to be. Aeron almost snorted. These people had been mortal enemies for decades, and now they were acting like they had been friends for years. He only hoped that the Istoth part of the treaty was genuine and they hadn't all been lured here to be murdered in their beds. That made him chuckle slightly. His interest was piqued as his eyes flickered onto a young women approaching the Royals. Aeron's eyes trailed her shamelessly from behind as he followed her towards the rulers. Maybe she was a messenger or perhaps a maid. He'd definitely have to catch up with her after he'd said his formalities. Get her to spend the night in his room. That brought a smirk to his lips.
It was when she turned around that the smirk wiped off Aeron's face and he raised his eyebrows as he approached. The Princess. Aeron watched as she got on her knees to greet his parents. Pft. Aeron snorted, he would not be kneeling to anyone today. Aeron came to a stop next to the Royals. As the Princess stood up, all Aeron could hope was that the King of Istoth hadn't caught the lustful looks he'd being giving her. Granted, he hadn't recognised her as the Princess at the time, but he highly doubted the King would see it that way. Now on her feet, Aeron allowed his eyes to momentarily flicker onto her attire. Not what he had been expecting. Aeron had imagined a demanding brat; wearing a massive bejewelled ball gown in some shade of pink or lilac. At the very least he had expected a tiara. The Princess inclined her head slightly in greeting. A disapproving cough from the King of Istoth soon corrected her, and Aeron couldn't help but notice the momentary disappointment on her face. He was unable to hide the smugness that struck his features as she bowed again, this time lower.
As she spoke her greetings, Aeron thought he caught a blush gracing her cheeks. He pretended not notice instead, resting a hand lightly on his stomach and bowing himself. Given the height difference, it was less like he was bowing, more like he was leaning his face towards her. Straightening himself up he folded his arms across his chest. He cracked a small smile as he gestured towards their attire, "Princess Evangeline." his eyes flickered to check on their parents. They were already making their way into the Castle, "I see I'm not the only one failing to take this thing seriously." Aeron inclined his head as Lady Perry approached. One of the younger members of Court, she was a similar age to him. Pretty, yet inflicted with a medical condition. He listened to her speak before nodding his agreement, "I'd love the opportunity to change attire before meeting the King and Queen." Aeron was discreetly aware of the slight mixture of sweat and alcohol that clung to his shirt.
(Yay your back vita! We missed you ^^ Aeron has his muse back... Now to get motivated for Ana >:3)

— H.G. Wellsformat © vitality. Evangeline gritted her teeth when she spotted Aeron's smug look when her father had forced her to bow lower to the arrogant prince. She kept her expression smooth, a single eyebrow raised as Prince Aeron in turn bowed to her. It really wasn't much of a bow, considering the height difference. Him slightly bending his neck to look her closer in the eye made Evangeline wish that she was taller. She wanted to slap his haughty expression off his face and her hand twitched, but Evangeline forced her arm to stay still.
Evangeline aimed another glance at Prince Aeron. This time she didn't glare, at least, not a lot. Instead, a flicker of amusement spread across her face, and she relaxed her serious stance considerably when Prince Aeron commented on her underdressed appearance. She took in his own apparel and noticed that he looked a bit like a common huntsman, a light sheen of sweat on his forehead and a simple cloak draped around his shoulders. Evangeline returned his smile one of her own, although she was sure to keep it small, in order to not encourage him. "I guess neither of us are very fit for royal occasions, hm? How ironic,"
Hearing a lady from Seulghem's envoy speak, Evangeline picked up her head and looked at the small woman. Smiling sincerely, Evangeline treated the slight redhead with more friendliness than she had directed towards Prince Aeron. "Of course, my lady. I can show you to your room right away, then." Evangeline's attention was turned back towards Prince Aeron, her smile disappearing as she looked at him. She nodded at him, not bothering to say anything to the arrogant prince.
Swallowing back a sigh, Evangeline turned around and headed towards the castle, brushing by her parents none too happily and opening the doors a bit grumpily. Her self-control ended up getting in the way of her current dismay at having visitors, and she relaxed, breathing slowly. Holding her head high, Evangeline could at least carry herself like a princess, her expression calm with just a bit of steel. Turning back towards Aeron and Lady Perry (her parents had forced Evangeline to learn and memorize all the names of the people in the envoy beforehand), Evangeline waved her hand in the direction of the stairs. "Upstairs, to the left, is where you all will be staying. I can take you there," Evangeline offered politely, beginning to walk up the staircase.
Gods know I need to clean myself up as well, Evangeline thought to herself unhappily as she arrived upstairs. Kneeling down, she took off her boots, not really caring what the two Seulghem royals though of her. Evangeline acted like a regular commoner more than a princess, even after all the years of being taught proper manners of a royal princess. Suddenly feeling too tired to have to deal with such petty courtesies, Evangeline said evenly, "My room is right down the hall, so if you two need any assistance, feel free to knock on my door. Lady Perry, you may rest in the first room. Aeron, the men will be staying in the next hallway." Evangeline just realized her mistake, and she quickly amended it, caring at least enough to address people properly, especially the enemy prince. "Prince Aeron, sorry,"
Giving Prince Aeron and Lady Valoria an apologetic glance, Evangeline wasted no more time in running down the hall and opening her own door, shutting it quietly and collapsing on her bed. She really felt like sleeping and taking a nap, but no time for that. The only thing keeping her going was the thought of the feast, so Evangeline got to her feet and dressed accordingly. She chose a dress long enough so that she could go barefoot without anyone noticing. She hated the shoes that her mother made her wear because they were much too uncomfortable for her to run in. She preferred boots, but her mother would have her head if she used her regular and slightly battered hunting boots to wear to dinner. So her mother would just have to deal with Evangeline without shoes at all.
Evangeline didn't mind her dress. It was simple enough, long and loosely hugging her figure. It was like fire, with a blend of of red and orange and slight underlying accents of yellow. It had pinned up sleeves similar to a cloak that were a dark, reddish brown in color. Fabric roses the same color were stitched to the breast of the dress, and overall it was kind of simple, but very nice, though not nearly as extravagant as the other dresses of the ladies of the court. Evangeline took her hair out of its braid and let her waves hang loose, braiding small sections but allowing the bulk of her hair to be let down freely. She also put on a tiara, nothing too grand, a simple white one with round pearls set in.
As soon as Evangeline was done dressing, she stepped outside of her room, stepping quietly so no one would hear her sneaking around upstairs. She walked down to the right, going towards the hallway of rooms for the men. There was a set of double doors that led to her favorite place in the castle, a large balcony overlooking the entire kingdom. So tall and high up, Evangeline adored her favorite spot, sometimes even going there to sleep, bringing out pillows and blankets and just looking up at the stars. Her father had noticed her frequent outings and had had a simple bench pulled out and placed on the balcony. It was probably the best present her father had ever given her, other than her snowy white horse, of course. It was there that she was now sitting, enjoying the gentle breeze hitting her face.

Currently;; Going to his room | Tagged;; Evan, Valoria
Aeron stood quietly as Evangeline spoke to Valoria, her tone friendly. Yet he couldn't help but notice the Princess's expression become cold once more as she regarded him; all traces of a smile gone. Truth be told, he hadn't really known what to expect when he got here. His more narcissistic side had expected red carpets and ladies swooning at his feet. Perhaps that was what happened back in Seulghem but here was different. Civility was the most he could ask for. Aeron waited for both the ladies to begin walking before he followed on himself. He locked his arms behind his back as he walked, clasping his left wrist within his right hand. Aeron chose not to speak, instead allowing his blue eyes to flicker around, taking in both passing people and his surroundings. The Castle was not unlike his own. He reached out a hand to catch the door, passing beneath it and into the entrance. The Istoth colours adorned the walls; colours which had historically being the sign of the enemy. Yet, here he stood - inside the enemy castle. All except instead of toasting a victory with the King of Istoth's head on a spike, he was following the Princess to his guest chamber to change his attire. It seemed laughable.
As they arrived at the top of a staircase, the Princess dropped down and began to take off her shoes. Aeron stopped abruptly, almost walking into her. One eyebrow raised as he watched her unlace her boots, his lips parting slightly. Well, this was odd. He'd seen better manners in a dray horse. As Evangeline turned towards them again, Aeron closed his mouth; his eyebrow still remaining slightly raised. Any assistance? Psh he needed assistance...unlacing his breeches. That thought caused a smirk to play across his lips, but he quickly corrected himself with a frown; averting his gaze to the ground. The King of Istoth would not appreciate him using his daughter as a plaything. Her slip-up amused him a little. First name terms were they now, eh? News to him. Based on the number of glares she'd already given him, Aeron would've guessed she was about as happy about the peace treaty as he was. The Princess then turned and ran away down the corridor, into the room she had called her own. Aeron turned to Valouria, a slight smile on his face, "I had heard the Istoth people were odd. But, I must admit, I wasn't quite expecting that." Catching sight of a Seulghem steward making his way up the stairs behind them Aeron called out, "Have some men bring both mine and Lady Perry's cloth casks to our rooms. We wish to freshen up before feasting." The man nodded and hurried away to fetch the casks. Aeron turned back to Valoria and inclined his head slightly, excusing himself, "M'lady."
Turning on his heel, Aeron made his way into the next corridor, picking the first room and pushing open the door. It seemed to be unoccupied. He closed the door, before swiftly untying his cloak and removing leather breastplate. Reaching a hand behind his back, Aeron pulled his shirt over his head before kicking off his boots and slipping off his breeches. It was moments before the door opened, as two servants struggled in with his oak cask. Aeron snorted, "Take your time." It wasn't long before he stood infront of the mirror, his servants dusting off his outfit. Dark brown breeches were tucked into knee-high boots. Even Aeron had to admit, the servants had done well polishing them. A crisp white shirt was particially concealed beneath an open black doublet - it's high collar reaching to just beneath his jawline. A thick silver and steel chain coiled over his shoulders, offering a solitary piece of decoration. Widowmaker hung from his hip as always.
Casting his servants aside Aeron exited the room and began to slowly make his way back down the corridor. He passed a set of double doors and hesitated, spying the Princess out of the corner of his eye. Clearly his throat, he turned, making his way slowly into the room and walking past her; to the edge of the balcony. Aeron leant forward, resting his hands on the railing, "We have a balcony much like this in Seulghem. Except the view is different. Instead of idyllic rolling hills and patchwork feilds, we have a vast black lake." He turned folding his arms across his chest. His tone was almost child-like, "My view is better." Aeron took this moment to glance over her attire subtely, "A dress befits you, Princess." It was about as near to a compliment as he was prepared to give.

After perfecting her maid attire and looks, Elizabeth entered the kitchen and got to work along with the other maids. They didn't really question her being there since they were busy enough as is, and appreciated an extra able body. Lucky for her, the young blonde was assigned the job to bring the platters of food out into the banquet hall. The maids stacked her up and sent her on her way for her first delivery.
This kind of work was not anything new to the girl, however. This wasn't her first time sneaking about the castle. She had three silver platters, one in each hand and one on her head. Clearing her throat, she walked gracefully out into the hall, and began to wish her boots had higher heels. Not all the maids wore them, but it would help for her to fit in better. Reaching the table, she set down the platters gently and straightened back up. A quick check to make sure her necklace was safely hidden beneath her dress, and she headed back to the kitchen.

Evangeline was deep in thought, doing nothing in particular. She was toying with a strand of her platinum-blonde hair, her long waves soft and shiny. She had brushed out all the tangles and knots in her hair in her room so that her pale hair was now sleek and clean, no longer messy from all her miniature adventures during the day. Tucking the piece of hair behind her ear, Evangeline turned around in surprise. She hadn't heard Prince Aeron walk onto the balcony, she had been so distracted, and it nearly made her have a heart attack when she heard his quiet voice. Twirling around to face Prince Aeron, she gripped the balcony railing with her hands behind her back, hazel-green eyes widened in shock. Evangeline let out a breathy sigh when she recognized the prince, her eyes rolling to the back of her head. Releasing her pained grip on the railing, Evangeline stepped forward, brushing a stray strand of hair out of her face. Her expression cleared and hardened into her usual one of royalty.
She didn't say anything, instead watched him almost carefully as he looked over the balcony and into her kingdom, the rolling hills and grassy fields full of plants and trees and green. She took notice of his new clean clothes, pressing a hand down over her own dress. She leaned against the bench, not quite sitting yet, and cocked her head to the side, her hair spilling over her shoulders. Evangeline rolled her eyes when Aeron commented like a child on how his view was better than hers. The mention of a vast black lake intrigued Evangeline though, but of course, dark water would never be as good as her soft, sweet-smelling fields of green and colors.
"You shouldn't stand so close to the balcony railing, Prince Aeron," Evangeline said in an almost-teasing voice, although she was nearly serious enough to be taken for her word. "I may just push you off if you get too annoying."
Going to stand next to him, she faced him, her hip resting gently against the railing. She raised an eyebrow as Aeron looked at her, taking notice that he was examining her attire. She was about to ask him if he liked what he saw in a sarcastic sort of manner, but Evangeline bit her tongue, instead allowing him to speak. She was surprised when Prince Aeron said that the dress "befitted" her, and she allowed a small smile to grace her features. It wasn't quite a compliment, but it might as well have been, considering who it was from. "I'm sure you would look just lovely in a dress as well, Prince," Now, Evangeline allowed her teasing tone to fully shine through, and she relaxed considerably around him, her gaze softening into something that could have been taken as friendliness, meeting his gaze with intent other than verbal sparring.
"You clean up nicely," Evangeline rolled her shoulders back, wincing slightly as she felt soreness in her arms. Climbing castle walls was one of her favorite pastimes, but even Evangeline felt the effects of physical exertion, as much as she climbed or how fit she was. Sighing inwardly, she eyed Prince Aeron evenly. "So, which maid or servant are you planning on preying tonight, Prince Aeron?" She allowed herself a humorless laugh, gaze sliding over to the rolling fields of Istoth. "I've heard a lot about you, Prince. You have quite the... reputation," There was a threatening sort of undertone to her voice, as if Evangeline was warning Aeron not to sleep with any of her handmaidens, or else she would have his head.

Aeron almost laughed aloud as she teasingly threatened to push him off the balcony. Firstly, because he suspected all the Seulghem nobles were going to be poisoned at the feast anyway, and secondly because, psh, a petite thing like her push him over the balcony? Please. He highly doubted she could even lift a longsword. Evangeline came to stand next to him and Aeron caught her smile as he mentioned her dress. It wasn't meant it to come out as a compliment, more of a formality. Then the Princess teased him about wearing a dress. That did make him laugh. Well, until he stopped abruptly, frowning slightly - as if thinking it through. Him in a dress was a disturbing thought and something he would make sure never became a reality.
When Evangeline returned the compliment he averted his gaze momentarily, a smirk on his face. Even observations like that were enough to stroke his ego. Not that it needed much stroking. He may have responded with some narcissistic comment; however he held his tongue. He couldn't trust himself not to say something completely self-absorbed. Aeron caught on to her discomfort in her arms, but left it. What could he do?! It was hardly his place to be offering her a back massage.
Suddenly, the atmosphere changed, from borderline friendly to stone-cold serious. She was asking him about who was going to grace his bed sheets tonight. He had a 'reputation'. Aeron was well aware of that one, and a little impressed that his reputation stretched over to Istoth. At first, Aeron was going to adopt a sheepish expression, but he decided against it; instead straightening up and mirroring the sharpness that the Princess had adopted in her own dangerous tone, "Until you revealed yourself as the Princess earlier, I had planned on 'preying' on you. Now I suppose I shall have any servant or maid I choose." he shrugged, his tone challenging, "Who am I to deny them." Smirking, Aeron took a step away from the balcony, unfolding his arms, "Haven't we got a feast to attend?"
(Tired. I feel like I should probably read it for mistakes. Can't be bothered. Must sleep >< )

Swallowing a sigh of relief, Val followed the princess up the stairs and down the hall with hurried steps. She had observed the Prince's ogling with barely contained disgust; Evangeline was beautiful, but leering at her like he would a mere tavern wench was a disgrace upon his name. Not in the position to do anything about it, Val had stood silently as the two royals exchanged greetings. Later Val would laugh as she recounted their similar disregard for propriety, but at the time she had done nothing but follow in silence.
She jumped a little as Aeron turned to her. "Your Grace," she'd responded as way of acknowledgement. It was thoughtful of him to include her clothes in his request; Val made a mental note to remember the kindness.
Finally in her room, Val collapsed upon the bed, kicking off her boots and shimmying out of her jacket. Lying on her back, she lazily looked to the side, surveying her new abode. Elegant furnishings: four-poster canopy bed with chiffon curtains, a spacious wardrobe closet across the room, low trestle table with lounge chairs in the center of a large rug carpeting the floor, and a vanity by her head. Overall, her room gave off a cozy, lived-in feel. It was a nice change from her own chambers in Seulghem. Those were sparsely decorated and overall just drab. But Istoth was nice. She could get used to it.
A knock at the door alerted Valoria to the servants bringing her clothes. She let them in, and thanked the nervous maids for their offer of assistance. Val wasted no time in getting dressed; tardiness would not be looked upon nicely. She slipped her thin frame into the outfit she'd selected for the evening.
A dark blue, sleeveless chiton that belted at the waist over a light blue underdress made of lightweight silk allowed for plenty of movement while still retaining a look of refined grace. Not to mention the silk underdress was ridiculously comfortable. Val sat at the vanity while a young maid brushed the tangles from her hair. She chose to leave the red locks down, framing her face and bringing out the blue undertones in her otherwise greyish eyes. Sighing, the slender lady excused the maid.
"Tonight is going to be dreadful," Val commented to her reflection once she was alone. She supposed there was the possibility of fun, but as the reality of the situation dawned on her, Val found herself wishing for nothing more than a quiet corner to read a book. She'd brought a small copy of Fables and Faeries with her, and she grasped it with a surprisingly strong hand as she walked to the door. Breathing out a sigh, Val slipped into a pair of dark blue slippers that quickly disappeared under her dress. Opening the door, Val began to walk down the hall.

Kai watched from the background as the stable boys came forth to take the envoy's horses to the stables. It all went rather smoothly, making Kai nod. He was glad that they did everything smoothly. The last thing they needed was a mishap. If everything went well, the envoy would have to see that Istoth was indeed as fair a kingdom as Kai knew it was. Once the horses were put away, Kai expected the envoy to follow him into the main hall. However, he found that was no longer necessary. The Istoth royals had arrived. He started searching out the princess, but didn't see her. Regardless, he bowed towards his rulers.
After a moment, the sudden appearance of Evangeline brought a smile to his face. He never liked how strict the royal family was. Dressing up and looking good didn't make someone a better person. If Evangeline was covered in mud and wearing grubby old clothes, she would still be better than a thieving assassin in jewels and silk. Evangeline would make him proud, he was sure. The way she interacted with the the others brought many other emotions forward, however.
Kai instantly became more guarded when he glanced at the envoy. There were many more than he had originally thought, but that wasn't his problem. His issue was that he had scolded the man that was apparently the prince. Hopefully, that incident would pass without causing him trouble. At the same time, he would have loved to have drawn that man's attention away from Evangeline. The way he was eyeing her was nothing short of crude and downright inappropriate. The servants and other attendants of the Seulghem envoy were staying nearby to their nobles, so he figured that it would be allowed for him to trail after his own.
As the other nobles were directed to their rooms, they all dispersed. Evangeline ran off to her own room, leaving Kai to remain on the stairs alone. He didn't mind- a few minutes of peace and quiet were always appreciated. He started thinking to himself, and thus didn't hear when Evangeline left her room. After a moment, however, the sound of a door caught his attention. Turning, Kai caught sight of Val. He bowed his head in greeting. Noting the book under her hand, he smiled at her. She looked beautiful in the dress. Earlier, her outfit reminded him a bit of Evangeline.
"Greetings, Val. That dress is a good match for you." When he was around other nobles, he would have to remember to call her Lady Valoria. It wouldn't do for the uppers to get mad at him. Now, however, they were at least alone. There was just something about her that drew him in, though. "Perhaps after dinner you would like a tour of the castle? There is a beautiful garden and a library and many other interesting places."

Val caught sight of Kai and smiled. It was nice to see a familiar face, even it wasn't really that familiar. "Hey Kai!" Val called out, rushing over him. She stopped a couple feet away, noticing he wore the same uniform. Looking up at his face, Val blushed as she smiled. "Oh, thank you," she responded, genuinely flattered by the compliment. It actually seemed like he meant it, which was a surprise. Most people gave out empty compliments, mere formalities in the game of politics. Kai was blunt, but in a good way.
"A library?" Val gasped, unable to keep the hope out of her voice. Libraries were Val's one safe place. She could curl up behind the shelves and lose herself in historical documents, romances, mythologys and adventures. Libraries had them all, and you didn't need to be a good runner or fighter to excel in reading. "I would love to go to the library," Val continued. "They're simply wonderful. All full of books and stories!" she clasped her hands together, giving Kai a beaming smile. "Do you like to read?" she asked.

Evangeline almost laughed when Prince Aeron did. Almost. A ghost of a smile played on her lips, but she was much too tired and much too annoyed with all the people in her castle to completely relax around the enemy prince. The smile widened, showing her straight white teeth, when Aeron frowned after abruptly ceasing his chuckling. She began to imagine the prince in a dress, and consequently hid her silent laughter behind a graceful hand, although her lit-up eyes betrayed her amusement. The laughter disappeared when Prince Aeron smirked at her returning his formal half-compliment. It was true; the prince did clean up nicely, and was a very handsome man, but Evangeline hated him because she had to. They were from opposing kingdoms, although if he wasn't so arrogant and if was from Istoth, Evangeline imagined she might like him. As a friend, of course, and nothing more. Marriage and courting with the last thing on Evangeline's mind, although she could tell that from the treaty, she would most likely end up being married to Prince Aeron to join the two enemy kingdoms. If only I had an older sister, Evangeline sighed inwardly, now feeling a whole lot more unhappy. SHe would have to sit in on the meeting, the discussion of the treaty, and see just what sort of impossible position they were going to put Princess Evangeline in.
When Aeron replied to her comments about his infamous reputation, she almost stepped back. But instead, she held her head high, aiming a fiery sort of glare at Aeron, looking him directly in the eye. "Earlier, I was wearing commoner clothing, nothing at all royal. If that's the sort of woman you're interested in, then your 'reputation' certainly precedes you. Imagine, the only reason you go after the lowly maids and servants, and dirty prostitutes too, I expect, is because you certainly can't get any woman of power or respect." Namely, me, Evangeline thought defiantly, the blaze still in her eyes. She said this in a very pleasant and polite voice, as if she were stating simple everyday facts rather than attempting to insult the prince of Seulghem.
"Yes, I expect we do have a feast to attend." Giving him a smile that wasn't at all sincere, Evangeline brushed by Aeron rather roughly, her hand pressing against his chest as she less than gently shoved him away. Half-storming out of the balcony, Evangeline went back inside and ran downstairs, her bare feet flying down the stairs and into the dining hall. As she blasted in, she realized she had attracted stares, but she didn't care. As predicted, all the ladies were dressed up extravagantly, and Evangeline was looking a bit plain, but still, the princess demanded attention, her beauty unsurpassed by all in the room. After all, a complicated dress would distract from her natural prettiness. She wasn't looking quite as beautiful now though, as Evangeline sat down a tiny bit grumpily as she brushed back her hair and fixed the positioning of her tiara. Her gaze was flickering towards the doors, wondering when Prince Aeron would make his own royal arrival.
