Ethel admired his hair when he took of his hat, his quiff was a piece of art. She listened patiently at his talk about the sky. Sitting up with him simultaneously. "Hmm, I guess I see how it could be intresting, but I like psycology and such. When I was little, instead of getting teen pop magazines, I ordered magazines about phycology. Literally a little, ten year old me reading magazines about how minds work." She looked up at the sky as he motioned to the shooting star. She was sure that they were the only ones at the party that noticed it, do to all the smoke in the air and the drinks. Her eyes followed it, before turning to gaze at Jacob, her eyes studying his face. She no longered cared if he noticed her, quite obviously checking him out. Her eyes scanned out the hollow between his lips and chin, the jaw bone that lined his chin, the steady curve of his nose. She flicked her head back towards the sky for a secpnd before huffing and falling back to the grass. Crossing one knee over the other knee.

Chase returned her smile, dorky wasn't usually something he got called very often and he felt slightly confused over whether to take the comment as a compliment or an insult. He shrugged, he didn't care, she seemed to like the fact that he was 'dorky' so all was well. As she placed her hands onto his shoulders, Fhase moved his hands and gently wrapped his arms around her waist. As they both swayed to the music, Chase could feel his foor tapping the beat. Hearing her comment, he raised an eyebrow slightly, he didn't need to seem cool. He already was cool, half the girls in the school wanted him and half the guys wanted to be like him. Chase could dance naked with a hippo and people would still think that he was cool. He had to admit that when it came to dancing, he really had two left feet and he was probably the worst dancer of all time. Her comment got his mind thinking again, he had a reputation to keep and always had to do things that people looked up to. Sure, flirting with every girl was what he was known for. He wasn't really sure of Miri's reputation in the school, was she the type of girl that he could benefit from flirting with? He shook his head slightly to clear his mind, this didn't matter now. He was at a party and this was surprisingly fun. After a while, his feet stated moving in sync with the music and his his hips were swaying to the beat. Chase smiled at her "You know, dancing isn't really that bad, still not my best skill but it's a good way to make friends and have a bit of fun isn't it?"

She grinned as he got the hang of it. "Right? Not so bad at all. You're getting better at this dancing thing," she complimented. Miri was having fun, and her usually sense of outsider awkwardness had faded almost completely. Dancing with this jock she barely knew, ruining her shoes, and skipping her studies t go to some teenager party was unlike her, but it was quickly growing on her. She wondered about Chase, about whether he was genuinely like this or putting on some act. She felt bad for mentally accusing him of such a thing, but she just didn know him all that well. Though as they laughed on the dance floor together, she knew she would like to know more.

Without waiting for an answer, the skater boy shoved his hands in his loose pockets and walked back into the party. His favorite girl to tease just to get a rise out of her and some dumb jock he barely knew. He couldn't fight the feeling of wanting to mess with them. "Aw man, I gotta..." He snickered and maneuvered his way to the dance floor and got behind Chase, then "accidentally" shoved him with his elbow.

Chase smiled, he could see that Miri was starting to enjoy herself more and was relaxing around him. "Yeah, I'm now a man of many talents!" he smile softly "I still won't be a better dancer than you though..." Feeling a jab in his spine, Chase stumbled forwards slightly, tripping over his own feet and bashed into Miri. He could barely dance at all and some idiot jabs him in the back, he felt slightly emabrrassed ,a jock like him wasn't supposed to trip like that over a tiny jab... He quickly steadied himself and caught hold of Miri "Hey you alright? I hope I didn't hurt you..." Chase turned around to face another boy standing behind him and his eyes became cold as he glared at him. "Hey watch what you're doing!" he said in a slightly angry tone, he was fighting down the urge to be more aggressive for Miri's sake. Judging by what he was wearing, Chase gathered that he was probably one of the skaters. He had seen him around school before, his name was something like Tom or Timmy... Tommy? Yeah, that was it. "You need to be careful around her! Don't just go jabbing people in the back!"

"I'm fine," Miri huffed and scowled over Chase's shoulder at Tommy, who had a smug grin on his face. "You did that on purpose, Tommy!" she accused and put her hands on her hips. "Do you have to be such a jerk all the time?" Tommy was someone who enjoyed constantly picking on her. He found it hilarious to come up behind her in the library and spook her or slam all her books shut. Tommy absolutely infuriated her, but he would always just grin like he was having loads of fun and never stop.

He was about to call him a meat-head but Chase looked pretty upset with Tommy, making him only more pleased.

Chase saw the smug expression on Tommy's face and his eyes blazed with rage. The heavy sarcasm in Tommy's voice didn't help the situation either and as soon as Chase heard the insult, he couldn't help but feel slightly stung by the remark. "What's your problem? Can't you just spend one day without harassing people and ruining their lives you little jerk?" Chase stepped away from Miri slightly and faced Tommy "Anyway, beat it or I might just accidentally hurt you..." Chase closed his eyes for a few seconds and told himself to calm down, judging by his arrogant expression, Tommy was getting the exact reaction that he wanted from him. Chase swallowed his anger and calmed himself slightly, the comment about having two left feet had stung, he had never been able to dance and for once he had been feeling quite good about it.

Miri stepped forward and put a hand comfortingly on Chase's shoulders while she kept her eyes on the skater boy. "Don't listen to this jackweed, Chase," she murmured to Chase and narrowed her eyes at Tommy. She had known the boy for several years, and they never got along well. It had always been like this and she would get annoyed just by looking in his direction. "Do you have to be so unbelievably unpleasant all the time?" she said harshly to Tommy. "Just get out of here!" Miri waved her hand as if to shoo him and turned to face Chase with her back to Tommy.

Chase frowned again as he saw what Tommy did and he pulled Miri away from him and stepped between the two of them "Just leave her alone." He glared at Tommy "Pick on me, fine. But don't mess with her. Aren't you a gentleman at all?" Chase was ready to defend Miri, he did always play around with the girls and he liked to flirt but the strange thing was he didn't like other guys mistreating or picking on girls but then again, how was him leading them on an then telling them that he didn't actually love them any better than that? He had a reputation to keep, that's all. He had transferred schools for a new life and a new identity, he had shown everyone that he was a heart breaking, arrogant jock and that reputation he now had to upkeep. He couldn't just let his more sympathetic and kinder side come out... That was his weaker side, his soft spot. He had worked so hard to be popular in this school, he wasn't going to go back to being a nerd like he was in his old school. Chase pointedly turned his back on Tommy and faced Miri, "Well, I suppose I should have guessed that a moment like that would have to be ruined somehow..."

"Gentleman? I'm more of a 'gentleman' then you, Mr. Heartbreaker," Tommy said trying to keep his joking tone up, but the comment had actually made him angry. He'd seen jocks go from girl to girl without any thought to their feelings or reactions. He couldn't even count how many ex-girlfriends they all had put together. He glanced at Miri with slitted eyes and huffed. He thought she would for sure be the next victim of a jock's uncaring nature. As far as he was concerned, they were all the same jerks. At least Tommy had never broken hearts unreasonably.

Miri gave Chase a wak apologetic smile and put a hand on the side of his neck comfortingly. "Well, no night is perfect," she murmured with a small laugh, trying to ignore Tommy. She heard Tommy's comment and huffed. "Just ignore him, Chase. He's trying to piss us off." And it was kind of working. She knew every jock's general reputation for being uncaring, arrogant, heart-breaking jerks, but Chase seemed a bit different to her. He seemed a little softer and like he wasn't just trying to get in her pants. Miri hoped she was right about Chase. She guessed so much about people, and although she has good instincts for that sort of thing, it would be unfortunate if she was wrong.

Chase bit his lip to stop himself shooting back another angry, and possibly rude, retort. Tommy was right, he was one of the famous heart breakers around the school and wasn't any more of a gentleman than Tommy. Still with his back to Tommy, Chase just simply ignored him and smiled at Miri when he felt her comforting hand on the side of his neck. He raised his own hand and put it on top of hers, squeezing it slightly, "Yeah, I really shouldn't let anything distract me or piss me off should I now?" he smiled playfully "I need to focus all my attention on you and I can't do that if there's some annoying little person getting to me..."
