Ranks-
Alpha- The Alpha of a pack is the leader, protector, and mentor of all the Betas in his pack, not to mention the lowly Omega as well, and is always a male. He must be physically fit, mentally sharp, and emotionally strong in order to lead a group of fellow werewolves who may or may not be newly bitten. Newly bitten werewolves are very violent and tend to go on killing sprees if their Alpha isn't strong enough to keep them in control. When the Alpha comes into his rank, he must have a female by his side or else it will cause tension and fights amongst the members in the pack. Normally, he will seek out the strongest female in the pack and take her as his mate, whom he will keep for only 5 years before he searches for another to take her spot. Betas can become an Alpha by either killing an Alpha and stealing his power or if they are what is called a "True Alpha". "True Alphas" are very rare and are Betas that become Alphas just by sheer will and character, they don't have to steal the power like others do. The Alphas are the only ones able to create more werewolves, which always start out as Betas or Omegas depending on wiether or not they join the Alpha's pack. (Strengths/Weaknesses - Moon Phases has more information)
Beta- The Betas of a pack are the normal members that make up the majority of the numbers. Betas can be both male and female, but it's the males that are normally more dominant than the females. The Alpha is the highest rank with the most power and dominance, the Betas beneath him fight amongst themselves in order to establish their own lesser heirarchy. All newly bitten werewolves become Betas if they decide to join either the pack of the Alpha who bit them or a different Alpha's pack.
Omega- The Omega can be either a lone werewolf that wonders the earth alone, or it can be the lowest rank in a pack. Lone werewolves are normally killed by Hunters if found and aren't as strong as an Omega in a pack so there aren't many lone werewolves wondering around. The Omega in a pack is pretty much the scapegoat for the pack, forced to take the abuse and anger from the whole pack including the Alpha himself. Like the Betas, Omegas can also become an Alpha by killing and stealing the power, but they are too weak to become a "True Alpha" like a Beta could.
Body Forms-
Human- The base form for all werewolves, it is the normal looking exterior that helps us hide amongst the humans.
Wolf- A true wolf form is just as common as most legends and stories claim, but the werewolves over in Europe tend to be more humanoid with excessive fur and a muzzle as shown in a few classic werewolf movies. This form is a fully animal form, but it is nearly twice the size of any normal canine. Colors can range from solid black to solid white to even red or steel grey, but most wolves tend to be a mixture of greys or browns.
Eye Colors-
Red- Only the Alphas can have red eyes, it is like a badge to show everyone else who they are. When a Beta becomes an Alpha, their eyes turn red and when an Alpha looses his spot as Alpha, his eyes will turn back to either yellow or blue.
Blue- Blue eyes are rather uncommon and aren't prized at all. A werewolf will only get blue eyes from killing an innocent human and the color never changes back to yellow. If a blue-eyed werewolf becomes an Alpha, then their eyes change to an Alpha's red, but once they loose that spot their eyes will return to that cold blue.
Yellow- Yellow is the color for a normal werewolf, either a Beta or an Omega. If an Alpha looses their spot and becomes a Beta again, and hasn't killed an innocent, their eyes will turn back to a vibrant yellow.
Strengths/Weaknesses-
Special Abilities- Just like humans, werewolves with special abilities are very rare and very prized. The most prized ability would have to be a fully canine form since every other werewolf has only a partial form. Females with a fully canine form is highly sought after and males will kill each other over her if necessary. Some werewolves have higher senses than other werewolves, even during an eclipse, but such a skill isn't as prized as most other skills. Fighting skills or hunting skills are prized as well, especially with females. Mental abilities are very much prized like a full canine form since the ability can be used against other packs during battles or it can just help the pack in the human world. Some mental abilities are better than others such as mind-control or just mind reading which would be better than the ability to talk mentally to animals. Telekinesis is probably the best mental ability to have, which is the ability to move objects with the mind.
Senses- Werewolves have heightened sences of smell, hearing, and agility. They can hear a heartbeat from over a hundred yards away just in their human form, but once in their partial state a werewolf can hear even farther away. While in human form, their eyes aren't the greatest, only slightly better than the average human, but once in their partial form their eyes are like that of a hawk, seeing farther than a normal canine could.
Herbs/Spices/Metals-
Mountain Ash: A tree normally burnt down into an ashen state and used to create a barrier that is impossible for a werewolf to cross.
Mistletoe: A plant traditionally used during Christmas, but is deathly poisonous to both humans and werewolves.
Wolf's bane: A plant that can either kill a werewolf or cause them to shift, it can even be used in healing. Wolf's bane laced gunpowder can be burnt into ash and applied to the gunshot wound, it will reverse the effects of the plant.
Silver: A bright greyish metal that is used in jewelry. Many folklore and legends concerning werewolves believe that silver is deadly to them, but realistically it isn't. Silver may cause a light rash or slight allergic reaction, but nothing very serious.
Moon Phases-
Full Moon: When the moon is full, the werewolves are at full power. All newly made werewolves are still under it's spell and is forced to shift underneath it's bright light. Older werewolves are more immune to it's call and can choose to stay in human form if they so wish.
Eclipse: When the moon is in an eclipse, may it be lunar or solar, werewolves loose all of their power. The power they get from the moon is blocked by the sun/Earth during an eclipse so all of their powers are blocked, making them as weak as a common human. Once the eclipse passes the werewolves get all of their powers back.
Blood Moon: When the moon is full and the color of fresh blood, werewolves gain even more power than they would during a normal full moon. Their senses heighten to new limits and are nearly driven insane by them. Most newly made wolves are kept chained underground so they don't go and attack people when their senses make them go crazy. The only real plus side to the Blood Moon is that anyone can become an Alpha during the Blood Moon, females included. A female can kill an Alpha under the Blood Moon and take his Alpha spark or powers to become an Alpha herself. After the Blood Moon passes, the female will stay Alpha until someone kills her for it, or just steals it, like they would any other Alpha. Many females aren't strong enough to become an Alpha during the Blood Moon, since males are almost always stronger than them, and/or they aren't strong enough to keep the rank after the moon phase passes even if she is stronger than she was as a Beta or Omega. There is a small handful of females that are strong enough to keep their rank after the moon phase ends, but they are pretty rare since most of them have a special ability of some kind may it be a complete wolf form or a telepathic ability such as telekinesis.
