Kelly followed quickly along, loving the lively spirit Star always keeps with her. "What is it?" He was curious now, wondering what she wanted to show him. He laced his fingers with hers, loving the feeling of her small hand in his. Kelly thumped down the stairs with Star, not even knowing that there was a downstairs.

Starfish took the container and gently flicked on the lights, revealing a huge aquarium teeming with all sorts of tropical fish, bubbling in the center of the room.

"It's like my own private ocean," she explained, unscrewing the top of the jar and slipping the starfish gently in. It floated down to the bottom and clung to a coral, pulsating slightly. Star watched Kelly carefully, hoping against hope that he would like her pride and joy.

"Star... This is incredible." Kelly was at a loss of breath and words, completely awestruck by the incredible array of fish. It was like an entire self-sustaining ecosystem, held up by live corals and plants, as well as the fish that inhabited the tank. He looked over at her, seeing how proud she was of it; he was blown away, and she was right to be proud. She looked away for a moment, enthralled with the tank, and he knew he had his chance.
He reached into his pocket with a sly, fluid movement, moving his hand behind his back. He knelt down on one knee, taking Star’s hand in his. Kelly knew; his whole life was leading up to this moment.



“Star, will you marry me?”
He held out the ring, the diamonds glistening in the light as it filtered through the sheer curtains. Kelly’s eyes were locked on Star’s, waiting for an emotional reaction.

Starfish smiled, gazing at the starfish.

"Thank you, Kelly, I--" She felt him take her hand and turned slightly, blinking in surprise as she saw Kelly suddenly kneel down. "--what?"

The words took a second to get to her brain. /Star, will you marry me?/

For a few seconds, she just blinked dumbly, staring at the ring in his hand. It was shiny. It sparkled in the sunlight. It was a ring. He was asking her to marry him. How would that even work? Would they get married in the cottage? What? How would it work? Would it matter? No
it didn't matter

She realized that she was still standing there, mute.

"Kelly, I--"

"I--"

She stumbled over her words. /internal screaming what/

"You mean-- you want me to--"

Disbelief.

The glass jar slipped from her hands and shattered under the table. Star didn't move.

"I--" she couldn't say it!!! She couldn't speak.
So she dropped down on her knees and grabbed her gorgeous, clever, perfect boyfriend and kissed him on the lips.

The sudden realization that Star could say no hit Kelly like a train. Suddenly all the air to breathe was gone, and he felt like everything around him was swaying. She just stood there, in silence. The container slipped from Star's hands and shattered, but Kelly didn't flinch. Suddenly she love at him, kissing him passionately. He hadn't expected it at all, and fell backwards in surprise. He wrapped his arms around her, kissing back the most beautiful, perfect, sweet, and amazing girl he had ever met. He stopped for just a moment. "Is that a yes?"

"Yes!" squealed Starfish, throwing her arms around him. "Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes !! yes!!"

Kelly grinned, unimaginably excited about his new fiancé. "May I?" He asked, holding out the ring, removing it from its blue velvet box.
