Favourite HP book and why:
The Goblet of Fire
There are many reasons why this book was my favorite out of all of them. To me it was more unique, because we got a chance to explore other magical schools thus we finally know that hey there is more to all this sorcery than Hogwarts. The characters from the different schools were so fleshed out, and the curiosity and tension it spreads through Hogwarts is pretty awesome. Even though I don't watch the Olympics, I relate these actions to it, because again it's the whole exploring a culture that you were not aware of. It brings the world closer or in this case the magical world. That is the overall spread of why this book is in my favorite spot, but it goes deeper of course.
The next reason would be the games, and how Harry's name was mysteriously chosen out of the hat. So not only is this book focusing on a completely new aspect of meeting other magical schools, we have the "who done it?" question to keep us on our feet. The anger tossed at Harry as we pitied him, the confusion and bitterness of Ron his own best friend turning against him out of jealousy. There was just so much emotion going on from a simple slip of paper. But, we go onto the games. Not only are these games full of excitement they literally are dangerous altogether. The first was was getting the golden egg from a dragon, and these were amazing dragons! Ferocious and cunning something you did not want to mess with, and boy did Harry get the mother of all dragons on his tail, the Hungarian Horntail. This personally was my favorite event, but the other two were quite awesome as well. The underwater one, just like the gold egg kept us on our seat as we wondered how Harry would make it through it. It's pretty awesome when he learns how to get gills. And of course there is the maze as the final task.
Now we had already been introduced to Cedric a few times a nice fellow, and fellow competitor of Harry. Cedric was originally the chosen one from Hogwarts to compete in the games. While in the maze they were able to aid each other. Cedric, true to his Hufflepuff traits of kindness, patience, and loyalty, agreed that Harry and himself would go out with a tie. This scene was one of the most heartbreaking scenes in a book I have ever read personally. I wasn't expecting it, I was happy to see the traits of these two characters together working together. Then in an instant Cedric was dead. While the book captured this seeing the movie intensified the sadness, confusion and anger from Harry all at once as we could hear the complete devastation that had happened. Then during his battle with Voldemort, Cedric still loyal, appears with Harry's parents to help him still.
Just the overall emotion and events in this book are what really caught my attention. Yes the other books had it, but this one was just special. And of course Cedric was a great character that did not get enough time in the Harry Potter world in my opinion =C
