Kestrelclaw blinked in surprise at Foxcloud's confession, but his shocked expression quickly changed into a friendly smile. "Well, 'least you're honest!" he mewed good-naturedly. "I like you a lot too, Foxcloud, but...not in the same way that you do me. See, I've kinda got my eyes on another she-cat already, and, well..." He trailed off, looking down at his paws. "But you're still a great friend an' all! I don' wantcha to think that I don't care about you, 'cause I do. We can hang out and have fun just the same, right?"

Milkflower followed at a brisk pace. "Do you know exactly where we're going, or are we only wandering deeper into the forest without any knowledge of what lies ahead?" she asked, unknowingly sounding much more dramatic than she had intended.

"Well," Maplefur said, "I guess I'm trying something new, nobody ever really goes this deep into the forest, so there might be more prey! Also, it's not so wet out here." he really didn't know what lied ahead, but he tried to act brave as he entered the dark, shadowy forest.
