Silentgaze looked at Dapplestar, and she stalked around the Dark Forest. His eyes seem to glaze over, but he blinked every so often. He stood up, stretching his poor back and sighed, thinking he might as well died as an elder, for his hips were always aching.

Sharpclaw dipped his head to the deceased leader in respect. She was a fierce fighter and not in his life-time he saw her lose one battle. He respected the she-cat.

Orionpaw found himself among cats much older than him. He'd never seen them here. Poppypaw appeared beside him.
"I'm not going to the Gathering." she whispered in his ear, her face sad.
"What? But this is my first one, and we have to meet each other for real!"
"I know, I'm sorry." she said, and turned to look at the other cats. "Who are they? she asked.
"No idea." he said.

Dapplestar nodded back. The cat was also fit to be here, and was a hard worker. He would make a good choice as deputy, since her last had faded. She leapt on top oh her den. "Cats with blood of ice, gather here!" She yowled, loud enough for her voice to ring in the trees.

"Um, excuse my manners, but, who are you?" Orionpaw had learned that this, of all places, was a place you had to be polite.

Dapplestar glared at the Apprentice, she could immediately tell it was living. "I am Dapplestar, leader of this Forest. It would do you well to remember me, and know that you do not wish to cross me in battle." She watched as the cats below gathered. Louder, she said "The time is come for me to elect a deputy."

Orionpaw shrunk back. "Yes sir." he said quietly, for the first time in his life, genuinely scared. Poppypaw took a small step closer to him, and sent him a look.

Dapplestar spun her body, glaring even more furiously at the Apprentices. "Excuse me, but I am a Shecat!" Her claws glistened in the constant moon light, hardly ever being sheathed. More cats gathered in the clearing, Sharpclaw not among them. "You ther! Go find Sharpclaw! He is hunting." She said, directing the order at Orionpaw.
