^ if that isn't amazing, I don't know what is. x3

How do you think the beginning of There And Back Again will start?
This is a really good question. Hmm... I'm not a huge expert in movies, and I'm not completely fluent in PJ's directing techniques so of course I can't be totally sure.

- spoilers ahead -

Let's see — in DoS the movie ended with Smaug flying off to Laketown for revenge and the Company watching in horror. In the book (from what I remember), however, the Company was actually still in the halls of Erebor when the dragon decided to gallivant away, so this throws a bit of a wrench into my thoughts as the movie isn't following the canon book in this matter.
I'm wildly guessing that the movie would perhaps start on a sort of nervous, fearsome note; maybe it'll start out in Laketown, showing the dwarves that stayed behind and how they are coping, before cutting back to the rest of the Company at the mountain, showing them preparing for battle or something like that? :P

Eh, I dunno.

Well...I don't know, to be honest. As what Greenleaf stated, I don't know PJ's directing techniques/etc, but honestly the best time to start making these type of predictions is when we actually get a trailer to work with. At least, that's what I think.

Honestly, I'm more terrified of what will happen after they finish that movie, I mean even though there are still other books out there, I honestly can't say if they would be willing to put any time or effort to recreate them, or if enough fans would be interested.

I have a question.

In the Hobbit extended edition, Bofur jumps on a table and sings a song, and the dwarves go wild and throw food. You can't tell really clearly, but it looks like Bilbo wasn't happy with all of the wildness going on. In one part it looked like he was holding up a napkin, covering his face so he didn't get hit with food. His body language in general looked unhappy from far away.

But.....in the FOTR book, it says Bilbo wrote that song.

Is that an error/inconsistency?

The only thing I can think of is that maybe Bilbo taught them the song (or wrote it with Bofur possibly) before they got to Rivendell, but Bilbo just didn't like the wild way it was performed by Bofur.

Are we supposed to believe something like that, or did they just run out of songs to use, so they just used that one without realizing a plot error?

No, i don't remember reading anything about Bilbo writing the Smash the Plates song. And if he did write the song (which would be odd, as he isn't into songwriting yet at this era), how would the dwarves know it, unless they're perverted stalkers? x3
Or are you talking about a scene in Rivendell? If so, then I still don't remember Bilbo writing any other songs along the journey, save for the Road Goes Ever On and On song.

Do you know the name of the song, otherwise?

It's in the extended edition, and it's in Rivendell.

Ohhh, the 'Man on the Moon Stayed Up Too Late' song? :P yes, in that case, Bilbo did indeed write it sometime in his earlier life. He taught it to Frodo before FOTR, and in the book at the inn of the Prancing Pony I remember Frodo singing it, if I'm correct.

I never knew that PJ created such an amusing headcanon for AUJ, for that matter. :P thanks for showing me! I hope that answered your question, Amy. :3

I got to the part where Frodo sang it in the FOTR book, and that's when I got confused.

But why would Bilbo write it if Bofur sang it? Bilbo didn't seem happy with all of the commotion Bofur caused while singing it in Rivendell.

Do you think Bilbo taught it to Bofur? That kind of seems like a stretch to me, and more like a lazy error because they couldn't write another song.

The book and movie canons don't always seem to match in this series, so maybe Bofur wrote it in the movie canon, and Bilbo wrote it in the book canon.

I don't know. For some reason it seems like an error to me. Bilbo didn't seem to be on good enough terms with the dwarves at that time to teach them such a lively song. He did get along okay with Bofur, but it just still seems weird to me.

There is also a possibility of Bilbo having been comfortable enough to teach Bofur the song, but had not at all expected him to choose to sing it in such a refined place. x3 hence the discomfort.
Though it is also possible that PJ simply threw the song in for the heck of it, as you said. FOTR never determines exactly WHEN Bilbo writes that song...
In the book, they did say that the Company bonded some in the first stretches of their journey, but this is the movie... hmm. We can't be entirely sure by this point. :P
