Eeep yeah I'm only new to this thread too but I really don't want it to die out...
Also some of the interpretations on TDF are very different to some of mine and on tests. I read the osprey one and it's nothing like me... (Well a little bit) whereas my interpretation and the interpretation of many tests is more like me. So...

I really want to do an RA but I haven't had a chance...

I would love to do an RA too, but have neither found time or courage to do it. I have grown so fond of the binturong form that I'm afraid of my dæmon ending up as something completely different.

I know absolutely NO daemians in real live - it's sort of an awkward thing to bring into the conversation, if you catch my drift.

The only daemian I know IRL is my girlfriend who became interested in it after I told her about it. So it's not a daemian I have met, it's someone I have created ^^' She thinks her dæmon might be a red panda

Hallo, I'm Wildfrost., I guess. Anything related to that [Wild, Wildling, Frost, etc.] is fine with me. I only started taking Daemonism seriously a few days ago, [Jan 14, to be exact] and I'm really interested. And my daemon is . . . well, he doesn't have a name yet. We're still thinking, really. . . . He's unsettled, obviously, but, reading up on The Daemon Forum—no, I haven't an account there—I'm thinking Jaguarundi or roe deer? Perhaps even a binturong. -shrug- I'm also reading His Dark Materials! o.o

Welcome to the club! :D Don't worry about not being settled - Octavius hasn't been settled FOREVER, and he's over a year old! The forms he usually takes are the forms of a cougar, fox, German Shepherd, and Barn Owl...but he changes forms quite frequently.
I don't have an account on The Daemon Forum, either, but I do go there from time to time to read up on new forms my daemon randomly takes, or forms I think would be fitting for him.

I love His Dark Materials! I'm reading it for the third time right now (I think I'm a page 200 and something in the first book).

Don't worry too much about settling. Even though I feel like my dæmon has settled, he still changes form a lot. Sometimes he's a pony, sometimes a spider, and sometimes even a dog-sized green dragon!

Don't. Don't do it! They are so time consuming and... oh, so much hard work. Then you get caught up examining everything you do, trying to figure out words that describe you, and - no, it's not worth it! Ah, I will never ever do one of those things again. D:

Though I have to say it's worth it in a way. Seeing yourself put down in words makes searching for a form a lot easier.

And when it comes to form-finding, don't be afraid to interpret a form in a completely different way to everybody else. It doesn't really matter what other people say it means - what it means to you is what's important.

Hmm... I kind of wish I knew some other daemians. That would be pretty funny. I sometimes imagine what my mum would say if she knew I had some incorporeal wildcat following me around near-constantly making condescending remarks about everyone... I think she'd think I was either being immature or I'd lost my mind a bit. No, wait, she already thinks that, what with my staring at the empty space where he's sat, or holding back laughter at some ridiculous thing he's said. xD

I have been reading some of the analyzes again and the more I think about it, the more the hairy-legged vampire bat fits me. It's gonna take a bit of adjustment before I stop seeing him as a binturong all the time, but he seems to enjoy being a bat a lot. Man, form finding is hard! It was a lot easier when I just talked to him >_<

^^I was scared about losing Phinx's dominant form too. I may or may not do it, he has shown me lately that he does have a willingness to change and I think that's good for the two of us. I will most likely just use the info there to suggest other forms.

Hi there ^^ Jumping in again because the topic of finding a form very quickly sorta applies to me c:
It's entirely possible that you happen to stumble upon the most fitting form very early.
The Kakapo was among the first animals I ever checked out, and I still remember I stood blinking dumbfounded by how well everything fit me. However, it seemed like a bad idea to me to go and declare the form perfect for me, so I continued the search.
The reason why I gave up on the RA was less the time it consumed, and more that it confused me. I tried to make the descriptions as accurate and honest as possible, and on that way actually made them less and less so. When you try to tell the whole truth, you kinda start turning around every word twice, and instead of just typing "I'm an introvert" you are all like "But I like meeting x, y and z. And I kinda like concerts..." and then you begin to doubt things you were really sure of just moments ago.
I actually had a phase where I looked into extroverted forms. On one hand, sure, it's good to look at everything, but what I'm trying to say is that, at least for me, the RA destroyed my ability to judge myself.
If you wanna try a RA, don't get lost in it x)

For me it was sure a nice experience to sift through heaps of different forms, but at the end of the day I always kept returning to Kakapo. It still fits me like no other, and the few things that didn't sound much like me back then make sense now. I read parts of the analysis to my boyfriend, and got wonderfully bemused reactions.

So if you really feel like a form fits you, keep it in mind, and perhaps keep comparing new forms to it.

My best friend knows about Kûn. But it was not all that difficult to tell her, since we're both writers, and it's not a big leap from accepting the voices of our characters to understanding that I imagine my consciousness as some kind of animal.^^
In fact, I daresay that projecting my 'voice of reason' as a separate individual comes across as a lot more normal to most people, than the fact that I do the same with just about every character I have.
But anyway, my friend had no problems understanding it. It's a great source of fun to be able to go to places with her and occasionally tell her "Kûn says..." or "Kûn just suggested..." x3
Another friend of mine knows as well, although I never really explained much to her, so to her Kûn is probably just another character of mine.

But yeah, I'd find it a lot more hilarious if people who aren't that accepting could see what I can see.
Gosh, all the money in the world for a moment in which someone makes a dumb comment and has to watch a short, dark-robed magician and a red tabby cat highfive over a particularly scathing retort.
Then again, if everyone were able to hear what those two have to say, I'd be the most unpopular human being on the planet :'D

And speaking of mothers - mine knows about "the voices" but I don't think she has any interest in understanding what's going on xD

I swear that one RA I did was the bane of my existence for the entire time I worked on it! I kept tweaking it, and then I'd be like: 'what, no, that's ridiculous' the next day. And then I'd change something else. And then more. And I was caught between whether I should base it on how I act or how I feel... no, no, no! That's enough to drive a silly teen like myself a little bit mad. xP

It's a weird coincidence when things like that happen with forms, though, isn't it? When my dae first came into existence, one of his first forms was a Scottish wildcat, but for some reason I never thought to look into the form seriously. After I did my RA I figured I was a cat-soul of some sort, so I looked into all these different types of cat, and none of them fit right. I botched it a bit and just went with a lynx for a while, then I remembered to look into Scottish wildcats and they fit absolutely perfectly. How strange.

D'aww, that sounds indeed like an amusing coincidence xD

Sarkûn's first form was, for some reason, a South Chinese Tiger. Not because I even remotely thought that tigers could fit me, but just because he could x3 I spent the whole first evening just talking to him, and he kept changing forms for a bit. Tiger, panther, domestic cat, Golden Eagle, various hummingbirds... The first forms I looked into were all bird forms, because I felt like I would most likely be a bird. Later on I tried different animals as well, but yeah, see how that turned out. All the forms I ever seriously considered were birds. So were/are most of my comfort forms.

I also looked into forms that Kûn liked a lot, but for the most parts they were really just that - pure comfort forms.
I didn't need to read up on tigers to know that I'm not one, but hey, I did it anyway.

The reason I tried Kakapo in the first place was because I had a hunch that I might be a parrot.
I also looked at the Kea and the Kaka, African Gray...
(And seriously considered Kea for a while. The whole self-irony thing...)

But to find out that the very first form your dae took is also the one that fits you best - that's what I call amazing x3

I'm not going to do an RA but use the advice on the page anyways^^

Sarophinx has been EXTREMELY unstable lately, he's been jumping into lots of forms we don't usually use - and some we haven't used before.
Phinx has also started commonly using this 'golden cat' form, but I can't find the right species; I have no idea what it is XD
Has anyone else had this problem?

It has never happened to me before. Erastos has always had forms that I already knew, mainly because he's not so straight forward and usually won't try out a new form on his own. We have kind of a weird relationship. All of his forms are some that we have both agreed upon (with the exception of a green, labrador-sized dragon).

Yeah it's usually the same with Sarophinx. It's just a random form he up took last night, I first thought it was just a domestic cat form; it's a form he takes often but usually he's ginger. It's just that the form, although cat-like has a few differences and I cannot find an animal to match XD Im starting to believe it's some cat hybrid thing we made up c:

For me I definetly hide it. A few close friends know but that's it, (apart from pretty much everyone on here up visits the thread XD) I'm not likely to share it with anyone else and like to keep it to myself. Though sometimes I do get asked what I'm doing or thinking as sometimes I cannot help but smile or sometimes laugh and my dear Phinx XD
