Are you open about your Daemonism? Do you hide it from others or happily let everyone know?
I think three of my friends in real life know about Erastos. Maybe four. It's not exactly something I boast about, but I love to be able to say that 'Erastos just said...' or 'Erastos thinks that...'. I rarely talk about him because I don't want people to think I'm crazy. I often have conversations with him, despite this. We talk about everything. He's a lovely dust mop^^

No. I hide it.
That was the simple answer. I'll do a long-winded one below.
I am not open about my Daemonism. I'm really REALLY not. Not one person in real life knows about him - only you guys on CS do. I'm concerned that whomever I choose to tell will think I'm nuts or crazy, so I choose not to tell anyone. Those people who've read Phillip Pullman's novels I MAY be more likely to open up to, but I still will be very cautious, as I've never told anyone about it before. Honestly, I don't feel the need to tell anyone. I don't talk a lot with people my own age (I have very little in common with them), so I don't have a whole lot of friends. And quite a few of my friends are older than me - like, 20+ years older than me - so I highly doubt they'd understand anything about such a complicated topic...and if I simplify it by telling them I have an "imaginary friend," they'll think I've got psychological issues. *shakes head* It's just easier to stay silent.

Depends on the person, I guess. But generally I hide everything...

I told someone yesterday that my daemon was a binturong and first she said 'why does everyone always have to choose such a weird animal that no one knows?!'. She then proceeded to say that her daemon was probably a tiger or a wolf (to MAJORLY different animals) and when I showed her a picture of a binturong she said that it looked really weird and she could not see why anyone would associate themselves with that animal. And we're not talking about a 12-year old, we're talking about a +50 woman who should know better than to mock someone's philosophy! I don't know, it just really pissed me off.

^^ this is why I don't tell anyone. Also the fact that they would always be asking 'what's your dæmon doing now?' 'What form is your dæmon now?'
Too many questions. Plus they'd look at me like a lunatic XD
Someone 'touched' my daemon today. Well I don't know what to think of it, they placed their hand on my shoulder and brushed against Phinx. He jumped but I don't really know why to think of it XD it's kinda weird...

One time when I was driving, I imagined Erastos flying beside the car in a bird form and as he got farther and farther away, I felt worse and worse untill I imagined that he was sitting on my lap instead. Crazy what the mind can do, huh?

Sheesh, I freak out when Sarophinx gets even a few metres away from me; I like him to be close XD if its somewhere I'm very familiar with though I don't really mind too much. Yeah it's weird what the mind can do, especially with Daemians... Phinx does some very quirky things sometimes...

Well, I guess I do hide it... but it seems like kind of a weird thing to just tell people randomly. Maybe if it were relevant to the conversation then I would. But, then, I guess it seems a bit strange for someone my age to have an 'imaginary friend'. And I really don't want people to think I've just lost my mind.
Honestly, I don't think most people would get it. They'd think it's immature, and probably say something like 'well, he's not real, is he?' and I'd just be imploding on the inside because that's kind of the whole point of daemonism.

Are you open about your Daemonism? Do you hide it from others or happily let everyone know?It heavily depends on the person I'm speaking to.
Generally, I'm very open about the "voices" in my head. Usually it works just fine to say "Well, I'm a writer, so I always kinda hear my characters commenting on what's going on around me."
Not saying that most people accept it as completely normal then (a school friend of mine was always freaked out when a different friend and I talked about/with our characters), but it's the kind of thing that's easy enough to understand, even if in their mind it might just boil down to "artists are weird".
But the whole thing isn't entirely unheard of, so it's not difficult to admit it.
The next step would be to tell a person something like "Ever read His Dark Materials? Y'know, where people's souls take the shape of animals, and they can talk to them and all? Yeah, I kinda imagine my consciousness like that. It's fun."
Sure, it still comes across as weird, but I never really cared about whether or not people think that about me. The only thing I'm concerned about is whether or not they can understand the weirdness to some degree.
If someone already struggled with the idea of me hearing voices I wouldn't go on about things such as projecting, or, heavens forbid, how my characters like to argue with me whenever I write a new plotline xD
But if I find someone who seems to grasp it, I'll freely tell them a bit more.
My friend/roommate knows the most about me and my charries, and to the two of us it's actually a source of great fun.
When I experience the "staring into space and giggling"-symptom, there's no need to tell her why I'm doing that - instead I just get the question "So what do they have to say now?".Zodiac Tiger wrote:I told someone yesterday that my daemon was a binturong and first she said 'why does everyone always have to choose such a weird animal that no one knows?!'. Time to pull out your hipster glasses, cross your arms, and say "Because obscure is cool B)" /shot
Last year my form was voted the world's second ugliest animal :'D (Right after the blobfish!)
Still, they'll always remain huge owl-budgies for me x3 Weird is cute.
If all of us had only 'popular' animals as forms, then we'd all be more or less the same. Human personality is diverse, so obviously many of us will have a form that's a bit more obscure than others.
The problem is that many people seem to think that by picking a less well-known animal, or some subspecies, you're trying to show off your knowledge, or just want to be cool and different.
Just that, y'know, everybody is cool and different.
Binturongs are ridiculously cute x3 Definitely a form that you can be proud of :3
Not that I'd dare implying that there is a form you could not be proud of. But yeah, Binturongs are awesome c:

Thank you x3 You write really good, do you know that? I also sometimes imagine talking to my characters when writing, but for the most part, I will develop them through silly roleplays on Skype xD I'm actually not entirely sure about the bintu, yet. I think his settled form will be one, but he loves the hairy-legged vampire bat too, so I'm currently floating between those two
