an ancient folk story tells of a great race within the animal kingdom:
who would be the first twelve to reach the meeting called by the jade
emperor. ultimately, the rat won, the ox came second, third the tiger
and so on until we have the twelve zodiac animals we know today. what
few know is that there was a thirteenth contender in the race: the cat,
who was tricked by the rat and prevented from placing. centuries on
and it has become clear that the qualities possessed by the cat, which
were replaced by the placing of the pig in twelfth place, are vital for
the continuation of earth. thus, the jade emperor and his confidantes
called a second meeting, decreeing that the modern age embodiments
of the twelve zodiac animals would be sent on a search for the cat.

twelve zodiacs. twelve unsuspecting descendants. it is no surprise that
since ancient china the zodiacs have spread out across the world, lost in
the vitality of the human world. whilst we may not recognise them for
the influence they hold, and even they may not realise their potential,
there are some who always know. the jade emperor, ruler of heaven and
all realms of existence has called forth the zodiacs once more, returning
them to imperial china with no warning and no explanation but for one
goal: to find the cat and ensure she finishes the race in place of the pig,
who has since abandoned her duties and enraged the emperor with her
laziness. slowly, as they relive and re-experience imperial china, their
memories will begin to rebuild. the rat will remember pushing the cat
into the river and the pig will realise she does not wish to have her power
revoked, and their journey will become that more difficult.

nyla is often too laid-back and too ignorant for her own good. she is
too trusting and too trustworthy, tending to be walked all over by those
