Why should you be able to adopt a newbie?: I've spent so much time exploring on this site, and have been active for a year. I know a lot about it, have spent hours lurking in the CS Suggestion thread, and I would love to be able to help a new member, especially since I wasn't helped when I first came to the site.
How often do you get on CS?: Usually every day.
Which categories would you like to apply for?: General Knowledge, Forums, BB code (even if I'm a little unsure on something I know where to find the info quickly), oekaki, trading and pets, rarities, rares list. I've also roleplayed a lot on another site, but I have never done so on this site. So while I could help with creating good non Mary-Sue characters, I couldn't direct them with more specific knowledge without looking around first.
How long do you typically spend on CS each day you get on?: An hour at the very least, probably more like three.
Do you agree to be helpful and polite to your newbie at all times?: Of course!

Why should you be able to adopt a newbie?: One of my favourite things to do on the site is help other users. I've been an active member for quite a few years now and have fairly extensive knowledge in the way things work - I already do my best to answer as many questions as I can on the forums and through PM, but I'd really love the opportunity to help more people ^^

Since none of the thread mods are around, I'll answer your question

Getting a rare pet is mostly luck when you first start off. You see pets have different labels based off of how many are in the system. These labels are omg so common (meaning that there are plentiful of this creature), very common (there are still plentiful but not so much as the previous label), common (meaning that there is a bit less than the previous label), uncommon (meaning there are not so many of this outcome), rare (meaning that there is not a lot of this outcome), very rare (there is even less of this outcome), and OMSR (there is barely any of this outcome). In addition, it takes about a month for rarities to change, so newborn pets have the rarity of unknown.

Most of the pets you adopt will be very common or common, but every now-and-then, you will get an uncommon. In addition in some circumstances, you might even get a rare outcome in a litter, but that doesn't usually occur. Over time, as less users/more users play the rarity of a creature will change, thus an uncommon might become a rare but that can take an extremely long time.

In order to get rarer creatures, it is best to try and trade for older creatures on the site that are already rare, but you have to make sure to trade fairly. If you are lucky, you might be able to trade off a bunch of newborns for a rare creature, but this can be hard.

To make sure your trades are fair, use this thread: Is This a Fair Trade? and get advice to make a fair trade.

In addition, you can also possibly get rare creatures from event on CS which will happen occasionally, but you will have to get tokens for creatures and there are no guarantees that the creatures will turn rare, but there is a higher chance, since not that many of that specific creature will be in the system since members will have to trade in tokens that are found through banners appearing on the forums during that time.
