Adelaide Maci - Post 6

➳ Adelaide applied pressure to the wound and forced her arm to go rigid, hoping that would help some until she could get back to her hovel and get some cloth strips. As she heard the delayed response of the attack from Kai, she honed in on it, as it was muttered rather softly, and she rolled her eyes. She'd bared witness to many skeptical occurrences before, but she had to admit that this was something... different. But this guard stating the obvious of the situation wasn't going to help anything.

Addie, getting to her feet fully once more, watched as the assassin strode up to her from across the expanse of dirt, his hands bound around the hilts of his double-melee blades. What angered her even more was the grin crawling up his lips. How arrogant. Not like she hadn't seen that in most men or fences that she had consulted or even stumbled upon before. But the fact that really made her jaw set was that he was actually amused by her actions. So what if once in a while you have a bad day? She had been caught before, but the usual people she was cornered by were either drunks who had seen her wanted posters, after the reward for her capture, or simple-minded guards who had way too much armor, slowing them down to the point where she could slip away.

The thief listened carefully to Kai's proposal, and actually found the common sense in his observations for once. She usually relied on instinct and hunches more so than forethought knowledge, which was a major flaw of hers, but it did seem tempting for her to not be arrested. "Stolen goods? I have no more on me," she replied, looking down to her belt. "Oh, wait." She pulled out a small velvet coin purse that she had snatched from a nearby tavern. Her hands went to unlatch the clasp at the top, and she held it up for him to see the few little morsels of food, including berries and maybe one gold coin inside. "If crackers are your idea of something justly to turn in, here," she chided with a sly smile, latching the bag back up and throwing it at his boots.

Kai watched the thief with interest. It seemed that the only things she had on her were either in the pouch on Kai's own belt, snagged by the leopardess, or stored in a small pouch that she now held. His smirk disappeared as he heard her speak. While he hated criminals thoroughly, he didn't like to kill people without warrant. Stealing didn't justify death, unless you stole a large amount. What this woman had was next to nothing. As the bag landed at his feet, he picked it up and stared at it. Shaking his head, he did what he did before he had time to think it through- he tossed the bag back towards her. "If that's all you have, I'm nearly robbing you by asking for it. Just don't cross paths with me again. I won't be so kind next time."

Quick as a wink, he shifted and turned on the spot. Kai launched himself into motion as he made his way back towards the envoy. He had never let a criminal go before, but these were very strange circumstances. Besides, he had managed to retrieve the pouch that the Lady lost, which made him happy. If anyone asked, she managed to evade him while he stopped to retrieve the Lady's parcel. Before he knew it, he could see the road before him again. The envoy had moved a bit, but he caught up quickly. This time, he shifted back before the horses caught sight of him.

Moving at a fast walk, he caught sight of the Lady on a horse now. He moved up next to her and cleared his throat. "Milady, I retrieved your pack." He reached behind him and grabbed the pack from his belt, holding it out for her to take.

Val started, the voice pulling her from memories of her room, with its soft bed and plethora of books. "What?" Val asked, looking around. Her gaze landed on the man she'd seen earlier. He had her bag? But- oh. Val smiled brightly. he must be a shifter! "Oh, thank you! I don't know what I would have done without it!" Val looked around, as if there was something she could give him. "There must be something I can give you in return, right?" she asked, a tad nervous. She owed the dark-haired stranger now. The odds were large he'd take money, and there wasn't much else Val could give him. She hadn't brought much with her on the trip besides cash; the expectations being she would buy what she needed once in Istoth.

The town was really just a shabby part of the main city, but most nobles pretended the South District didn't exist. Which suited Dorian just fine, really. There weren't many places a mage could walk unnoticed, but all Dorian needed to blend in was a dark brown cloak. He looked around, finding the small building with relative ease. Its otherwise plain front was colored by bright yellow daises growing by the door; a touch most people ignored. Stepping up to the front door, Dorian tapped his fist on the shaky wood. Mumbled curses and thumps echoed from inside, and the door opened with a creak, revealing the wide-eyed stare of hungry children. Sighing, Dorian pushed his way inside. Past the silent boy and into the kitchen, Dorian set a loaf of bread, hunk of cheese and large flask of cider down on the table.
"Sorry kid," Dorian muttered, "That's all I can afford for your mum right now." Mum, also known as Hattie Lewis, was the 17 year-old younger sister of Dorian, and desperate for a job. He was working on the castle cook for a position, but that took time. All he could do for now was keep his sister and her son from starving.
Dorian stepped into the afternoon sunlight, sighing. Visits to his sister always depressed him. Shaking off the aura of gloom, Dorian grinned. The Seulghem nobles were arriving today, which meant a banquet was a guarantee. So distracted by thoughts of roast venison and cake, Dorian failed to notice the young lady in front of him until he smacked into her. She went sprawling, and Dorian swore.
"Sorry!" He exclaimed, getting down one knee. He extended a hand to the woman, offering her his assistance. "I wasn't paying attention at all. Need a hand?"

A slight grin tugged at the corners of his mouth at the Lady's reaction. It was very obvious that she was glad, and that made Kai happy as well. Sure, they were from the other kingdom, but he hated the kingdom. Some of the people in it were bad, sure, but so were people in Istoth. This Lady was very kind and it was a shame that she was not an inhabitant of his own kingdom. At the mention of giving him something, he held up a hand. "It is not necessary, Milady. Let me escort you to the castle. I would be very glad if you could simply try to solve the matter peacefully."

At the mention of the conflict, Kai's small smile disappeared. He turned his eyes forward once more, though he glanced sidelong up at Valoria for a moment before speaking again. "How rude of me. My name is Kai Saunders." Though she probably wouldn't remember him, it was rude to not tell a lady your name. He nodded at her as he spoke. "May I have yours?"

Elizabeth was making her way out of the village when a man smacked into her. She felt her feet leave the ground and her butt took their place. Grunting, her hood had fallen back, revealing a braid of blonde hair. The young girl almost rolled her eyes, but instead blew her bangs out of her face. Quickly, she grabbed at her collar bone, making sure her necklace wasn't visible. Thank fully, it was hidden by the clasp of her cloak.

"Quite alright, thank you," she murmured in response, her voice rather mature and smooth for her age, even a bit low pitch. Getting up, she brushed the back of her cloak off, lifting her hood back up. Since her necklace hadn't shown, she now had to worry about whether or not this man would question what had been revealed; her sword and daggers that were strapped around her belt, along with three small bags of coins. On the bright side, she had left her quiver and bow with Aiden. The fall had caused her cloak to whip back, showing everything she had on her being.

Wrapping her cloak back around her quickly, Elizabeth began to turn. "I bid thee farewell, sir," she added hastily. She realized she hadn't even looked at the man. For all she knew, he could be a guard, well, a strangely kind guard that is. But still, she wished to have no trouble today nor stir up the village if she had to fight her way out. They were having it bad enough as is.

K'Joor
job :; huntress
species :; khajit
where :; her camp
under rule of :; istoth
doing :; moving
with :; elizabeth, dorian
The Khajit ate her small meal, and then started to pack up. She knew they would be after her, especially the Nomad. K'Joor had learned Nomads were not the friendliest people on the earth, more into stealing your stuff and running away. The feline humanoid put out her fire, packed her very few things, and tossed her sheep skin cot on her huge black Shire's back over the saddle. The Khajit left no sign she was ever there, except a few ashes and hoof prints from Turk. The Shire tossed his head, chomping angrily on the bit with the extra weight though it was very light. K'Joor swung herself onto the horse's back and kicked at his sides making him shoot forward into a canter, his neck arched nicely and his mane flying all over the place. A few strides and they were on the main road, where the feline wanted to be. She yanked the reins up, Turk rearing and striking the air, neighing. Everybody looked at her when she entered the Istoth kingdom, her hood covering most of her face though her pink nose and muzzle showed in the hot sun. Though leather armor was light and comfortable, it sucked in the sun and made you sweat as though you had been running miles, which she had done this morning to find the deer, and handle Turk. Being a Khajit, the sun was even hotter to them than other people, wit the extra fur and all. K'Joor tightened her grip on the reins as she halted the stallion near a general store and tied him up. She had no time to dry and cook the meat, and it would go bad other wise, so she had to sell it now and get some coins to buy arrows which she desperately needed. The feline sneaked into the store quickly, her ears laid back against her hood through the ear holes. I have deer meat, and I want money in return. K'Joor said, as the store manager looked up at her, and smirked. "I have heard many tales of Khajit, but I never thought I would meet one face-to-face." The store manager said as he took K'Joor's bags of meat and weighed them, handing her money in return. The Khajit slipped out of the store, and walked to the Blacksmith. She use half of her money to buy 2 more quiver-worth arrows, and used the rest to buy supplies, like oats for Turk, a dagger, some spices and stuff for preserving meat. K'Joor got out of the Istoth kingdom, and ventured off farther down the road at a brisk trot a top Turk, who was eat his oats in his feedbag. The Khajit female halted the Shire, sniffing the air. She could smell humans up the road, which made her on instinct grab her bow and arrow in one hand while the other she steered Turk towards them. Sure enough, there was a girl and a boy, both looked like travelers like herself. The Khajit paid no attention to them, and put her bow and arrow back, keeping her head low, though you could see her ears and tail. K'Joor said nothing to them, only slowing Turk to a fast walk.

"Valoria Perry, but you can call me Val since it's shorter." The redhead smiled brightly, her green-grey eyes twinkling. finally, someone to talk to! "And I'm sure there's something I can get you, right?" Val pretended to ponder the idea, stroking her chin in the pantomime of a beard. "Whatever. I'm sure I'll think of something later." She shrugged, looking down at Kai. He seemed nice enough. Simple -but not drab- clothes and two swords sheathed in his belt. Perhaps a guard of sorts? But then why would he be alone? And then there was the question of uniform. The details didn't add up, so Val gave up trying to guess. "So are you a guard? Or simply a well-armed peasant?" She didn't mean it in a negative way, but was simply curious.

Dorian blinked at the girl's choice of accessory -she was better armed than him- and simply stood up. The young woman -Dorian still couldn't guess her age- looked to be in her late teens, but her manner of bearing and smooth voice added years. Frowning, Dorian the brushed dust off his cloak, hurrying to catch up to the young woman. She had re-placed her hood, clearly wishing to fade into the crowd, but Dorian wasn't to be deterred. Un-knighted he may be, the mage still possessed some pride.
"Wait up!" Dorian called, catching up to the woman easily. "I didn't quite catch your name. I'm Dorian," he introduced, smiling amiably. "Surely I can help you with something?"

Kai nodded as she introduced herself. Valoria was a beautiful name. Judging by the fact that she didn't ride side-saddle and had a masculine nickname, she was a no-nonsense tomboy. Kai tended to like strong women. Even in her short time here, he hoped to become a friend of hers. Besides, during the meetings, he would have to remain close to the Istoth family for protection anyway. There were those that would see this treaty destroyed. Val seemed very determined to get him something, so he just smiled good-naturedly and dropped the subject.

At Val's question, he glanced back up at her. Removing his hood, he smiled a bit. "I am a Royal Guard. I do secretive, one-man missions, guard duty for the Royal family directly, and other miscellaneous errors such as this. While they didn't actually assign me to this, I'm rather glad that I took up the job myself." While it was hard to see, a very small crest of Istoth was sewn onto the back of his gloves. While most chose to wear either fully fingered or fingerless gloves, his only had no fingers on his first two fingers and thumb.

Val brightened at Kai admittance. Although Val had no stomach for fighting, let alone the ability to wield a weapon, she'd always been fascinated with combat. The way battle resembled a dance had never lost it's wonder for the small redhead. "Well, I'm glad as well," Val replied, a thoughtful look in her eyes. "I'd've been at a loss right now if it weren't for you." Val glanced at the sun, glad for her hat's wide brim that kept the light from burning her face.
"So you were just out enjoying the sunshine?" she asked. "Or is the nice weather expected in Istoth? We have nice days in Seulghem -don't think it's all grey clouds and stormy weather- but everything seems brighter here. Then again, I don't get out much, so maybe it's just me," Val wondered, half to herself. Prior to her departure, Val had read all the books she could concerning Istoth, but most of the tomes in the Palace were on the battle that conspired between the countries, not their culture, which had made real information scarce. Coming back from her tangent into the past few days, Val blushed.
"I'm rambling, aren't I?"
