Scarlet smiled as he shoved past her- she did so love getting him to show his anger- and then the redhead sat herself down daintily on the leather couch, crossing one leg over the other. She appraised the two boys when they were too busy playing alpha male to notice. Drew was the powerful one, definitely. Like, first of all, he actually had a power, and second of all, he was ruthless, did what had to be done. She didn't think Mars was that cold- no one who'd lost their sibling in that way could be. Or at least that's what Miss Single Child thought. Mars hated Drew, maybe as much if not more as Scarlet did. That was interesting. Even more interesting was the fact that Mars was carrying a gun. Scarlet had no doubts that if he took that out right now and shot Drew, she wouldn't lift a finger to help. Mars also hated her, of course, so she'd have to move quickly, maybe try to drown the boy with the water in the dispenser. She realized, then- she was constantly thinking up an escape plan when she was with the two of them, in case one of them turned on her. If that wasn't the most unhealthy friendship she'd heard of...

xxxShe looked up with a smirk as Drew addressed her directly. She stood again, leaving her blazer on the couch but taking her tote. It wouldn't do for Mars or Drew to find her file, after all. Some of the records in that brown folder were downright embarrassing. She bent forward slightly in a mock curtsy to Drew, fixing her eyes on his with a thin smile. "Oh, no, babe, don't you worry about me. I'll make sure all your minions are working well." She looked over at Mars as the dark haired boy mentioned her, and for the first time a confused frown pulled at her features. Mars was acting as if he'd figured her out, and from what he'd said... maybe he had. She shrugged, though, getting rid of the thought almost physically, and looked back at Drew with a malicious sparkle in her eye. "Remember our conversation, Drew."

With those few cryptic words she turned to follow Mars out of the room, but the girl from earlier blocked her way as she entered through the door, glaring at Scarlet. Scarlet smiled blithely back; making people feel inferior was her favourite thing to do. "Good afternoon, Amanda." Her voice was thick with a friendliness she didn't feel, and she winked at Drew before moving around the girl, fixing her tote bag on her shoulder and going to rally the groups, or whatever. First, though, there was the delightful pastime of annoying Mars. "Hey, Mars, try not to seriously injure anyone. I know that's hard for you, you little psychopath, but I'm sure you can find some intelligent thought in that mindless, Drew-adoring brain of yours." Her heels sounded nice as she walked down the stairs behind him- powerful.

Amanda sighed, not really annoyed at his snappy reaction. It wasn't a big deal or anything. She just felt tired now. Office work? She cringed slightly at the suggestion. how boring. But she honestly didn't want to do 'dirty work', so it'd have to do. She smiled brightly, it was fake, but it was bright. "Oh, uh, sure! That sounds like fun." She laughed that silly high school preppy cheerleader laugh, still twirling a piece of hair around her finger. Suddenly, she dropped the act, looking at him with a slight glare. "Tell me, Drew. What are you planning, really? Who are you really, Drew? Drop the act for once around me. I don't believe it." She frowned, crossing her arms. She was tired of what she thought might be an act, and wanted the truth from him. What was he hiding from her? WHy was he pretending to be nice? She hated people who were deceitful toward her, and she could tell that that was what he was doing. She felt tired of all of this and just wanted to go to sleep. but didn't feel like she could without getting stabbed in the back or something.

Karsten wasn't very far away form the girl, and completely leaving the boy behind, he instead initiated his inner 'hero' and suddenly scooped her up. Her feet flopping around, Karsten ran with her in his arms, stomping through a few muddy puddles from a few days ago, when it water drizzled from light grey clouds. But now it was different. Thunder rang in the air, and lightening shot throughout the property, some so close to them that the static sparked through his now frizzy, fluffy hair. Bullenbeisser barked and growled in inspiration, occasionally nipping the air and jumping around like a maniac near the front porch.

The large house, a dark-scarlet red with a front and back porch, with a swing set in the back yard and a mile down the road, a small ranch. The poor horses, probably terrified and shaking, but now wasn't the time to worry about them. The only goal right now was to make it in to shelter alive. Karsten flung himself onto the wooden-made porch, and opened the glass door, connected to the porch, to safety. Bullenbeisser struggled to squeeze in between the two. The screen door slammed behind them, and they closed the glass door, making sure not to latch it. The boy panted, and gently, yet a bit manic, set the Youtuber on the couch. Inside the kitchen and living room were open, so one could walk into the kitchen and still talk to one another. They weren't separate rooms. There in the living room was a large screen-TV, a lazy-boy, and a somewhat long, comfortable dark brown couch. The living room was carpeted, while the rest of the house, not including bedrooms, had tile.

The halls and bathrooms were constructed to be a bit bigger, just in case of if they had sold the house, a handicapped adult or child were to live in the home. Karsten turned to the girl, blinking a few times. "That gate costed $24,000 to build in." He mentioned, looking out the transparent door and seeing it gimped up and tilted forwards, with a slight dent in the right side. The other boy managed to flee form the vehicle and make it inside, and Karsten slammed close the two doors. He turned on the lights and threw a bottle of water at the two, and told them that downstairs was emergency food and water. "Call me Karsten." He simply included, getting way too annoyed at everybody calling him... Nazi.

Amanda felt a shiver go down her spine at his cold expression and voice, and at how close he leaned towards her. Why didn't she trust him? Maybe she should. But she had always had trust issues. "You don't get to understand me, Drew. No one does. I'm a very tightly closed book, and i open for no one." She smiled slightly. weakly. "Don't talk to me about honesty. Because all you've done to me is lie. Maybe i'm wrong, but then again maybe i'm not. Look at yourself, Drew. Look at what people see you as. They see you as a power hungry dictator who can't be trusted. Give me one reason why i can trust you, then maybe i will." She frowned, crossing her arms and leaning against the wall, staring into his eyes as he stared into hers. He had all their files? No no. She couldn't let him read that file. "Y-you.. you wouldn't read that file." Would he? He couldn't read that. It was important that he didn't. Maybe not all of the information on her was documented in there, but enough of it was. "Why would you want me to be your ally, Drew? There is no reason for you to trust me either. Why don't you team up with that snotty preppy girl, Scarlet? You two seem to be… cozy." She frowned a little more deeply, her eyes narrowing slightly. She didn't want to trust him. Would she have to to survive? Or would she just end up getting hurt? "If you don't want to be the boss, then why don't you prove that to me? You've done nothing so far to show me that. all of this, all that you're doing, it's a front, Drew! I can tell when people are lying. Why? Because i'm so good at it myself. I lie and cheat to get my way, to show others i'm not weak. I've never opened up to anyone in my entire life! I don't trust anyone anymore! Anyone that i did trust is gone now, and i'm all alone! There is no one left who cares about me at all." She hated to admit it, but she could feel the tears pooling in her eyes.

Mars cantered down the stairs in long, lanky strides, until he caught Scarlet’s shrill voice. He came to slow down by the bottom of the steps, because why not? Playing with Scarlet was fun; especially when they both knew what she had at stake. He turned, a grin plastered to his handsome face. “See, the reason I killed my shrink was because he was way too talkative for his own good,” he crossed his arms, shaking his head in a sad mock. “Woke me up in the middle of the night, memories of that doctor. Mmm-mm.” But then his face overcame a look of pure glee.
“Aw, now I see…” His arm shot out to block her way, revealing the Celtic cross on his forearm and a powerful bicep. He instantly felt the intensity spike in the room between them. He liked the feeling.
“You like me, don’t you, Scarlet?” He asked, genuinely interested. “You like our relationship? Is that why you trail me like a dog? It’s got to be. Or, that you think I’m attractive,” he wiggled his eyebrows at that, and seeing the disgust and hate, he laughed down at her. “Because I don’t think it’s your good-natured self that cries for humor.”
Despite his taunting smile, despite the playfulness, they both knew what lay under that. That the brutal, calm, calculated Scottish boy had it all planned: how Drew would go down. How afterward, he’d have his nice time with Scarlet. What the two devotees had wasn’t more than just a cat-and-mouse game between them, a momentarily diversion from the real battle ahead. And after all of that transpired, it was going to be him—him, Mars—that everybody looked to for help. Because he had it all planned.
Mars was sick of Drew; of his charm and good-natured speeches; of how the guy used that to overcome obstacles of dictatorship. He hated that. He hated that people like that abused their power and took from the less fortunate. It was exactly what Jessup had done to him and Mattie. And he wanted revenge for it. And it wasn’t that Mars was telling himself he was a good guy by doing this: he wasn’t; he knew he was a bitter soul, but he really didn’t have a problem with it—if the only thing he got in the end was blood, he’d be fine. If it was only in vain.

Micah nodded respectfully and watched as Amanda took off to the Town Hall, disappearing behind the doors. She was kind enough; with a charming smile and such. But charm was deceptive and Drew wasn’t something he wanted to get into. Maybe she was working for him. Maybe they were all going to perish in this storm. But of all the maybes, there was also some hope—even though Micah wasn’t the type to be optimistic.
Of all his time being in the wrong groups, he knew when somebody was the bluffing sort and the true hearted one. And Drew Henderson was not the latter. He stood gazing calmly at the Town Hall building, its apex topped off with the American flag. It fluttered ever so slightly, and in the background, dark cumulus clouds began to rumble. He turned to his newly-founded friend.
“Jack,” he said solemnly. His face, covered in the perpetual grimness that continued to linger, turned serious. “There’s too many kids here.” He gestured around at kids who just aimlessly sauntered in the plaza. “We have to get kids in their basements, because the Town Hall basement isn’t going to fit everybody.” He caught sight of two Coates kids, who were holding trash bags. He waved them over and after a brief talk, took a handful of bags and tossed Jack duct tape a wad of plastic sheeting.
“We can at least go to the largest houses in town. Close up the windows; get a load of kids down into the basements.” The drunk glanced at the sky and smiled bitterly. “’Cause we don’t really a lot of time.”
With that, he started off in his converse down the road, knowing that Jack would soon follow.

Cassie was on the verge of hyperventilating. Not only was there a looming storm racing up behind them, but they were leaving Jessi and going to this creepy guy’s house—whom she didn’t know, by the way—to just “stake out.” Uh-huh. Dad had raised her on many hostage/serial killer movies to know the lies. This was probably one of them… but what choice did she have? She shrugged. But then again: the thought of Jessi. Jessi, a friend who was practically her sister; Jessi, with her temper and arrogance, who probably wouldn’t ever know the storm was about to hit her; Jessi, who was the closest thing she had to family right now.
The Youtuber was just about to bring the hobbling van into the driveway, when it plowed straight through the black Victorian fence. Her heart lurched and she let out a shriek, checking to see of Karsten noticed. He did.
“I’m so sorry!” She called out through the window; she did feel bad about it—not only had she broken the poor guy’s neck, but also now destroying private property. The blonde quickly shut her mouth and pulled up in the driveway, before turning the van off. She quickly hopped out and began explaining.
“Uh, well, um… Yeah. Okay. I just broke your fence.” She let out an airy laugh, as if she were going into shock. Running into people’s nice fences wasn’t one of her daily routines. How much was that going to cost? “Actually, the fence was already open…” she butted in. Then realized how pathetic it sounded. “After I, uh, I pried it open. Um…”
Thunder boomed behind her and she whirled, fury boiling in her cheeks. “Holy butterballs,” She shouted at the sky. “What do you want!?” It rumbled in defense and she stumbled back as lightning flashed down a mile away. “Oh gosh, the cloud’s trying to kill me… uh, run! Run! To the house! To the house, Nazi!”

Amanda shivered slightly when he gripped her arms, then wiped the tears off of her face. But she somehow felt relaxed. Should she trust him? Maybe she should. He sounded convincing enough. Maybe she would, but she'd keep her guard up. Just in case. "Why do you want to help me? if this was school you wouldn't look at me twice. i'm a nobody." She smiled a little more widely. "But.. you wouldn't let any of those townies hurt me, would you?" She smiled again, laughing slightly. They had to get to the basements of the houses. and fast. She looked out the window, flinching at the clouds and rain. "we have to hurry. Or we'll all die. I'm going to trust you, Drew. Make sure i don't regret it. You honesetly don't want to cross me. I've had... anger issues my whole life. Maybe i shouldn't be telling you this, but i am. So make me glad that i trusted you. Because i've been toyed with all my life and i'm sick of it." She frowned now. "I'm going to trust you now. Because you're the only thing close to a friend that i have." She sighed. She wanted so badly to trust someone, so she would trust him. She just hoped he wouldn't crush her in the end. "That's my decision, Drew. I will go with you and help you out."

Scarlet returned Mars' grin with a certain savage satisfaction, her heels still clicking on the wooden steps. She expected Mars' snippy, somewhat disturbing reaction- it was Mars- but she wasn't expecting him to block her way. She hit his arm with a slight 'oomph' sound, but quickly regained composure and walked backwards, up a few steps. Even now she could just about make eye contact with the boy- he was so annoyingly tall. She was considering smashing her forehead into his nose when he spoke again, and had to blink a few times to make sense of his words. Then she took a few seconds longer than usual answering. The pressure building in her jaw was beginning to grow painful again, and she couldn't think straight. "Oh, please, Mars, don't twist my actions to make you feel better about yourself." She smiled thinly and then the walls disappeared.

xxxShe lurched away from the wall and almost fell, clutching at the wooden stairs banister for support. The walls were back, but they were... throbbing. Thick black lines sprouted, seeming to come from underneath the wall. She tried to get breath, tried to figure them out. They were laid out in a straight value, looking almost like... pipes. Water pipes. The pressure was unbearable, and when she turned to look at Mars she almost screamed. The same thin black lines ran along the boy's skin- not even along it, underneath it. The redhead's eyes were too wide and too much white was showing, and she couldn't draw breath. Then, the lines on Mars' skin started calling to her. With an arm that wasn't hers she reached out and touched a line running along his cheek. Normal, non-crazy Scarlet screamed at her to stop, but she almost laughed as the line disappeared and strength leaked into her arm and the skin underneath her fingers grew dry and cracked. "Well, well, well, Mars."

Her voice wasn't exactly her own, and with one final push from both normal Scarlet and... whatever Scarlet this was, she reached out and grabbed the back of the dark-haired boy's neck. Intensity and something else glared from her eyes into his as she felt the water that made up 75% of the boy's body slowly evaporate, somehow dehydrate. "Don't you dare call me a dog, ever again. Don't you dare." She didn't want to lose the boy- how else would she get rid of Drew, eventually?- and so she let go of his neck with a gasp. The walls stopped throbbing and Scarlet blinked, energy and strength coursing through her veins. She just couldn't remember how the power happened, and she blinked questioningly at Mars.

She felt a sliver of hope flutter in her heart. He would protect her, keep her safe. Of course she could trust him. Right? She smiled. "Okay. I'm coming, don't worry." She smiled and shivered when she heard the scream, the one closer to them. She hesitantly took his hand, smiling more brightly now. "And i will be your ally. You can.. trust me." She sighed slightly, feeling worried. "We have to get everyone to safety. We have to hurry, people are getting hurt. Drew.. I'm scared. I don't want anyone else to get hurt." She felt scared. Terrified. This was one of the first times in her life that she was actually scared of something. She didn't want to see Drew lke this. He seemed nervous and actually looked scared. She wanted to help him, to protect him. What was going to happen to them? To everyone in the city. She wanted to keep them safe. She hated seeing people in pain.

Mars huffed a deep, husky laugh; seeing her cringe. Seeing her fear, of how she backed away in slightly stumbling steps. She was literally shaking in her heels. For a second, he enjoyed this. Enjoyed seeing this because it meant he had her wrapped around his finger, and there was nothing she could do about it. But then sense gave in. Sense that Scarlet was just some poor girl, at his mercy—and even though Mars wasn’t the type to give into mercy, he knew how it was like to be at somebody’s mercy. His haughty smile disappeared, falling away into the dimples in his cheeks. He let his arm hang loose.
“Let me tell you something, Scarlet,” he said coolly. He smirked. “You don’t scare me. You can try to hide your face in those designer shades and whatever else makes you feel safe—“ he slammed his hand surprisingly fast against the wall, once again blocking her way. His eyes went icy cold. “But all I see? You’re a little girl trapped in that bitter heart of yours.” The Scottish boy whispered. He leaned in, tauntingly so, but there was some kind of respectable line coming up between them. He wouldn’t hurt her. No. He wouldn’t. Not yet, anyway. As for any kids who got in his way, fine, they asked for it. But as for Scarlet… he wasn’t ready to strike.
He let his arm fall loose again by his side, and he was turning to go… when he flinched. Now. You have to understand something here: Mars McCotty never flinched. But pain, sickening dry pain, began bursting in his body. He didn’t double over; he didn’t start wailing. But he reached out, taking the wall for support. Every ounce of energy in his body seemed to just dry up. He looked up, his eyes a dizzying craze, and he stared at her with an intensifying hate. “Scarlet, you—“
She touched the back of his neck. He could feel her nails, raw and perfectly shaped, glossy in their fake texture; but that wasn’t what he felt the most. He felt pain. Pain that made him clench his jaw, try to fight it; but it was useless. It came at him, raging, and he could feel his skin, his organs—and if that wasn’t terrifying enough, then his brain—go dry. Utterly inexistent.
Then she removed her hand. And like that, he felt parts of him being restored. He let go of the wall after a moment, and finally looked down at her. In that lone, silent moment, there weren’t any words to explain what he was feeling or thinking. What went through his mind. Finally, after a long moment, he opened his mouth. “Pretty trick,” he said darkly. “But you still don’t have the dare in you to kill me, and that’s the only thing that makes us different: I’m more daring.” The gun tugged at his mind, wanting him to just grab it and shove it up against her face.
A Coates kid’s head poked out of the basement door, urgency in his expression. “We’re ready.” The freckly kid sniffled.
Mars didn’t turn his attention away from Scarlet. In his thumb-tapping habit of trying to think, his finger went still. “Alright. Listen, blossom. Next time you try to use your little power on me again?” He turned and took the steps down two at a time, his boots a soft weight against it. He went on walking to the door, before turning around and walking backwards. He flickered a smile. “I use mine.”
With that, the lanky, dark-haired boy trudged back out into the streets to begin getting kids to safety.

“I’m sorry!” She cried in defense. Her cheeks huffed their angry red color, something that was apparent when she and Mack argued over something as simple as Cassie declaring she was right. “I couldn’t control the wheel!” And then, feeling her little spiel pathetic, she motioned to Jared. “And don’t blame me, its Jared’s piece of junk!” Then she quickly added, due to Jared’s constant correction of reforming her father, “Vintage junk, yeah, I know, Jared!”
She began running then, seeing the rain not ten yards away, before being literally hauled in mid air. She cried out, in shock, and realized a second later that Karsten… was carrying her? “A little dramatic, don’t you—?“ Thunder boomed, drowning out her sarcasm, and all she could do was hide her face away from the insane storm washing their way. But like it or not, this would have to do. At least she didn’t have to run far…
Inside, he set her down and instantly she scrambled to grab onto Jared’s sleeve and tug him in the house; it was an act performed just seconds before rain began splattering the lawn. She looked out, her eyes wide and showing too much white to make her eyes seem normal. She cast a long, suspicious look at the tall boy. “Thank you,” she said, quickly crossing her arms. Her shirt was still tattered, and if this guy had the wrong idea—
She let out a exasperated breath before lying back against the floor. She stared blankly up at the ceiling. A million thoughts ran through her head: Had Jessi even made it back? Did she know about the radiation? What about kids in town? Why did she have this broken tape in her hand? Was Kotka safe from the fallout? The blonde sat back up. Why did she have a gun on her?
That was the question that really bothered her. Cassidy Preston had never been into guns. Sure, her father, Mack, was part of a military division. And it wasn’t like she was some stuck up chick with a problem with firearms. She went hunting back in Arkansas, when Mack took her every deer season. But handling a gun just wasn’t her thing. Her thing was humor; comedy. Her thing was being somebody who didn’t really have to worry about things like these. But here she was: forced to grow up from her self-videos.
She cracked the water open and took a drink. After she wiped her mouth, she looked back up at Karsten. “If you haven’t been keeping track of latest events, my friend is out there and probably caught in the radiation, and you just casually say that you have food stocked up for some catastrophe like this to happen?” she cried. She gestured exaggeratedly outside. “What were you, a hermit waiting for 2012 to happen?!” She stared at him in a silence in which she tried to regain some anger. It failed, miserably. She took another drink, before remembering. “Oh, and listen, Karsten. If you do that again—pick me up like some guy in tights running around a play—I will go find a good whipping branch, wrap it in poison ivy, roll it in mistletoe, and then shove it up your tiny little—“
Thunder grumbled and she stopped. Then, sighing, she muttered, “You get my point.”
