Faux (fō) are mammals that closely resemble a fox; however, they are no where near alike. Faux were genetically engineered to look exactly like foxes, and have softer, shinier fur. Their purpose was to serve as a fox fur replacement in order to end poaching. It worked for a while but soon their genetic makeup began to change. Faux began to mutate and lose their fox fur coloration and began to gain brighter, more vivid colors. In addition to a colorful coat, Faux began to gain more mutations, ranging anywhere from hair to wings and everywhere in-between. Seeing as the experiment failed, Faux were released into the wild, believing that their mutations would cause them to die off. Instead they multiplied. Today, Faux are highly adaptable, able to live in cities, forests, and even domesticated. Will you adopt one?
Mutations:: Mutations are one of the only ways to distinguish a faux from a fox. Faux can have any type of unnatural mutation, though the most common are bright colors. Other known mutations are hair tufts, large ears, two tails, and glowing pigments, with other mutations yet to be discovered. A naturally colored faux with no visible mutations is virtually unheard of, and can only be identified through genetic testing and bone structure. Mutations pass on to children.
Diet:: Faux diet consists of… anything considered edible. Faux are omnivores that take a special interest in sweets (such as fruits) and salts (such as meats).Domesticated Faux will eat anything they can find in the fridge or cabinets.
Aging:: Faux age irregularly due to their mutation. They grow slowly as kits, then rapidly out of teen-hood. For rp purposes, kits will be babies for three months and teens for one before reaching their adult stage.
Breeding and Kits:: Due to Faux mutation, breeding is hard with complications. Kits have a one in three chance of still birth. Kits that
are born either inherit their parents' dominant mutant genes or get a completely new mutation through recessive genes.
Size:: Exact to that of a fox, though they can be larger or smaller if a mutation is present. Kits are about the size of rabbits, teens are the size of house cats, and adults are the size of full grown foxes.
