Down in the basement, Mars found that the periphery of the dank, dark atmosphere was going to be big enough for an at least three-quarters of the town. All the rest would have to use their basements, at the very least. It was only a matter of time until the storm actually hit. He flipped on a light and slowly, flickering bulbs sputtered to life, washing the room in visibility. There was an air duct, which they would clearly need, unless Drew planned for them all to suffocate to death. In truth, Mars didn’t think he’d have a problem with that. If only he survived, he’d be more than happy.
Maybe that was the reason he was so good at what he did.
He gestured to a handful of Coates kids he had also brought down—and not so much as by a warm invitation, because Drew would have to learn quick that Mars was only a get-it-done guy and not one who cared about bending the rules—to spread out and get things going. There were a few pieces of long-worn furniture that would need removed. There would also have to be a doctor, in case Drew had him set something else up.
There were already enough burnt-up kids to deal with at the moment.
He turned and left the room, giving the Coates kid he left in charge—a whiny, snot-nosed kid named Denny—a look that was manifest that things had to be taken care of before the storm came. He skipped back up the stairs and into the Town Hall office. Opening the door with one arm, his sleeve rolled up and revealing a Celtic cross, he cast a smile at Scarlet. “Ah, it’s nice to you again. I see your mascara’s a bit smudged, though,” he mused. He turned his dark eyes back on Drew. “So what now, Brother? The brunette’s handing out jobs like fries and I’ve got some kids working on the basement.” His expression went dark, like an unreadable arrogance. Mars leaned back against the wall and crossed his arms, before raising an eyebrow. He titled his head to the side a little, his shaggy hair cascading down around his neck.
“Where’s Marjorie? Finding something that to wear suits your desire, I presume?” He cast a look at Scarlet, smiling his faintest. “Something like she wore back in Maine for you?”

Micah raised his head, seeing the brunette begin to give out orders. Hm. So this is what this boy planned. He didn’t have a doubt in his mind that it wasn’t for the greater good. Of course they’d need to clear out houses; it’d be stupid of them not to.
He chuckled lowly to himself, casting a look over at Jack that clearly said he didn’t want to take orders from this boy, this Drew. It really didn’t add up: that this Coates kid wanted to help Town. He had seen a lot of ugly back in Chicago; a lot of brutal, deceiving things. Things he had learned from numerous enemies and allies. People never did the right thing because they knew it was for the greater good. They always wanted something out of it.
And remember Columbus? For that single reason, that specific lesson learned, he couldn’t just take this guy’s word. Never. Because once you learn what your enemy wanted, then you knew what your enemy’s enemy was. And perhaps, that enemy alone was alliance.
He quickly put on a clever smile and cast a look to Jack that beckoned him to follow, before strolling up and extended his hand to the girl giving out orders. “Hi,” he introduced. “I’m Micah. What can you tell me about plans for the future?”

"Take a left," He said, and held to his seat belt as the van flung around the corner. He was almost tempted to yell out "SLOW DOWN!" But they were actually going to his home, and a terrifying storm was rumbling behind them. It was worth having a heart attack, and of course, a stroke too. He gulped, Bullenbeisser sliding around in the back seat, ramming into the seats and back and forth. "Take a right," The vehicle screeched as it almost ran the curb, and Karsten, as calmly and as collectively as he could said "Uh, half a mile on. We respond to a dirt road and the great scarlet house is on the left. It's a long way to the house, but we have to cross a lot of land to cross. We'll be there in.." He looked out the large, transparent window and saw the old, worn down trailer and immediately commented "In seven minutes."
Karsten's eyes basically popped out of his head as the van just missed squashing a little squirrel. He shook in anxiety, and Bullenbeisser nervously padded up to the front seat. The vehicle came to a erupt stop as it reached the dirt road, it being violently bumpy and muddy. Karsten shook his head and opened the front door, imagining how much faster it would go if he would just run the rest of the way. Just a few meters down they would come to a large, black gate that he would have to open anyways.
Bullenbeisser jumped onto Karsten, flopping down onto the ground as the boy struggled to put him onto the muddy road. Karsten jogged to the gate, shaking his head the entire time, and pushed it open. "Gracious." He mumbled, the animal jumping through and frantically running through the grass. The house was 1/4 of a mile away, and he ran the entire way down. The tall, brown-headed German boy instead jogged quickly, and urged the van to continue moving.

Amanda looked up as a boy walked up to her. He looked to be about sixteen or seventeen. He wasn't bad looking, either. She smiled slightly, and quickly shook his hand, then pulled away, just in case her hands suddenly decided to burst into flames again. She'd have to learn how to control that. "Well, i know for right now that a radiation storm is on the way, and that we need to get everyone up to safe houses. There is a lot of space up on the hill, and i know that the townies don't want to team up with us students, but it has to be done, or we'll all die. I don't know a lot about Drew, but i know that we shouldn't trust him. Just.. remember, you didn't hear that from me. I have to pretend to be in with him, otherwise things will get bad for me." She smiled slightly at him. "Nice to meet you, Micah. I'm Amanda, by the way. Hope i can get to know you better." She smiled in a slightly flirty way, though she didn't think she genuinely meant it. She sighed, looking back at the doors, then the sky, then back at Micah. She wanted to go back inside to eavesdrop on Drew. she had to get more information about him. And watch her back. Things were gonna get dirty around here.

Scarlet blinked slowly, an amused smile playing at her lips. Drew was smart; she could accept that. Always so suspicious. She had to convince him that she was still loyal, still at least an ally. She tilted her head as he talked, making it seem like she actually cared, then gave a shrug. She had a lie ready. "Drew. Darling. Hun. You really think I did that? What, all of the adults disappear and a few burst pipes are the weirdest thing that could ever happen? And of course I'd tell you, you think I'm stupid? C'mon, Drew, you know me. You know I'd do whatever it required to survive. We're alike in that way." She threw her head back and laughed, carelessly, hoping that her facade was enough and he'd just drop it already.
xxxShe stood when he stood, crossing her arms and watching as he walked behind the desk. Of course. She watched as he played at being powerful again, smiling placidly. Only when he was finished talking did she move to stand behind him. Trying to keep from shuddering she awkwardly squeezed his shoulder. That was a sign of friendliness, right? Openness? Something? Actually, no, forget that, she didn't want to be friendly, she wanted to be cold and impartial and Scarlet. "Okay, I do have something to confess. I really, really love ballet." She rolled her eyes, digging her nails into his shoulder before letting go and moving around so she could lean against the desk, facing him.
"No, you won't, Drew." She spoke softly, maybe even sounding gentle. Gosh, she was really turning up the emotions today. It was exhausting. "You think I don't see the look in your eyes? The weakness? No, let me fix that- you don't want to, but you will. You'd never want to hurt me, I-" She cut off, and twisted her neck to look over her shoulder as another redhead entered the room. Mars. She'd missed that little psychopath too, enough so that she returned his smile. "Nice to know that you're looking close enough to care, Mars." The deadpan reply rolled off her tongue easily, and she turned to smirk at Drew, all hints of gentleness gone. "Michigan? Really? You didn't inform me of that, Drew." They expected her to care. Hilarious. She pushed her braided hair over her shoulder and moved around and behind Drew so she could face both boys easily. Seeing Mars made the pressure start building again, and she set her jaw firmly, only slightly panicked. █

Quinn was expecting the violent reaction, but he wasn't expecting the screech. He let out a slightly terrified yelp and his head moved sharply to the side to try and get away from the offending noise, but he kept his grip on the Jamaican girl. He already regretted this decision- Scarlet wasn't even there to see him be all cute and fatherly. Okay, maybe not fatherly, he admitted as he used his free hand to wrestle the girls' hands down to keep from balding him, but he always looked adorable. It was the hair. And the eyes. And him in general, really- "Jay-zus!" The girl was wailing. Like, proper wailing, the kind of wailing that Quinn expected from a girl who he would normally offer his shoulder to. That went on for about a minute, and then the girl started snarling. Quinn was beginning to wish he'd never left Coates. "Oh my Gawd, I'm no' putting ye down so stop bawling! I don't care about yer marbles and I don't care about yer Iron Man suit, whatever the hell tha' is-"
Quinn's shout was cut off by another snarl from behind him. Suddenly realizing that Canadian wasn't beside him, he spun around, blinking, and stopped short. The guy looked... sort of terrifying, if he was honest, but more terrifying still was the black clouds behind him. Quinn had seen his fair amount of storms in Ireland, but these were.... awful looking. Unnatural. He didn't hear the rest of Kevin's little speech, and before he could register it he was off on his skateboard. Suddenly, Hannah-Nora's face was directly in front of his, and he let out a little terrified "ah!". He didn't listen to her much- wait, she wanted to marry him?- and didn't really react when she finally got off his back. Until she started running for the gun store. "Uh uh, no, honey." He picked her up by her waist and spun her around, placing her in front of him. "C'mon, we're going after Kevin." He started walking, his long legs meaning Hannah-Nora would have to run to keep up, probably.█

Mia had been dealing well with the end of the world, now that she thought of it. She'd been at home when everyone disappeared- sick with flu. She wasn't really sure what had happened. The woman who her father had employed when Mia's mother was killed to housekeep had been fussing over Mia, asking if she needed anything to drink and generally being lovely had disappeared right in front of her eyes. Mia had this theory that that had scared the flu out of her. She was sitting at the breakfast bar now in her hoodie and pyjamas, eating- drinking? she'd never figured it out- vegetable soup and figuring out what to do. That's what her mother had always said to her- always have some soup when you need to think. It did help, but Mia wasn't surprised. Mam's advice had always been the best.
xxxNow, though, she definitely needed to go out. Find the other adults. The huge house Mia shared with her father was secluded, just outside of town, and had its own grounds. Mia didn't have many friends, but, still, she reasoned, if other adults were still there they must have come to find her by now. All the staff that ran the house couldn't have just... disappeared without someone noticing, right? A quick change into shorts and a vest top later, Mia pulled a beanie over her hair and walked outside. No police cars, okay, she could deal with that. Maybe people hadn't noticed; she couldn't blame them. They were probably dealing with lots more important things, like rescuing animals from horrible owners and stopping people from doing bad things. That thought cheered her up, and she sang along to Ariana Grande as she walked down the path that ringed the massive emerald garden and led to the house gates. They were open, and she distinctly remembered her dad saying something about how the gates should never be left open, so when she was on the other side she pushed them closed. There. Dad would be proud of her. She nodded to herself proudly before screwing her earbuds back in, this time singing along loudly and tunelessly to One Direction. She practically skipped down the highway, having made the trek lots of times before, and stopped dead when she saw all the crashed cars. No, that wasn't right. Car crashes were bad and she hated them and her father had moved them out of the way specifically so Mia never had to see them. She clapped her hand over her mouth and walked quickly, her eyes flickering to the cars and then back again as she forced herself to think of other things, like Zayn Malik's face or how nice the flowers lining the sidewalk looked or... or... Then she was passed the wreckage and she could breathe again, could stop forcing her brain to not automatically think of her mother. She walked into the square of the town, and her mouth fell open again. Kids. Kids everywhere, and not one adult. That wasn't right. There had to be adults, that's what her dad always said. There had to be adults to keep things calm, because kids did crazy things when there weren't adults. Her breathing started quickening up and she hugged her arms across her chest and yes, she was indeed terrified.

J A C K ~ P O W E R L E S S ----> micah, amanda
Jack dutifully followed Micah when he left and walked to some girl. Micah asked her what the plans for the future were, and the girl mentioned a radiation storm. What??? Jack had keep his eyes from bulging out of his skull at the news. No wonder they were getting everyone into the basements of houses.
"Alright, I'm sure that's enough flirting for now. What about this radiation storm? And why shouldn't we trust this Drew guy?" Jack asked, worried beyond belief. Right then, he didn't even care that there were no more adults. Jack noticed that the girl kept looking at the doors, the sky, etc. Why were the doors so intriguing? He wouldn't ask, no. That'd be rude. But Jack forced himself to keep an eye on this girl, along with everyone else. He may have been a Coates student, but apparently he couldn't trust other students, either, nor the "townies," as they were so delightfully put.

Amanda felt her cheeks burn when the boy beside Micah mentioned flirting. She felt it was annoying and embarrassing when people even mentioned it. She had never been good in the love game anyways. She smiled slightly at him. She didn't quite recognize him and looked at him quizzically. "All i know is that it's coming, and fast. You shouldn't trust Drew, or scarlet. Or that kid, what's his name? Mars? I don't remember. But you shouldn't trust any of them. Why? Because they're power hungry and cruel. If you do one thing out of place, they won't hesitate to kill, hurt, or do something bad to you. So just lay low around them and do what they want. It's the best way. I'm Amanda, by the way, and you are?" She took a deep breath after talking for such a long piece of time without breathing. She glanced back at Micah with a bigger smile, then back at the other boy. "I'm not sure what else i need to do here. I might need to go back to Drew... But i'm not sure."

Mars raised his head a bit, pieces of his dark hair falling back from his face as he stared back at his leader. He could feel the threat, the rise of tension, but he didn’t cower from it: he invited it, his lips twisting into a grin as he stood to his normal height. “You’re the boss, Brother.” He said calmly. As it to coolly placate; but they both knew it wasn’t true. Mars wasn’t scared of Drew. In fact, the thought of getting this over with was something he marveled and waited upon. Drew’s time was coming—he had no doubt of that.
His dark eyes never fell away from Drew’s smoky gaze, waiting. And for a second, he wondered if this would be the moment. He could feel the weight of his pistol seemingly heavier now. He could have it out in a flash. It would be so easy, just pulling it out and shoving it in Drew’s face; firing a single bullet and turning his sights on the snobby redhead. He knew how quick the other boy moved; everyday he calculated things about his enemy, of how he thought, what he said, how fast he walked, which direction he faced while sleeping. Everything was in a steady, perfect sum.
Then he looked over at Scarlet, his lips curling into another smile. “And to answer your question… I notice everything.” His smile faded, slowly, because a dim memory of noticing how quiet Mattie had gotten, lying on the wooden floor, came back to him. He quickly covered it up.
Mars turned his gaze to Drew, listening with careful appreciation. All while drumming his thumb against his thigh. He turned to go, but as he opened the door he heard Drew referring to Scarlet. He paused, the tall dark-haired boy turning back around. “Oh no,” he said, shaking his head. He guffawed. “Scarlet’s all about dirty. She might look like she’s fragile,” he wet his lips, and gave her a sad twinkle. “But she’s tougher than what she appears to be.”
With that, the Scottish boy turned in his boots and went out the door.

Micah returned the firm handshake, feeling the sort of confidence he hadn’t felt in a long time. Maybe that was because he had a feeling of what he was dealing with. Somebody who wanted to help the town. But why? What did this guy want from the town? Supplies? He cast a look toward the dome, high above them, a bluish-gray tent that cast a grotesque roundness around them.
“Oh,” he added, “And this is Jack.” He gestured back toward the younger British boy before giving the boy a harsh smile—something that said he better shut up before he got himself into the wrong fight. “He’s a friend.” And the same guy who’d saved his life, forty minutes ago, bandaging up his leg and giving him some pain killers…
“So this Drew wants to protect the town? Well… that’s a good thing.” If he was smart about it.
Micah ran a hand over his chin, considering. So there was a modern-day Napoleon. Hmm. This would be interesting. But the question that still lingered was who he was protecting the town from? There was nothing out there. Except the powers; kids with “magic tricks.” He’d seen that, back in Chicago. When he’d been first introduced into those secrets. Then he’d become both a teacher and wise-guy of sorts; a modern-day, black-Yoda.
He looked up into the dark clouds, watching as they rolled in from the north. “Radiation? From the Power Plant?” He nodded, looking towards the basement of town hall. “Alright, we won’t take up your time.” As he was leaving, he stopped to whirl in his converse. “Do you need help? I heard Drake—Drew, um, say something about clearing houses?”

Hannah-Nora wanted to wring his filthy little neck; several times, in fact. That was, if she could reach up and grab it. But what with being a so short, she would have to wait until he picked her up again: and she doubted that Quinn would do that any time soon.
She tumbled a little in her light up shoes, being heaved back into the air. The gun store was only ten feet away! She reached out grabby hands and squeezed her fists, like she was trying to pull herself closer. “No!” She screeched as she was tugged away; the pitch was deafening, and wouldn’t be surprising if Quinn had perpetual ear damage after the long few hours spent with the little Jamaican girl. “I wanna blow somebody up! I wanna—I wanna—LEMME DOWN, YA… YA…” Her face flushed, blowing up with rage. “YA POO-POO HEAD! I KILL YA ALL WHEN DIS OVA! I MURDER YA VIOLENTLY AND I MURDER YA BRUTALLY!”
But after a while of crowing her threats and sobbing, she figured three things. No, wait, two: One, she couldn’t say another syllable and was sure she had ruined her vocal chords. Although this would be a miracle for both Kevin and Quinn, it was something that made Hannah-Nora rage. And, number two, she was tired now. So she was surprised when Quinn set her down and motioned her to run. She waved a furious fist, mouthing a whole line of curses, which were muted, due to her burning throat. So, she decided in the end to just shut up and run. When she found herself behind, about twenty paces, she made a squeak. “Quinn! Hold on, mon! I constipated and runnin’ ain’t doin’ a thing good fa it!” But realizing this was futile, Hannah-Nora tugged her pants back into place and ran on. A few moments later, they arrived at what she guessed was Kevin’s house. “Ke-VON!” She called, cupping her hands around her mouth.

Cassie leapt, grabbing Jessi’s hand, but the Russian tugged away too fast and was gone; the only thing she could do was watch in gloom as her friend tried to escaped their nightmare. It wouldn’t do any good. The blonde sat down, feeling utterly numb. After a moment, she glanced incredulously back up at the tall boy. “Well…” She cast her eyes toward Jared. The guy looked shell shocked and misplaced. She could definitely relate. She looked back up to her freed prisoner/ally. Was he an ally now? Well, he certainly had the decency to invite them to his house… then her eyes narrowed. Maybe he really was a pervert, and was trying to lure her into his house. Of course, she was the one with the van, though… “I don’t know if I can.” Her lips twisted to one side, weighing her options. “I’d have to go and get my friend back. She’s like a sister. And then I’d have to make sure my goats and chickens were safe from the fall out.” The Youtuber looked up into the sky and for the first time noticed the rolling clouds. They were coming from the north. Where Jessi was; where her house was. If they only had under an hour, and she guessed this time due to the way the clouds were coming in, then she’d have to get moving. But they’d be moving toward the fall out… For the first time, she wasn’t cracking a joke. She felt scared.
“Okay, okay…” She stood, her back bent to make sure she didn’t hit the top of the van. “Um,” she quickly pulled her hair back into a pony tail, a habit she did when she was cutting the persona and getting serious. “Get in,” she grabbed his hand and hauled him in before snapping her fingers at Jared to follow suit. “By the way,” she said, crawling up into the driver’s seat. She looked over her shoulder. “I’m Cassie—not Casey. It’s Cassie. You know, the nickname of Cassidy; this is Jared and the girl you saw running off is Jessi.” She turned the key and the van rumbled to life. “We’re Youtubers—comedians, modern-day scientists, school kids.” She smiled wistfully in the rearview mirror. “And we’re going to find out what this dome is all about.”

Amanda nodded to Micah when he asked if she needed help. "I uh.. Need to get back to Drew. Micah, can you help get the other kids into the houses? Please?" She nodded slightly and went back inside, passing a red-head she didn't know, but recognized. She moved past him and to the office, glaring slightly at Scarlet. The girl bothered her, and she wouldn't be upset if something... 'happened' to her. An accident of sorts, lets say. She pushed that from her mind and turned to Drew. "Alrighty then, Drew. Finished your first job for me. That guy, Micah, is helping the other kids to the houses. At least, i asked him to. I told everyone what was going on and where to go. Anything else you want me to do?" She smiled, but it was completely fake. She twirled a few strands of dirty blonde hair around one finger, feigning the idiot popular girl stance. Cheery. Happy. That kind of thing. The exact opposite of what and who she was. She glanced back at Scarlet, but tried to ignore her. And keep her hands from bursting into flames. It was incredibly hard. Her emotions were at an all-time high right now, which made her feel more unpredictable. This wasn't good. She shifted her weight from foot to foot, feeling awkward. she could practically feel the tension in the room, but she kept her gaze on Drew. She could also hear her heart thumping inside her rib cage. Was she right to be scared of him? Yes. She knew that she should be. And she should be wary of Scarlet. She wasn't sure if the two had powers like she did, but guessed that Scarlet did. She saw what happened outside. She kept the facade of cheery school girl up, praying that it was believable.

J A C K ~ P O W E R L E S S t a g g e d ----> micah
Jack stood idly and silently by when Micah gave him a look that said "shut up." He nodded and plastered on a fake little smile, figuring that's what people did. He let Micah introduce him and do the rest of the talking, and then the Amanda girl was gone. That was, well, quick. Jack turned to Micah once the girl had disappeared.
"So, I presume I'm to help you help kids get into houses?" Jack asked, smiling a real smile at the confusing sentence he'd just spoken. He really shouldn't enjoy saying complicated, repetitive sentences like that. It was like trying to explain Dexter to someone - but not the Dexter that owns a laboratory thrice the size of his own home.
Jack took a look around at the kids standing out. It shouldn't be too hard, right? Just point them in the direction of a house or something like that. And avoid Drew, Scarlet, and Mars, since they're power hungry kids who'll kill or hurt you, as he'd been told. Jack wasn't saying he didn't believe her, but he was a scientific 16 year old that liked to experiment and learn things by himself. However, he would take heed around those three. Drew seemed like a good guy, trying to help save the people and whatnot, but some people were just so deceiving. Take actors and actresses, for example. One minute you think they're a crazy wizard throwing spells this way and that and the next they're just a normal person. Crazy how that happens.
