"Your big mistake." Beinethiel scoffed and bit her lower lip in thought. The cell steel door was wide open and the healers looked like they couldn't fight much. As they were fixing her wounds she kept eyeing the cage door with a gleam in her eye. The she-elf waited until they were finished and got up to leave when she stood, grabbing the more strong looking healer by the hair and slammed his head against the metal bar of the cell. There was smack, crack, and groan. A determined smile played across the elf's lip as she dragged the other healer to her knees and kneed her jaw upwards. The last healer was staring at her wide-eyed, as if she was a god or something. After almost breaking the ending healer's neck with a twist of the neck she grabbed the bars above her and swung her feet outwards. Noticing that Leonidas had his hand upon his sword she thought fast and swung herself gracefully up to the top of the cells and swiftly ran down them. Beinethiel glanced back at Leo and winked lightly before jumping down from the cages and looked around for something use as a weapon. Finding a guards sword laying on a bench she grasped the extremely heavy piece of sloppily made sword. "Good gods. What kind of weapons does man make these days." She quick regained her balance and faced Leonidas, sword easily outwards.

She watched him with hatred. "Are you blind?" she questioned him, not bothering to tell him what else was on her. There was obviously her sword, quiver, bow, and at least two other knives on her belt somewhere. Sighing, she watched as she was once again bound. "I wouldn't of returned to live in Istoth happily, any way. I would of returned to make others lives happy," she mumbled, but more to herself than him.

Her voice had suddenly changed to one of sorrow, gazing blankly down the sewer. "I suppose I shall die here, however," she muttered bitterly, knowing that they well planned to take her to Istoth alive, however. The cell would kill her. Yes, the cell. Her claustrophobia was too strong for her to control and she knew that very well.

/derp post/ I kinda gave up on this. Had such a long day. -.- Thought I'd actually have time to live this week, but nope, got heaps of homework.

    ♕ A d e l a i d e M a c i
    Title;; Vagabond - Age;; 22 - Mood;; Fatigued - Tags;; None - Health/Stamina;; 100% - Weapon/s;; Dagger

➳ All that she could care to think about was running. Running, her best asset. Maybe that was why she thought of herself as a coward. Running until she couldn't run anymore, but it came into play more importantly with her current bind. The young nomad scolded herself as she fought the urge to collapse against one of the many trees she was whizzing past with slowly decreasing speed, her mind zapping back to just a little while before...

Adelaide's eyes flashed open, revealing large hazel orbs tinted with the slightest bits of gold. She took in a quick breath and quickly sat up, her eyes darting around from the small, dirty covers of her creaking bed of wood. Nope. She was still located, dead center, in the small hovel that was really a large hollowed tree trunk. A small kettle sat in the corner of the wood-laden den, cold and barren, but other than that the place was deserted, void of other materials. She sighed and set herself fully upright, blinking the last vestiges of sleep out of her eyes as she tried to slow her breathing. All that she could recall was that she had a dream, and that it had somehow taken a turn for the worst, a nightmare... But she couldn't remember exactly what had scared her so much. She suddenly felt irritated by her behavior, though, and tried to push her feeble and weak thoughts to the back of her mind.

The vagabond quickly sat up on the small but sole cover of her corner of a bed, her bare feet coming to rest on the cold ground and immediately protesting with a chill that went up her spine. The shade of the dark tree, her current home of about two days, didn't exactly produce adequate temperatures, but it wasn't that big of a problem. She ignored the sensation as she gathered herself, coming to a stand and immediately crossing the space to the opposite side, a clump of armor cast aside on the dank floor. She routinely threw off her tattered nightgown and pulled on her leather armor. She still wasn't sure exactly where she had gotten the armor, as it had lasted her years, but it sure was sturdy. Though the fur on the shoulders didn't correspond well with her hair, she was satisfied with the rest of the ensemble, trying to think thoughtfully of it as she strapped on her boots. The tan leggings only came up to her ankles, and the long pelted sleeves of the pull-over of a shirt cut off just above her wrists, she noted as she scanned her on form. She'd have to go back to the orcs' hideout and see if they had another bit of clothing that they could sell off to her, but there were problems to that proposition; There was nary time for side events, and she was broke at the moment, completely run dry.

Tossing her torn gown to the same little patch of murky flooring, she flashed back to the present day and found herself nearing the entrance to the small hideout by reflex. She peered out into the area just outside, a small forest coming into view. There wasn't as much birdsong as she'd think for the time of the late morning, which came off as odd to her. And not as many other living organisms were among the undergrowth as she'd usually see on her varied lengths of travel. But she knew that she'd have to go, anyhow; She had to span out from her temporary establishment for a small number of reasons today. She had found an opportunity of a deal that she had to work out with a merchant down the road yesterday and had to negotiate further with him today and be dished out the details, not to mention having to sell off a few ingots that she had looted off of a fallen and abandoned cart not two days ago and possibly getting to those pennypinchers of monsters up the road that she had mentioned earlier. These were all small but important steps to her great goal of amassing enough of a small fortune to sleep her way out of the area of the kingdoms and be rid of all evidence of her past, all of which she was grateful.

The air crackled with the sounds of crisp voices as Addie snaked through the outerlying bushes of a large clearing nearest her makeshift settlement. She wasn't able to tell it was a battlefield until she looked out from a rather large hazel bush, finding it to be swamped with hordes of men and some women in full army regalia, fighting it out in charging groups of buzzing masses. Her eyes widened and she ducked out off sight; This had to be her worst nightmare. She knew that she had done some bad things, but karma was really out to get her behind now. How was she suppose to know that this area nearest the old merchant's hut was being planned for yet another battle of the kingdoms? It did seem a wise choice, though; Upon taking another peek out to it, she noticed that it had to be what was known as the border between the kingdoms, each seeming to be about five miles away from her point of view up on the embankment.

But she couldn't stop watching, for reasons unknown to her. This was a whole new perspective for the thief; Seeing the troops have it out really put her mind to the test. So many things happening, all in a flash. And before she knew it, they began to disperse before her eyes. She blinked and her irises darted around once more. How long had she been there? It hadn't seemed to be all too long, but considering that the bodies of the deceased and some hostages were being dragged off of the bloody field, it must have been longer than she thought.

But one thing did catch her eye; A small huddle of generals and soldiers, from a side of which she couldn't tell, were populating the corner closest to her position on the hill. She felt herself go stiff, knowing that she was just above them, and started to make her way out of the clutter of a bush. She hadn't realized, however, how much noise a rustling bush can deal out, though, and cringed as she tried to stay low to the ground. But as she cast a sideways glance behind her, she saw the guards looking in her direction just above their heads, one pointing seemingly straight at her. That was all the evidence she needed, though, and she slipped away, not daring to look back, in fear that they had spotted her, picking up speed as she ran, letting her feet carry her wherever they chose.

((Ahh, I'm so sorry for the clutter! My intro posts always seem to be very sketchy. Hope you don't mind walls of text.))

"Simply giving you a chance to admit." He responded, pulling the scabbard from her belt and passing it behind him before taking the knives. They went into his own belt: if he had had room the sword would have gone there too, but he didn't. Then he pulled the bow and quiver from her back before she was bound completely. These also went to the soldier behind him and Alvere gave low orders to put them in the armoury, in the locked chest. It was reserved for prisoners' weapons and should a prisoner die in their cells, the weapons were then moved into the main chamber of the armoury, where they could be used. As he focused on removing the quiver, his ear was very close to her mouth and he heard her mutter something.

To make other lives happy? That didn't sound like the words of a master thief. It sounded like the words of a helping hand, of a young woman who purposely went out of her way to help those less fortunate than herself. Could he have been wrong about her? No. She admitted on the battlefield to be a thief. Her words made him pause before he shook his head slightly and then stepped away. Quick orders for the two other Royal Guards to come with him, one to carry her and one to come behind, making sure that he couldn't get out of her bonds.

Now they were finally on their way, heading back to the cells. Absently, now that he didn't have to run and adrenaline wasn't swimming through his veins, his right hand reached up and he rubbed the fingers along his jawline where she had hit him. It hummed with pain and Alvere gave a low chuckle. The hellcat certainly had spirit, and she would have been a good soldier if she had been a Seulghem citizen. He shook his head again and turned to look back at her face. It was shaped into an expression of fear and his eyebrows knitted together. "What are you scared of?"

When the rich wage war, it's the poor who die.

Leonidas wasn't paying attention, despite his hand on his sword, like it always was. He had the weird, almost paranoid habit of keeping one hand on his weapon at all times, just in case. He supposed he had picked up the habit from fighting in wars all the time. Either way, nothing could have prepared him for what came next. Beinethiel, the elf prisoner, attacked the healers, slamming one's head and knocking him out, maybe killing him, and hurt the second in her jaw. The last healer had nearly had her neck broken, and Leonidas winced himself, feeling angry that Beinethiel had injured the healers. They hadn't done anything wrong to the bleeding elf. In fact, they had healed her, and now Beinethiel was in the perfect position to run Leonidas through with her newly found sword, now that she was once again fit and healthy. What really bothered Leonidas was that she had just disposed of the healers so quickly. He wasn't scared of facing off against her—he had done it once before—but he didn't want the healers to be caught in the crossfire of her daring escape.
Drawing his sword, quick as a flash, when the elf vaulted over and out of the cell, frowning heavily and creasing his eyebrows when the elf had the nerve to wink at him. Not bothering with his shield, Leonidas instead kept both hands on his sword, which meant that his swings would be faster and more powerful. Using two hands on a normally one-handed weapon allowed for more power behind your blows, although it was possible to overdo it and underestimate your own strength, something that Leonidas tended to do.
Leonidas was about to rush at the elf, prepared to get revenge for what she had done to the healers, but he stopped mid-swing, pausing at the last second. Lowering his weapon hesitantly, Leonidas watched Beinethiel carefully. He was unhappy that she had hurt the master healers, valuable for their expertise with magic, but he didn't exactly want to hurt the she-elf. After all, Prince Aeron was sure to torture the prisoners. Leonidas had to admit, he didn't want anyone tortured, especially not Beinethiel, for some odd reason. Part of it was his morals, but another part was that he felt rather guilty, looking at the female elf. Sure, she was fully healed and better now, but he had caused her a lot of pain and suffering, from the arrow wounds to the fire, which wasn't even his fault, it was Ryder's, but still, she had been forced to go through it.
Shifting his feet, feeling cautious and extremely doubtful, Leonidas put away his weapon, hoping she wasn't going to stab him in the chest. "You might as well leave. Prince Aeron was going to torture you, and well, with your little escape plan, he might even end up killing you as extra punishment. I hate to admit I don't want you dead, so it's best if you run as fast as you can." Turning around, cursing himself for placing his life at the hands of the elf by not watching her movements, he went into the cell instead, kneeling down next to the healers and helping them back to their feet. The one with the lesser injury, the broken jaw, healed herself quickly and set about reviving the others from their unconsciousness, patching up their broken bones and wounds as well.

When he ran after her and unsheathed his own sword with two hands she knew she could easily beat him in a simple sword fight mostly because of her pure strength of being an elf, she grimaced as he slowly lowered his steel sword. She hesitated before dropping the heavy piece of metal and watching it clank to the concrete. Her eyes followed the solider to her cell where he wounded healers lay, watching him help them up. A thought in her mind was telling her to run and never look back but, her heart was telling her to stay for.... him... No. Beinethiel turned on her heel to turn and run but, then something caught her eye. Her friends. That was the game changer.

Beinethiel clenched her jaw and sauntered right up to Leonidas and stood extremely close to them. "I swear to the gods if you hurt my friends that will be the last you see of your dear Prince Aeron." She hissed the princes name then softened her gaze. "I'm smarter than I look foot solider." The elf winked at him again and shoved past him to get back into her bloody cell, their bodies touching immensely.

The dragon seemed to be completely out of it. Aeron eyed her where she lay, his eyes flickering up onto the healers as they began to fix her. He tilted his head at the sound of appraoching footsteps. A lanky boy approached, his attire giving him away as a squire. As he neared Aeron, the boy's posture noticeably slumped; clearly intimedated by the Prince. Uh...a message from Lord Rickard...M'Lord.. The boy bowed low as he handed Aeron the small note.

Stepping closer to the wall sconce, Aeron eyed the familiar etchings of his Uncle's hand. I hope you don't intend on leaving the Princess of Istoth to rot in the cells, nephew. You can't escape this one you know. One sacrifice for you means a thousand lives on the battlefield. Now hurry along, the servants have prepared a late supper for you and your Queen. Aeron ground his teeth in annoyance, crumpling the paper in his hand before discarding it on the floor. Somehow, his Uncle's snarky tone was still conveyed when written on paper. Aeron reached up, extracting the torch from the wall sconce and walking over to the Princess's cell. Signalling a nearby guard, he cleared his throat, gesturing to the door.

Aeron watched as the guard walked forward, slotting the key into the lock and twisting. The door opened with a slight creak. Aeron stepped forward, blue eyes staring down at the Princess. His mouth was drawn into a thin line, "It's your lucky day." He paused, "It seems that some people would rather see you treated like a Princess than a prisoner. I have no idea why." Turning slightly, Aeron turned his gaze away from her, "Hurry up, before I change my mind. Try to run and I'll show you the Black Cells." His tone was authoritive and final, almost completely hiding a streak of childlike sulkiness.

If we don't end war, war will end us.
— H.G. Wells

format © vita.anima
Evangeline was sort of sulking in her cell. She had barely even gotten used to her prison, but she already felt claustrophobic. Evangeline loved her freedom and hated being trapped, especially in such a cramped, dank little cell. At least it was clean and didn't stink of blood and filth, although Evangeline sorely wished for outside, wanting to feel the sun on her skin again. Although, not too long ago, the sun had been beating on her skin, making her sweat almost uncomfortably, but Evangeline had been in far too much pain to appreciate being outdoors on the battlefield.
Evangeline had always had a bad habit of sneaking out of her room, normally locked away by her overprotective parents, going outside to run in the streets in boys' clothing and sometimes light armor, or climbing the castle walls. Evangeline was a little bit of a tomboy, often preferring to fool around with other boys her age in the castle or going outside to watch the men practice fighting in the courtyard. But Evangeline's favorite pastime had always been running, around in her large home, or just around the city where she lived. She liked running barefoot, but often couldn't do it in the streets because the roads were dirty and had rocks that could hurt her feet. So Evangeline had often left the city walls, something she was not supposed to do at all, to go run in the grass and fields surrounding the gates.
Evangeline was looking and feeling a bit wistful, wanting to go outside and play like a little kid, which she acted like sometimes, despite being an adult woman. Evangeline was still very young at eighteen, but her parents had always expected her to be a lady, acting all prim and proper, which was very much against Evangeline's personality and instincts. She would always be an adventurous child on the inside, as much as she tried to act mature on the outside. Just itching to go outside and run in the lovely fields, feeling the blades of grass tickle her feet, Evangeline was lost in daydreaming and her childhood memories. Consequently, she was barely paying attention when the prince showed up outside of her cell. Her reaction was delayed, but the surprise at seeing Prince Aeron rushed her thoughts away, and Evangeline got to her feet, head tilted to the side in curiosity. She was so surprised at seeing him again that she missed his first few words and didn't even have anything clever to say back to him, not that she ever did anyways.
Evangeline's mouth was slightly agape, but she shut it swiftly, her hazel-green eyes widening as she looked at the prince. She registered that she was being allowed to leave the cell, something she realized when the guard opened the door, Prince Aeron waiting for her expectantly. She noted his commanding tone, but smiled when she also picked up on a sort of obnoxious moping, a bit childish, really. But Evangeline couldn't judge him. Most of her personality was rather childish, so she merely nodded, obediently leaving the cell, feeling weirdly excited, probably because she was being given a little bit of free reign.
When Aeron said the word "run", Evangeline perked her head up, a real smile actually spreading on her face. The corners of her large eyes crinkled and her straight white teeth flashed as she tilted her head up to look at Aeron, who was a lot taller than her (she was tiny, only two inches over five feet, which made the prince a giant from her perspective, which was very intimidating). "Run? Well, I wouldn't dream of running from you, Your Royal Highness," The biting sarcasm returned to her voice, but it cleared away as she made her admittedly strange request. "I'd like to maybe run outside later, if that's all right with you. Or maybe climb the castle walls, if that's not asking for too much," The smile was gone now, but she was still looking at Aeron, her multi-colored eyes sparkling with near-childish excitement.
Trailing after the prince, her happiness ebbed away as she looked at the other prisoners still in their cells. Frowning, she wondered why Prince Aeron had let her out. She recalled him saying something about someone wanting to have her treated like a princess, but she couldn't imagine which Seulghem citizen would want that, much less one that had that much sway and persuasion over the stubborn prince. Keeping her eyes downcast so that she wouldn't meet the gazes of her friends, she felt guilt clutch at her heart. There she was, walking with the prince, probably to someplace nice, if he was supposed to be treating her like a princess, while her friends suffered in their cells still. Glaring a little bit at Aeron, even though she knew she shouldn't take out her anger on him, considering he was controlling what happened to her, she said almost accusingly, "Where are we going, anyways?" Remembering at the last second, she attempted to be a little bit more respectful by adding, "Prince Aeron," at the end, almost an afterthought.

Leonidas was surprised, again, by the elf. He wasn't expecting her to drop her weapon, an action he heard rather than saw, considering he was still turned towards the recuperating healers. Smiling at the trio of master healers, he nodded at them respectfully, feeling mildly surprised and extremely grateful when one of them glossed over his leg wound with a simple touch and whisper. Thanking the healer, Leonidas got to his feet, all the pain gone. Furrowing his brow in surprise when Beinethiel was still there, he crossed his arms in front of his chest, raising an eyebrow in a silent question. What on earth is that elf still doing here? Is that prisoner crazy? Leonidas thought to himself, his confusion only growing to godly heights when the elf walked up to him. He had forgotten how much taller elves were than humans, even men, and this particular elf was pretty tall, taller than six feet, a height that Leonidas was shorter than. It was intimidating, but he refused to back away, looking the elf straight in the eyes, despite having to tilt his head up a tiny bit to glare at her. Leonidas was sure that the surprise flickered in his blue-green eyes when the elf made her strange request. The next thing he knew, Beinethiel was back in her cell. The healers came out, looking just as confused as Leonidas, while he locked the cell, slipping the keys onto his belt securely, still watching the elf. The thing that most disturbed Leonidas was the physical contact between him and Beinethiel. The wink, then the rough shoving to get past him and into her claustrophobic cell, Leonidas had to force himself to keep still instead of flinching at the unexpected contact. The elf was strangely warm to the touch, but Leonidas completely ignored that thought, hoping that the embarrassment wasn't showing on his face. Stepping away, he ducked his head, leaning against the wall next to Beinethiel's cell, his customary stance once again adopted, right hand crossed over his body to lay on the hilt of his sword.

The she-elf caught the flush of red in his cheeks when she pushed past him. It was humorous to her of how easily men could be flattered. Lost in a train of though she chuckled lightly to herself then snapped back into the real life when she realized she was laughing aloud. Checking with a quick glance to see if the solider noticed she bit her lower lip in apprehension. Beinethiel scoffed when she saw his hand on his sword. She raised her brow and slid down the wall to sit on the dirty ground with a huff. It was damp on the floor as she heard voices down the hallway. Sounding like Evan and Aeron she stood and padded lightly over to the cage door. Peering down the dark hallway she caught a glance of them walking out of the prison together like they were close. The elf clenched her jaw and tightened her grasp on the steel bars. "Now how come she gets to be treated like a princess and I don't get to be treated like the Captain of the Isoth army." She growled mostly just talking to herself but, she turned to look at Leonidas for an answer. Her gaze softened when she exhaled loudly, he was quite handsome for a human, somewhat tall, and had probably had a nice body. Good gods, stop. Bay told herself and shook her head desperately trying to shun the thought away.

Elizabeth let her eyes fall onto the man's coldheartedly, or at least as best as she could with being carried and all. "I am scared of nothing. I fear only the fear within me. You do know about that kind of fear, don't you?" she suddenly questioned him, her voice changing to once filled with inquisitive thought.

"That fear that seeps into the eyes of mankind when they know death is coming," she added, not bothering to give him a chance to respond to the question. "Bother not to make a deal with Istoth if you do so wish to lock me up. I will be dead before you even make contact with them," she murmured, her body going limp with depression. The young girl was quite mature, far to mature for her age, ready to take on death, but still childish nonetheless. Sighing, she closed her eyes, trying to think of something that brought her joy.

But what was the use in that? She knew that any moment now she would be placed back in a cell. These idiotic Seulghem men would be too ignorant to take her warning seriously. They'd believe her to be acted like a child and over dramatizing everything, even how she was to die just because they were locking her away. The only one who seemed to have any sense was the man whom had taken her hostage, yet she still doubted his intelligence.
