"No, Alanna, stay with us!" Luke exclaimed desperately, pressing the towel to her wound to staunch the bleeding. "Alanna, please, you can't leave us!"

Alanna stayed there, lifeless. Kris sobbed, holding her grandmother close. "No! Come back," she begged.

Luke bit his lip, staying strong for his wife. "Kris," he said, loosening his grip on the towel. "It's no use...she's gone."

Kris sobbed. "No! She has to come back," she whimpered.

"Kris, look at me." Luke's eyes searched her face. As much as he wanted to cry, he couldn't. Not in front of Kris, not right now. She needed him, and he would not break down in her time of need.

Kris looked at him but never let go of Alanna. "I cant leave her."

"I'm not asking you to leave her. But you have to calm down right now. The emergency officials are on their way." Luke's eyes searched her face.

Kris looked at him, still sobbing. "Why her?"

"I don't know, baby." Luke swallowed hard and looked down at Alanna, then back up at Kris.

Kris sighed ans hugged her body closer. "She was the closest thing to mom and dad."
