What is a Solkon?
Solkons are fox-like furry creatures that take pride in their fluffy manes on their necks and long tails. They usually dwell in cold habitats, such as the tundra or snow forest. Their diet consists of berries, plants, fruits and other small mammals and rodents. Solkons also have sharp teeth and claws that are usually keep unsheathed and are used to grab a hold of prey. They are believed to be evolved from lions and foxes, slowly developing traits from both species. Solkons all have whiskers – a trait that can never be bred out of DNA. Tufted hair is extended from their ears, similar to that of a lynx.

Short story: Meerico was quite silly when he was young. One day on the streets of Paris (His name isn't a french knock-off, his name is a play of a boy's in my class) he was wandering about and got in the way of a painter. His fur was turned from it original colour to to that.
