@steampoweredgiraffe, Oh. my. GOSH! Freddy is STUNNING! Just look at that coat <3 Thank you so much for sharing about him! I just can't get over how beautiful he is! I LOVED the photos!
I'd heard that about some of field lines and working Goldens - TONS of energy and a lot of them have trouble flipping that "off-switch". Dixie is a field type and has a TON of energy compared to the conformation lines and well-bred Golden I've met. (I'm lucky she has a "sort of" off-switch though! ;D)
That's so odd about him and water! (But then that's almost like Dixie and her balls, too) He is just absolutely UBER GORGEOUS!
DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I DROOL OVER THE REDS?!
@Punk, Why did they cut her coat? A Golden's coat should NEVER be cut or -heaven forbid- shaved (only trimmed and thinned on the ears, paws, tail, etc. and only very little) [if shaved, the only reason should be medically related ie to treat a very bad skin infection, hot spots, etc or if the dog was neglected and too terribly matted]. Goldens have a double coat for a reason. It keeps them cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Additionally, some have commented that shaving or cutting their coats close, destroys the downy layer and makes the dog venerable to cold as they age. This layer does grow back, but in time it thins and becomes less effective. I really don't understand why people who have Goldens do it. If people don't want to deal with caring for a Golden's coat they sure got into the wrong breed. JMO.
If she swims daily and the reason they cut is so she'll "dry out faster" or "she's starting to smell" and daily baths are out of the question, thinning out the belly fur and butt feathers would help considerably.
@Dog-Trainer, Poppy was very pretty <3

I have no idea why they did. Possibly because they don't brush her and it matted. I think it looks bad cut short.

Ahhhh thank you! I love Freddy, even though he is my aunts dog, I am very very close with him! he is such a brilliant red, his mother was too! Her name was Pekoe, after Orange Pekoe Tea. Yeah, Freddy definitely lacks that off switch, but you can see why he reminds me of Dixie! He's water crazy, he actually almost drowned shortly after he turned one, because lakes freeze over in the winter where I live, and we were at the offleash section and my aunt let him off without thinking and he ran out onto the lake and got about 10 meters out before he plunged through the thin ice. My uncle and two other men ended up getting him out, but it was very scary for my aunt and myself and my mom who were all there as well. So, he has to be leashed in the winter at all times now.
Throw those hooves right over my shoulders
Cause I seen the way you look at me, doefriend, when you smoulder
Come here, queer deer, and shake that thing around
Cause you get me so high that I gotta go down

I'll bet Pekoe was gorgeous <3 Haha and yes I can see why Dixie would remind you of him! ;D
Yikes, that must've terrifying! I'm glad you had help and was able to get him out!

We had to cut Goldy's haunch fur
very short, because she's
incontinent and we were
bathing her daily, which
stressed her out. I must
say, her back end is
adorable trimmed back.
If the baths hadn't stressed
her out, we wouldn't have had
to resort to trimming her fur,
but the poor gal is almost 16,
and we like to keep her life
as stress-free as possible <3

Yes, now trimming or cutting back for a reason like THAT I understand and it's necessary. c:
(I love Goldy <3)

I don't quite understand why
anyone would want to cut
all that beautiful fur back!
I have fur envies. Goldy's
luxurious fur is just so
beautiful. <3
{@ .:: MacGyver ::.
The only person I've
ever met that /doesn't/
like Goldy, is my 2 year
old Niece and her parents.
They teach her that all dogs,
especially my Pit Bulls, are
horrible, mean, angry beings.
My niece won't come over now,
because of the 'Den-guuur'
{Her way of saying 'Danger'}
She'll point and scream at my
dogs, saying that >.<

Neither do I! Goldens have such gorgeous coats. If people don't want to deal with the shedding and caring for their coats, imo, they shouldn't even think of getting or owning Goldens.
Dixie's been referred to as The Shedding Machine. X3
That's very illiterate and ignorant to teach a child that. When she grows up she'll probably have a strong fear of dogs - and for what reason, other than uneducated parents. If they're worried about her well-being around dogs, why not teach her HOW to act around dogs and don't interact with strange dogs unless with a parent?
That's just ignorant. I just do not understand some people. >.> I much prefer the four legged variety.
It must be very frustrating for you.
