Raventail had been hunting alone; so far, he had caught a plump mouse, and a not-so-plump sparrow - which had been quite a lucky catch. He hadn't seen any of the apprentices yet, and the sun was already high in the sky. The tom would have to head back soon, but first he wanted to look around the forest for his apprentice. However, something cut him off. Hearing a loud yowl echoing through the forest, he pricked his ears, recognizing the sound. Whitepaw? At that moment, the apprentice burst through the trees, yowling for someone. "Whitepaw? Whitepaw! What happened?" he asked. His apprentice's demeanor was frantic and panicky, which was unusual for him. This unsettled Raventail a little - something had to be seriously wrong.

Whitepaw stopped running, almost tripping over as he halted himself. "Oh thank Starclan. There's a..." his lips curled in disgust. How should he explain? 'There's a cat, who looked like they had been brutally murdered, rotting in the middle of the territory.'? He glanced back in the direction he ran from. "I'll just show you..." Whitepaw turned and began to sprint back as fast as he could. However, when he arrived back where the cat had been, it was gone.

(*gasp*)

The white cat was panting and seemed extremely nervous. He started to explain, but then simply said, 'I'll just show you' and ran off. Following his apprentice, Raventail was confused; as he wasn't paying much attention to his surroundings, he was whacked in the face by a branch that was sticking out of a bush. Ugh, what in the name of StarClan is he freaking out about? he thought. This better be for a good reason. When Whitepaw stopped suddenly, he had to halt so as to not run into him. Whitepaw looked extremely confused. "Well, what was that about?" Raventail asked. Instead of anger surging out of him for the false alarm, he felt a pang of worry. Is there something wrong with him? Was he seeing things...?

Whitepaw's eyes widened. "I swear it was there!" he said, padding a little closer. He sniffed the air, and caught a whiff of the rotting scent again. "Can you smell it? I swear! I really di-...." Whitepaw trailed off when a drop of blood splattered onto the ground in front of him, missing his face by a whiskerlength. He looked up at the tree in front of them slowly and backed away until he was behind Raventail. "On the t-tree branch..."

He looked at Whitepaw strangely. "What was here?" But at the same moment as the apprentice, he caught a weird scent - it smelled like something rotting. His heart beating faster, he looked up as a drop of blood fell down in front of Whitepaw, and the white cat backed away so he was behind Raventail. When Whitepaw stuttered, 'On the t-tree branch...' Raventail glanced upwards; his eyes widened as he looked at the terrifying sight. There was a dead grey cat lying limp on the branch. "I-is this what you were talking about...?" he asked, feeling uncertain of what they should do. A disgusting rank scent carried downwards from the tree. "It looks like..." His jaw dropped as he thought, Murder. It looked like the cat had died brutally, it couldn't have been an accident from the way the body looked. His sight started to blur around him and he felt like vomiting. Suddenly an even more terrifying thing lingered in his mind, one that he couldn't forget. What if the murderer was still here? "Whitepaw... run," he whispered, nudging the cat behind him to leave. They needed to leave the area as quickly as possible.

Frostleaf was walking aimlessly around camp. She was bored and had nothing to do. Her feathery ginger tail swished back and forth, back and forth. It was nice out today. Finally she decided to leave camp and go entertain herself by hunting. Wandering around, the little she-cat stumbled upon Raventail, another warrior, and Whitepaw, a young tom. He was looking up into a tree branch and Frostleaf followed his gaze. There was a dead gray cat in the trees. She gasped in fear. Blood was dripping from the limp body and she turned to Raventail. "What is this?" she whispered, shocked.

Whitepaw gulped. "I-I think we should all get away from here..." he said, his eyes darting around. "I swear the cat was on the ground before I left it to look for you." He jumped when he heard Frostleaf talk, and shrugged in reply. "I have no idea.... I was just hunting when I found it." He looked at them. "Should we go?" he asked, backing away from the scene.

When he saw Frostleaf, he felt a little relieved that someone else was here now; they had more backup in case something did happen. "Yes, we should go... find a patrol or some other cats, but don't go back to camp." He was probably being paranoid, but Raventail was against the idea of heading back to camp. It seemed like a safe place - but what if there really was... some murderer out in the forest, near the three cats? What if something was watching-- He quickly cut himself off from these thoughts. "Let's go. Now," he urged, taking one last glance at the dead corpse in the tree. He nudged Whitepaw and Frostleaf, and fled, starting off at a trot to make sure the other cats were following. He smelled another strange scent, coming from behind him. It smelled like another cat... a cat that was alive, and unfamiliar. "Quick!" he meowed to Whitepaw and Frostleaf. They needed to find Morningstar, or some other cat, fast.
