Friday Harbor High School, situated in Friday Harbor, Washington, is host to over a thousand kids all pulled from surrounding towns. It has an average football team, hyped up by the community to make it seem like they are all NFL players. The theatre program is mediocre except for once every decade or so when a crowd of "prodigies" make their way through the school. It's a large school, yet it has that well-worn, always dirty look to it. In this school there are a host of opportunities for advanced studies, but the most popular of all is the AP Biology course.

Several well known scientists and biologists have come from Friday Harbor's AP Biology program, and because of that they receive a lot of funding. It has been a tradition since 2002 to send the AP Biology class of every even school year to a different location to study things they normally couldn't in the classroom. This year it is Mount Murphy, a mountain in a remote part of Wyoming. The trip costs a mere $400, far less than it has in the past. This is because they are only paying for their lodging--run-down huts of "cabins" in the mountain with thin wooden walls and nothing for insulation--and their coach bus that will take them the twenty hours to the mountain. Their teacher claims there is something very peculiar about this mountain, but has kept it a secret to the class. They claim he's saying that just to make them excited. He insists he's not bluffing, though. He says he will tell them when they get there.

    If they ever do.

It is the last thirty minutes of the long trip. The bus is on its merry way up the mountain, precariously bouncing along on the thin dirt path. It is snowing heavily outside, the untouched land around them appearing gorgeous. The students pay little attention, mostly listening to music and ignoring their seat partners due to the fact they are seated alphabetically.

Then the bus begins to bounce a little too violently for it to be safe. The students, worried, stand up from their seat and peer ahead. They are on a particularly rough patch of road.

All at once, there is a loud bang and the students recoil into their seats. Chaos ensues. The tires begin to spin, losing traction on unseen black ice, and the bus slips sideways, backwards, hitting the flimsy guardrail. Naturally, the bitty piece of metal bows with the weight of the bus on it and the students on the left side look out to see a steep, snowy drop, the mountainside covered in large, tough-looking trees. The students scramble to hold onto something, someone, anything--

Suddenly, the brakes fail and the bus slips.

The trip down is cacophonous, the screams only muted by the loud slams against the rocky mountainside. A student slips from his seat, slamming against the window and breaking through the weak glass. All of the remaining students are violently tossed around like ragdolls, unable to control anything happening around them.

Then, all at once, the bus slams onto the ground and an eerie silence permeates the frigid air.

    THE PLOT!!!!1!1!!!KAKD!!1!1!!

The first several pages of this roleplay will pretty much be scripted by me.
What I hope to do is set a prompt for everyone and we all post once
with a common goal in mind by the next time we get around to posting again.
This way, all of our characters arrive at a central location.
Once we reach this point, I will let you know that we can
begin to separate and do whatever we wish. :)

    Follow these closely.

    - The students will come to on the bus.

    - There is a strong smell in the air, most likely gasoline.
Everyone struggles to find help to get off of the bus.
FIND SOMEONE TO HELP IF YOUR CHARRIE CANNOT WALK.

    - Once off, I will have the bus explode.
My character, Caspian, has a small side plot
    that greatly centers around this
so do not have your character ask him for help lol.

    - After the explosion, there is a lot of screaming
and mourning for the lost people. There are approximately
    fifteen survivors.

    - They gather together several yards from the bus,
using it for warmth because nearly everyone
does not have a coat on them.

    - Once gathered, Caspian steps forward and
kind of takes role as leader.
There will be a power struggle between him, my
other character and anyone else that wishes to be involved.

    - It is debated whether they should try to
walk back to the nearest town or continue up the mountain,
whether they should take coats from the scattered dead
    and other assorted dilemmas.

    - Caspian makes a huge speech.

    - Several 'bot characters' decide to split off from the group
and search for help. Someone can have their charrie
decide to go with and be convinced to stay.
The fate of these people will be revealed at the end.

    - At this point, we are set up to continue
on whatever course comes naturally. :)

    "How am I so calm?
Well, my father taught me two things:
you can't save everybody, and just because you're alive
doesn't mean you always will be.
    But I believe differently.
    You can't save everybody,
but you sure as hell can die trying.
    And if you're alive,
    spend your time living,
    not worrying about dying."

    ғᴜʟʟ ɴᴀᴍᴇ: Caspian X. Caverly
ᴘʀᴇғᴇʀʀᴇᴅ ɴᴀᴍᴇ: "Cass for friends, Caspian for family" || He gets uncomfortable when people he does not know well calls him Cass.
ᴜɴᴀᴜᴛʜᴏʀɪᴢᴇᴅ ɴɪᴄᴋɴᴀᴍᴇ: "My parents were stupid for naming me anything close to Casper, the friendly ghost." || He's been teased since he was little.

ᴀɢᴇ: Eighteen years old, born on December 9th.
    ɢᴇɴᴅᴇʀ: Male

ᴘʟᴀᴄᴇ ᴏғ ᴏʀɪɢɪɴ: He was born in a small town in Wisconsin, the name of which he can't even remember.
ᴘʟᴀᴄᴇ ᴏғ ʀᴇsɪᴅᴇɴᴄᴇ: Friday Harbor, Washington

ᴀᴘᴘᴇᴀʀᴀɴᴄᴇ: Caspian's appearance suggests he's quite the hipster. However, his own style was something that developed without influence. His dark honey-blonde hair is either spiked up intricately above his head or accented with one of his trademark beanies. He has golden-brown eyes that are a few shades darker than his hair that cause him to have an intelligent, sweet appearance. His jaw and facial features are chiseled and masculine, accompanied with some scattered scruff here and there. He stands at a towering 6'1" and weighs 164 pounds, making him rather thin for a guy of his height. He is very slender and has lean muscles, but does not look like a football player in any way. He spends a lot of time in the sun and has gently sun-kissed skin to show for it. His outfits are always very well coordinated, something he picked up from his neat, orderly business-man of a father. Typically dressed in loose skinnies and his favorite combat boots, he tends to get teased a bit. One noticeable thing about him, though, is that he always looks sophisticated and well-dressed. He is not afraid of necklaces and has a habit of wearing one tucked under his shirt bearing his family crest.

ɢᴇɴ. ᴘᴇʀsᴏɴᴀʟɪᴛʏ: Caspian comes off as a rather indifferent, quiet guy. His mind is always brimming with bright thoughts and because of that he is a natural leader. He has a way about him that suggests greater maturity than most guys his age and often gets great respect from people due to it. He tries to be as kind and calm as possible with everyone he speaks with, for manners and sincerity were practically beat into him from a young age. Cass is frequently described by his peers as "one of the most real people" they've ever met. He does not retaliate at insults, which tends to infuriate the people that gave them. He's learned that silence and brief, logical comments are the best ways to win an argument. He's the rock of his friend group; the one that everyone comes to for advice and comfort. Due to his stoic manner, however, people that don't know him well automatically assume he doesn't care. His voice of reason can pull nearly anyone out of a tough situation. Although calm and quiet on the outside, his friends know that he is secretly a hopeless romantic and a rather wild guy. People have even gone so far as to call him gay for his views on how girlfriends should be treated. Cass is a really quirky, humorous guy once he is close to someone. He loves reminding people what it was like to do silly things for no reason and to laugh loudly without holding back. He is very down to earth and believes that life is for living, not for waiting to die.

    ʙᴇʟɪᴇғs:
    - equality
    - some varying form of fate
    - traditional views on relationships: the guy needs to step up
    - does not associate with religion

ʜᴏʙʙɪᴇs/ᴏᴄᴄᴜᴘᴀᴛɪᴏɴ: Works as a waiter at a quiet restaurant in town. He wakeboards, snowboards and plays soccer.

    ʟɪᴋᴇs:
    - Strawberries
    - Kind, reasonable people
    - Accomplishing a difficult task
    - Being able to help someone/take care of people
    - big dogs
    - all animals in general
    ᴅɪsʟɪᴋᴇs:
    - rude, boisterous people
    - chocolate
    - failing at a task/someone/in general
    - people that put others down

    ғᴜʟʟ ɴᴀᴍᴇ: Scarlett E. Davenport
ᴘʀᴇғᴇʀʀᴇᴅ ɴᴀᴍᴇ: "I hate nicknames, don't even start with me." || She will always and has always gone by Scarlett. Her family calls her Elaine because she was named after her late grandmother.
ᴜɴᴀᴜᴛʜᴏʀɪᴢᴇᴅ ɴɪᴄᴋɴᴀᴍᴇ: "I'm not a lion." || She's been called Scar on a few occasions by some unfortunate souls. They learned their lesson quickly.

ᴀɢᴇ: Seventeen years old, born on February 12th.
    ɢᴇɴᴅᴇʀ: Female

ᴘʟᴀᴄᴇ ᴏғ ᴏʀɪɢɪɴ: Florence, Italy || She was born in Italy, but moved to New York when she was a few months old.
ᴘʟᴀᴄᴇ ᴏғ ʀᴇsɪᴅᴇɴᴄᴇ: Friday Harbor, Washington || Her father's job moved them to WA when she was ten.

ᴀᴘᴘᴇᴀʀᴀɴᴄᴇ: Dressing to impress, Scarlett knows she is pretty and flaunts it in every way possible. Standing at a rather tall 5'9", she has a slender, curvaceous body. She weighs 124 pounds, most of which being in her butt and chest. Her legs are lean and her stomach flat, suggesting she spends many hours working out to keep her figure nice. She has mid-back length, naturally straight blonde hair, a color only a few shades darker than Barbie's own. She parts her hair straight in the middle, something that most people cannot pull off; but naturally, Scarlett has a small nose and looks elegant. She has angular features and prominent cheek bones and full, heart-shaped lips. Her eyes are a pale grey with a small tinge of an aqua-blue. She wears a lot of dresses, sweaters and cute tights along with dainty (expensive) shoes. Large scarves are an obsession of hers, and she is always sporting unique jewelry.

ɢᴇɴ. ᴘᴇʀsᴏɴᴀʟɪᴛʏ: Scarlett is your typical high-class snob. The doll of her family, she's been raised to believe she is the most beautiful girl out there, she is always right and no one should get in her way. An only child, she tends to behave a little selfishly and does things for herself that she probably shouldn't have. Due to her god complex, she has a huge issue respecting authority. More often than not, she will act out when she is not the leader and attempt to take control back from the person that has been given the position. Her parents were no help in the development of her rather snobbish personality--they always called her cute when she behaved selfishly, told her to 'take what she wanted' if there was something bothering her and even told her she should always ask for more than others tried to give her. Even with how rude she can be, she somehow found friends in high school--although if you ask her friends, it was merely because she has unnaturally good looks and having her as a friend makes it easy to meet pretty people. She is a raging spitfire and will not take no for an answer. When angered she can be rather short-tempered and even fall to blows with the person she's irritated with. More often than not, she holds intense grudges and cannot let the past go. One thing is undeniable though--she is a very intelligent, logical young woman. It is just hidden underneath her sassy front.

    ʙᴇʟɪᴇғs:
    - basic feminist principles
    - Murphy's Law: everything that can go wrong, will
    - vegetarianism is stupid

    ʜᴏʙʙɪᴇs/ᴏᴄᴄᴜᴘᴀᴛɪᴏɴ:
    - theatre and the arts: she is always cast as leads and is a bit of a diva
    - she does not work

    ʟɪᴋᴇs:
    - cats
    - being in charge
    - being idolized
    - pineapple
    - healthiness: mind, body, etc.
    ᴅɪsʟɪᴋᴇs:
    - vegetarians
    - sexists
    - kiwi
    - anything associated with pigs, including ham, etc.
    - dogs

Alex and Jace - Half Alive but Mostly Dead

Postby Welcome to Whysperia » Fri Jan 10, 2014 1:58 pm

    Image

Her name is Alex Wayde, though she doesn't share information like that too often. Some of those around her know it, but that's only because she goes to school with these kids. As it is though, they know only her name, that she's eighteen, and that she's a female. Well, they might know she's bisexual (though usually prefers girls) too, but that would just be because they guessed it. She isn't one to share, so you won't likely learn much more, at least not without getting in really close to her.

Alex is friends with virtually no one, as she can't bring herself to trust (though she does think of Jack as a good friend now). She may not be the most friendly person, but she finds herself around people a lot of the time, something that can become annoying quickly when she's in a bad mood. She's sarcastic, perhaps a little of a pessimist, but she's actually not too bad to be around once you get to know her. She has a macabre sense of humor and seems almost cold towards other people and their personal limits. She has difficulty expressing emotions, understanding why people feel the way they do, and has a lot of trouble with social situations. Actually, this is all because she has Asperger Syndrome, a mild form of autism. This isn't something most people know about, and it doesn't affect her too badly. You can't tell by looking at her, but if you know the symptoms of it or see her fade out, you might be able to point it out.

Before everything fell apart, Alex was living a relatively normal life. Alex never really fit in with 'the crowed', but she didn't really mind it either. Her parents died before she could even remember, so she was put into the system, only to be adopted at age eleven by a very nice, loving couple. I know, shocking that such an older child was chosen, but such was her luck. They had stopped by to see the art room where Alex had sat painting a picture of the forest, a scene which she had never witnessed herself but longed to. The couple had sat beside her and watched her work, complimenting her as she went and coaxing her into conversation, something not many could do in those days because of her undiagnosed Aspergers. By the end of their visit, the couple had decided, and it was only a few weeks of paperwork before she was moved out of the city and in with them, into a house right by, you guessed it, a very large forest. They had since moved, but her wish had been granted.

Although she was very loved by her adoptive parents, they always knew she was different just like she did, and it seemed that others could sense it too. Ostracized at school, Alex took to herself and her only escape; reading, writing, and solitude. She had quickly shut herself off from the rest of the world, content with watching from afar rather than partaking in the act of actually living. She didn't want to be bothered by people, and deep down she knew they didn't want to be bothered by her. That's probably what pushed her to flee her home just before she turned fifteen, forcing her to live on the fringes of society for a time before she was returned home. Her parents, fearing for their child, had moved once more. It was after this move that Alex was put into new schools, until she finally settled into Friday Harbor High, a last-ditch effort to get their child to settle down and settle in. Being smart, she had found comfort in the biology department, which is how she ended up here.

As stated, Alex enjoys alone time, as she has periods where she needs to be alone to think things through. She likes reading and writing as well as other art forms, drawing and painting included. Not many know this about her, but she's actually quite talented in a few of these. She enjoys learning new, interesting things, especially things that are odd or unique. She likes the smell of old leather, and thinks that nothing's better than being outside in nature, especially at night. She has a fondness of fire, something that gets her into a bit of trouble at times, but it's nothing too severe. While she doesn't like meeting new people, she does enjoy watching them. She finds people and their complexity to be very interesting and could easily spend hours watching them. She also happens to have a love of children, something she can't quite explain.
Loud noises and large crowds are two of Alex's worst enemies. When pushed too far in certain situations, she can become visibly afraid and distraught. She sometimes covers her ears and begins to shake, rocking back and forth slowly. Other times she goes into a sort of daze, one that it may take a minute to get her out of. She calls these episodes "fading out", and tries to hide them from others. These things don't happen often mind you, but they can happen if she's not careful. She also has a strong distaste for needles, always has.

Jackson "Jace" Herondale is a dark eighteen year old boy, one whose temper can get the best of him, when his emotions are not strictly in check. He can also be very sarcastic if he wants to be, is very confident about his looks, and has dated a lot of girls, that is, he "gets around." Despite his luck with girls, he never forms emotional attachments for more than a brief amount of time, if at all, because "to love is to destroy,” and love, therefore, makes a person weak. Jace gives the impression of hating most people, but is quite chivalrous toward women. He is extremely arrogant at times, which can get on people's nerves. Jace's outer personality hides a deep inner hatred of himself, even though he has a strong moral core, and he also shows some sadistic tendencies and at times can be extremely vindictive, though often only cruel to protect those he loves.
One little known fact about Jace is that he plays the guitar, and writes his own songs.

Jace looks like an avenging angel at times, with his dark hair that falls just into his charcoal eyes, which are framed in long, dark lashes. He is built quite nicely, sporting a solid, hard body conditioned from years of living on the run. He is of average height, and is somewhat slim- that is, he isn't visibly ripped. He tends to wear dark clothing, with dark jeans, black shirts, boots, and a leather jacket. He has a small scar running through his right eyebrow, and many other small ones that mar his hands, arms, and legs, but one large one running across his chest and abdomen. It starts on his left pectoral, running in a jagged line to the top of his right ribs. If you ask him, he may tell you some fantasitcal story about how he got it, one that changes each time he tells it. If you're really lucky (or unlucky), he may just tell you how he really got it.

A few things you should know about Jace: He smokes, sometimes drinks, and he recently left a gang. Both his ex gang and the rival one are out to get him, but he's not too afraid. He's been there, done that, and thinks he can take them. Even if he can't, he figures they can put him out of his misery. Perhaps this crash wasn't such a bad thing for him.

Jace likes music, though not usually in the way others like it. He has synesthesia, something with allows him to see music as colors and shapes. He usually likes it, until he sees some really ugly looking music, then it can get annoying. He likes to play his guitar when he's alone, and will often sing his own songs or covers of ones he really enjoys. He may be troubled, but that doesn't make him stupid. He is in the honors classes, and though he never does any of the classwork, he always makes top scores on the tests to make up for the missing assignments. He actually does enjoy learning and school, if only because they keep him from being home or on the streets.
Yeah, that's right- Jace doesn't like going home. I know, I know, it's rather clique, the BA guy in the dark leather jacket that has a rough home life, but it is what is. He doesn't talk about what he's running from, but if you know him, you know it has to be pretty bad for him to hide from it. He hates when people ask too many questions, and will often be downright rude with his sarcasm if only to get them off of his back. One other thing he hates? Heights. He was already stressed enough being up atop that mountain path in the bus, but when they started dangling off the edge? He thought he was going to die.

    .:Name:. Ajax Baiden

    .:Nickname:. Jack or Jax

    .:Gender:. Male

    .:Age:. Seventeen

.:Appearance:. Jack has a very narrow face. The bridge of his nose is narrow and so are his eyes. His face is angular and his cheekbones are a bit prominent. His earlobes are attached and his ears tend to lay close to his head. Jack is also very skinny and underweight. He's so underweight it's unhealthy. Jack's eyes are a grey color. His lips are pale, and so is his skin. His hair is black and normally messy. He doesn't like to brush his hair that often. Jack keeps a very clean-shaven face.
As for Jack's choice in clothing, he likes to wear black and/or white. He very rarely has a variety of colors on his person. Most of his shirts are t-shirts that are fully black, fully white, or are black with white stripes. His jeans are all black, with a few white jeans. His socks are also either black or white. He likes to wear converse or vans for shoes, either black or white. Jack's favorite coat to wear is a long, black trench coat. He has a few fully black jackets as well, but doesn't wear them that often. Over all, Jack is not too colorful of a person.

.:Personality:. Jack is incredibly smart. He could've been considered a child genius when he was little, but he didn't want to attract attention upon himself. Jack doesn't like to have the attention centered on him, and he takes pity on celebrities. While Jack isn't a quiet person, he does prefer to be alone. He doesn't let anyone get too close to him for any reason. While he has a few friends, even they don't know all that much about him. Jack generally prefers to ask questions about others than answer them, so he always knows more about the people around him than they do him.
Even though Jack doesn't let people get close to him, most people trust him with stuff. He likes to be considered trustworthy and prides himself on it. If he needs to, he could take most secrets to his grave. However, he doesn't let others in on his own secrets. Jack also tends to be a good liar. He's a good actor as well, but refuses to pursue that road, so he only uses his acting skills if he needs to convince someone of something.
Jack is a quick thinker. When he plays chess, he's always thinking at least five moves ahead automatically, but for anything else in which his thinking isn't automatic he is lazy and procrastinates as much as possible. Jack is only quick to do something if he's inspired or excited to do it. Otherwise he'll procrastinate it and/or think it out beforehand. He's also quite witty and sarcastic. However, Jack is bluntly honest. With these mixed together, Jack can be a very difficult person to be around, while other times it's fun.

.:Hobbies:. Jack's favorite activity is sleeping. If he's not sleeping he's on his laptop or watching things on netflix. Either way, Jack is a very indoors-y person. He hates going outdoors, hence the reason he's so pale. Jack likes to read, but he normally criticizes any book he reads. He also criticizes most tv shows and rarely watches tv anyway. He'll only watch certain shows, and he absolutely hates anything superhero-y.

.:Other:. When Jack was fourteen, his family moved from England to America, so Jack has a little bit of an English accent, but he's picked up an American accent. His accent is like a mix between English and American now. Also, the face claim is Alfie Stewart.

Cass opened his eyes, startled as the bus went over a rather jaunting bump. He blinked tiredly and pushed himself up into a sitting position, his back sore from having slept strangely. His blurred vision fell on that of the small girl sitting next to him. They'd all been seated by alphabetical order, regardless of gender--which was surprising, seeing as the rest of the trip had a no-tolerance rule and they'd been allowed to sleep next to whoever. This girl was a sophomore, fortunate enough to have gone on the trip with the upperclassmen. Cass thought her name might have been Emily Cavanough, but wasn't exactly sure. As far as he knew, she was top of her class and showed great promise as a marine biologist someday. He'd talked to her a little; she was shy and obviously intimidated by him. He'd tried to be as nice as possible--he understood that she didn't exactly fit in with her peers.

Now, Emily was doing the same as him--blinking rapidly and trying to wake up. He smiled at her and then turned to look out the window. He nearly recoiled in shock--they were on the mountain, and from his seat on the left side of the bus, he could see all the way down. Their surroundings were pure, unadulterated nature and beauty. The thick forest below was covered in untouched, sparkling snow. Cass's eyes fell wide as he noticed how far the forest reached out--there had to be at least three miles between them and civilization. Curiously, he looked down at his phone. His suspicions were confirmed when he saw that he had no signal. It was truly going to be nothing but them and nature for the next five days. He liked the thought of the serenity and what it was they were going to see while up at the top. The view had to be even more amazing.

The bus continued to slowly creep up the side of the mountain. It couldn't have been moving more than 20 miles per hour, and it was a good thing they were going so slow--the beaten path they were taken looked extremely dangerous, especially with the drop off to their left. Of course, there was a guard rail, but the bus was so huge and the rail so small that it hardly looked like it would even hold back a minivan. Cass swallowed nervously at the thought, sure that he wasn't the only one thinking so. They were safe--it was just a bus trip, just a school trip, just a trip.

A kick to the back of his chair irritated him and he rolled his eyes at Emily, who knowingly rolled her eyes back. The problem with sitting in alphabetical order was that none other than the snobby, rude Scarlett Cavanough had been seated directly behind him. She had spent most of the trip annoying him half to death, and he was surprised at his restraint--he was very tempted to jump at her and strangle her. Alas, he resisted because he knew he'd have to survive the next five days with her without starting any drama.

The bus jumped violently, and Cass grabbed his seat with tight hands. His eyes, wide, flew to Emily. She frowned and stood up slightly, looking toward the front of the bus. Another large bounce landed her nearly in his lap, and he gently helped her back into her seat. "Here, hold on," he said, not even acknowledging the fact she was blushing, "I'm taller, I'll look." He stood up, clinging to his arm rests. The bus bounced again, and he nearly bashed his chin on the seat in front of him.

At that moment, one of their seven chaperons came on the intercom. "Ladies and gentlemen, everything is alright--" Another bounce nearly landed the chaperon on top of a student. She cleared her throat and stood up straight with a forced smile on her lips. "We're just on a rough patch of road, please remain se--" Three large jolts, all in succession, and there was a collective silence on the bus. "--seated," the woman finished with irritation in her voice, groaning.

The bus slid a little on the road and there was a group of small shrieks from the back of the bus. Cass didn't feel quite right and sat back down. He threw a look sideways to Emily and smiled half-heartedly. "No worries, we'll be fine,"
he muttered, only partially convinced, himself.

There were a few seconds of tense silence. Everyone was on edge and nervous, although there were a few people attempting to crack weak jokes. Caspian threw another look out the window, biting his lip. As he stared down he started to get a little dizzy with nerves.

That was the exact moment that he heard a loud, violent boom.

The bus began to slide backwards, sideways, and chaos broke out on the bus. There were loud screams and people calling out in fright. Caspian saw the chaperon attempt to get up to make another announcement, but all in a moment she fell and hit her head. He started to stand up, trying to see if she needed help--that was when the bus hit the side railing.

There was a loud, ear-splitting metal grinding noise as the bus leaned precariously against the railing. Most of the people in the bus instinctively attempted to move away from the left side, but to no avail. The bus tipped slowly, painstakingly leaning its way out over the rail. Caspian's heart nearly jumped out of his chest, and he looked to the side to see Emily taking short, gasping breaths. "We'll be okay," he choked to her, reaching out and pulling her head into his chest just as the bus finally rolled off the side of the mountain.
