in ancient greece, the nine lady muses were the source of the knowledge contained in poetric lyrics and myths. they were goddesses; they inspired the greatest poets and authors and orators; they excelled in literature, science and the arts. they were the legendary daughters of the god of the gods, zeus, and memory personified, mnemosyne. the nine lady muses: calliope, the muse of epic poetry; clio, the muse of history; erato, the muse of love poetry; euterpe, the muse of song; melpomene, the muse of tragedy; polyhmnia, the muse of hymns; terpsichore, the muse of dance; thalia, the muse of comedy; and urania, the muse of astronomy.

in ancient greece they originated, but they have yet to leave the shoulder of the mortals.

in twenty-first century new york city, the nine lady muses have found themselves working with nine handsome mortals who are each lacking that extra 'oomph' in their respective fields. the law student struggling to get his degree. the comedian unable to find a stage. the writer suffering from writer's block. the dancer with two left-feet. the singer who is singing just a little off-key. the historian without history worth writing for. the actor without his leading lady. the astronomer who has grown bored of staring at the stars. the songwriter with nobody to sing his songs.
