Alli smiled a bit. "A little better. My shoulder still hurts, though. I hope that medicine kicks in soon."

Alli smiled gently. "You don't have to stay with me, you know. I'll probably fall asleep soon."

"Truth be told, I'm trying to figure out how to deal with the king without blowing up," he said.

Alli sighed. "Why would you blow up?"

"He could have killed you, Alli," he said. "He had the knife so close to your throat," he sighed and stopped.

Alli bit her lip and squeezed his hand gently. "But he didn't."

"But he almost did! I could have lost you, how can I not low up at him?"

Alli's eyes searched his face. She sighed softly. "But you didn't lose me. I'm right here," she said gently. "My shoulder's a little banged up, but I'm alive."
