The Beast Who Slayed

Word Count: 793

A scream shattered the peace that hung over the night like fog. The villagers cowered in their homes, sadly looking down at the floor, praying for the soul of the victim. The Adramalech had struck again. No one really knew when the beast had come, or from where. All they knew, was that every night, a new victim was chosen. They were living in fear, and kids would hardly ever come out on the once joyful streets and play.

Depression was heavy to those who had lost someone dear to them. Last week, the mayor's only daughter, sweet little angel she was, was killed by the Adramalech. With the mayor currently not able to work properly, the residents of the village wondered what would happen to them. Some had thought that leaving was the best option. That was, until the beast had hunted down anyone that stepped foot outside the perimeter. They had lost five families that night, three who had children in them.

Another option was hiring someone professional to come and slay the Adramalech. Since there was no way to go out and hire one themselves, the residents of the village sent out a pigeon to the nearest town. Hope was high that week, and people believed that they would finally be able to get rid of the beast. Then, one morning, the old seamstress cried out in horror at the sight on her doorstep. The pigeon that had been sent out earlier that week, was mutilated. All the hope that had gathered in the villagers, was doused with a cold and cruel feeling. It all made sense now. That was why there had been no attacks after the poor bird was sent out.

Despair was now a common mood, and fights began to break out between the residents. The downfall of a once proud and cheerful village was crystal clear. They were never going to escape the wrath of the Adramalech. An owl hooted off in the distance, effectively snapping the villager's out of their thoughts.

Heavy footsteps were heard marching through the village, accompanied by a low snarl and horrible smell. No one dared to move, or even breathe, until nothing was heard at all. Light began to make it's way through the drawn curtains, and the villagers sighed in relief. The beast was gone. For now, at least. Venturing out of their homes, the frightened, yet thoroughly relieved villagers, made their way to the town square. Gasps were heard, followed by a strangled scream of rage.

Mounted high up on the fountain, was the victim. Tears were shed, as they managed to recognize who it was. Limbs were missing, and the face was nearly unrecognizable. Yet, everyone there could tell. The baker's daughter. Oh how she did not deserve this cruel fate. The poor girl was only just of age, and was set to be married off in early May. Her fiancé fell to his knees, tears streaming down his face, rage clear in his eyes. How could that..that..that DEMON, do this to the love of his life!?
As the work of getting the girl down from the fountain began, the man got up from his knees and made a vow.

He would absolutely KILL the Adramalech, and avenge his love.

The funeral took place later on that day, and everyone in the village mourned the loss. Surprisingly, the fiancé of the late baker's daughter, was silent. He only muttered words under his breath, and didn't even cry when they buried her in the pit. He was the last one there at the burial site, and gently set down a red rose on the freshly dug up earth. Then he stood up, and walked away without turning back.

Later that night, just before sundown, the man sneaked out, armed with a gun and knife. Venturing out into the dark forest, he had brought only a simple lantern to light the way. Once he was a good 30 minutes in, he set down the lantern, and screamed for the retched beast to come and get him. He didn't have to wait long. A snarl and heavy footsteps were heard behind him, and the man turned. Red eyes met his own hazel ones, and he let out a scream of rage as he charged the beast, knife drawn.

Why he didn't use the gun he had with him, is still a mystery today. The Adramalech merely swatted the knife away, before launching itself onto the poor man. He cried out, feeling the pain his would-be wife had felt, and continued to scream. The villagers heard the, and were shedding their tears already. They listened to every pain-filled scream that rang out in the night.

And then there was none.

Good luck to everybody that posts on here~ :3

You can always add to it. (: I expect the contest will go on for at least a week, maybe two. That should be enough time for you to bump it up to 600 words.

The Crimson Forest 1,861

Once, very long ago, in The Crimson Forest a young girl was carefully making her way through. She’d heard that at one end of the forest was a beautiful lake and if you swam in that lake you’d dream of your true love the following evening.

Most would jump at the chance to dive in headfirst, but Maggie was a little apprehensive.

You see, Maggie knew who her true love was. She’d met him, laughed with him, loved him and then sadly lost him. But after hearing about the lake from her older sister’s friend – and despite her growing fear of the forest – Maggie found herself unconsciously wandering into the crimson trees in search of this supposed lake.

She wasn’t sure why her subconscious had chosen this moment to free her from the fear of the forest, but as time wore on and the sun began to sink behind the horizon, Maggie knew. She’d risk and give anything if she could just see Bo one last time.

Since the moment of his untimely death, Maggie has been less than a shadow of her former self. She tried – God did she try – but it was as if Bo had taken the very essence of her happiness with him the day his empty casket was buried in the ground. She tried going through the motions and for a few days it worked…until someone would mention Bo. Then she’d break all over again and lock herself away in her room once more.

Her parents had no idea how to help her anymore, after all Bo’s strange disappearance and assumed death was just the last in a long line. First was Rebekah, Maggie’s best friend from the moment they were birthed. She and Maggie had been enjoying one of their many slow walks through the forest – talking about everything from meals they’d helped prepare to boys – when something caught Rebekah’s attention. She was mid-word telling Maggie about the kiss she’d finally shared with Jon and she just…stopped talking. Whatever it was, Rebekah stared at it another moment before running off.

At first, Maggie just thought she was playing – distracting her from the fact that Rebekah had finally kissed Jon – and laughed jovially as she followed a ways behind her friend. But as Maggie rounded the next wide trunk and saw no sign of Rebekah panic began to seep into her belly. Maggie scoured every square inch of the part of the forest they’d traversed but found not a single clue as to where she could have gone. Night had fallen and Maggie knew that if she spent much more time out there they'd send the entire village to come find them. And as much as she wanted to keep looking, fear had wrapped its nasty tendrils around her and squeezed tight.

It took everything inside Maggie to make her feet finally move and when they did she flew out of the forest at top speed. When she broke through the clearing and into the village she ran right past her house, right past Rebekah’s and straight to Jon.

Panicked, after hearing Maggie explain what had happened, Jon threw on his boots storming out of his house and straight into the Crimson Forest to find his love. He never came out again.

Shortly after Rebekah’s family raised symbolic tombstones for both her and Jon, Bo’s little brother also disappeared.

It took everything inside Maggie to keep Bo from joining the search for his sibling – and very nearly tore them apart – but Maggie just knew if Bo set foot in the forest she’d never see him again. Bereft he complied until the day they lowered Elijah’s tiny empty casket in the ground. Bo stayed just long enough to see the last bit of dirt put into place before kissing Maggie so hard her knees buckled and then he turned away.

Maggie watched him as he disappeared into in the foliage and she never saw him again.

She huffs angrily, kicking a small stone as she continues her way through the trees. She should have went after him, or done more to try to stop him, but she knew that if it had been her little sister instead of Bo’s little brother, Maggie would have done the same. And she'd have gone with him too, if it hadn't been for her growing fear of whatever it was in the forest taking her friends.

The snapping of a twig off in the distance catches Maggie’s attention and suddenly, despite her previous bravery and reasons for being here, the fear is back, breathing down her neck as it squeezes her tight again.

She holds her breath not moving a centimeter as she listens in.

Maggie hears nothing more but as she releases the air in a relieved whoosh – chastising herself for her foolish fright – she hears another snapping twig. This time though, it came from behind her and was much closer…

Maggie froze.

She could hardly hear anything over the sudden pounding of her heart and for the first time in her life she wished she had the ability to stop it from beating altogether.

Another moment later and it felt as if someone were gently pulling on the ends of her long hair. Maggie had not another thought before she was running, as fast as her feet could carry her – in the wrong direction.

But Maggie had no idea as she continued her grand escape running straight through a clearing she’d never seen. She stopped short, saving herself from an unsuspecting plunge into the icy waters of the lake she could only guess was the lake.

Once she’d gather herself enough she took in her surroundings scanning the perimeter of the vast body of water before her. A movement caught her eye high on a cliff to the east and then another to the north followed by another to the west.

Maggie’s eyes could hardly make out anything save for the bright flashes of color from whatever it was that had drawn her here. She closed them tightly hoping to aide them in adjusting to the bright moonlight but nothing could prepare her for what she saw when she finally opened them again.

There, moving through the icy water like it was nothing was a large scaly body. Her eyes then darted to the east where another large form was descending the cliff. To the west another smaller yet no less terrifying scaly…thing was moving towards her.

Maggie had no idea what was coming towards her but she did know that she’d had just about enough of this forest and everything that had to do with it. Steeling her nerves she turned preparing to run when she collided with something warm.

She crashed to the ground from the unexpected impact and then scrambled back as the giant scaled dragon dog started to move towards her. Maggie had never seen anything like it in her life and she didn’t know whether she should fear it or marvel at its beauty.

The dragon dog took another step closer and Maggie moved back but she hadn’t properly judged how much she had already scurried and by the time her body registered her hand in the icy water it was too late. Her hand slipped in the mucky bottom sending her unceremoniously tumbling into the frigid lake.

Maggie tried for everything she was worth to just keep her head above water but she’d never learned how to properly swim and it was but a few short minutes before her body succumbed to the power of the water and she took her final breath in the freezing water.

The bright sunlight filtering through the window hit Maggie’s eyes causing her to groan as she turned away from the warmth.

A second later and her eyes shot open as she bolted upright.

She looked at her surroundings frantically trying to figure out what happened last night and where she might be.

Over and over again, the memories of her drowning crashed down on her but there was nothing after that. No one coming to her rescue, no one working on her until she regained consciousness just…nothing.

After a few minutes of trying to piece things together Maggie decided that perhaps going outside might help her to figure out where she might be now. She was certain that someone must have helped her last night, after all she was apparently still alive, but how or whom she had no idea.

As she moved to stand, she learned quickly that it was no house that she was sitting in. In fact if it looked like if anything it was more of a hallowed out tree wedged into some sort of shallow cave. She had no room to stand so instead crawled out of the opening on all fours. When she was finally out she realized that she was still around the lake that she’d thought had claimed her life last night. She walked up to it slowly hoping it was fresh enough to drink from but when she moved to cup her hands under the surface she realized she didn’t have hands at all but paws.

Maggie gasped as she circled around herself taking in her new appearance.

Surely she was still sleeping and this was just some sort of strange dream - she thought to herself as she continued to circle. But with every pass she still saw the same thing.

Glittering lavender and periwinkle scales, long furry tail, and four paws.

Maggie’s legs tangled together with the next pass and her vision blurred slightly as she toppled over. The second she could see straight again she peered carefully over the edge of the water hoping to confirm with her reflection that what she was seeing was indeed wrong.

But it wasn’t.

The face staring back at her was nothing short of majestic but the furthest from human she’d ever seen. There in the clear surface she saw a dragon dog staring back at her. Long snout, more beautiful scales around her eyes and cheeks, horns settled between two pointy ears, and long lavender fur coming from her head.

She blinked once, twice, hoping it would change but her reflection remained the same.

A few minutes had passed – Maggie still staring at herself in the water – when movement just to her left caught her eye.

There, slowly coming out of the tree line, were the other four dragon dogs she’d seen just before her accident last night. The dark one with the bright crimson scales and vibrant orange fur tugging at the tail of the one with calico scales and black fur, as the smaller black one with turquoise scales and magenta-orange fur circled around them playfully. But it was the cream colored one with beautiful green and aqua scales and navy fur that couldn’t take his eyes off her nor her him.

He moved slowly, purposefully, as he approached her not wanting to frighten her any more than he knew she already was.

It took her a few moments before she realized but the second he nuzzled against her neck Maggie knew.

And as the realization fully made its way through, Maggie tackled Bo to the ground licking at his face and neck and paws happy to finally be with her true love and friends once more. Despite their playful reunion Maggie heard something that was barely a whispered word through the tress. It said, "And then there were none..." The words though cryptic were hardly a thought on Maggie's mind as she chased her love through the fresh water of the lake not a worry in the world.

The End

4000 years ago, the Dragons live in Peace, but after a long time without wars, one Black Dragon come to the Kingdom saying "I WILL BE YOUR KING, NOW, GIVE ME SOME FOOD !" of course everyone laugh at him. In the next day the Kingdom have 2 Bad News, the King was Dead, and that Black Dragon transform himself to the new King, and then there were none Dragon to stop him at the point, with that all the Kingdom was taken by him... But now, 3000 years after this, a young Dragon named Alexia was determined to end with his Kingdom.

One day, Alexia, the beutiful Dragon with Blue, White and Purple details in her fur, was looking for new members for enter in The Kingdom of Dragons. She walk 2 days and 3 night trying to find some Brave Dragon to help her, finally before all of this she find a Green Color Dragon, very rare:

Alexia: Hello?

Alexia: Well, my name is Alexia... Are you alone?
Natu: Yes why? You are from the Dark Dragon Kingdom?
Alexia: No, i will never join him. I'm here to find brave Dragons for end his Kingdom.

Alexia: Okay, lets go!

They walk for 5 days and 6 nights, at that point, they find another Dragon, almost bigger than they:
