Interesting questions. To answer them:

I don't think I could pick favorite characters. Legolas was my first favorite in the series and I still have a soft spot for him. I'm awfully fond of Boromir, because his story has to have such a tragic end in order to redeem his other misdeeds. I also feel like a lot of people misunderstand him as a character because they haven't read the books--he comes across very differently there and you get much more information about him and his family. The extended cuts of the movies also help with this. I also love Gollum--a sympathetic villain and a morally "gray" character if I ever saw one. Not to mention I find him funny. I've also come to appreciate Gimli on subsequent re-reads, much more than I did the first few times. He has a lot of depth that was also lost in the book-to-movie adaptation.

Favorite scene? I've always loved the Moria chapters. Beautiful ancient ruins, abandoned and infused with mystery, magic, and danger, spiced with poetry and legend? Yes please.

Who do I want to slap? Gotta agree with Captain Greenleaf and say Denethor. So blind to everything around him that he nearly turns Minas Tirith over to the orcs for plundering. Although Wormtongue is also a tempting candidate, considering all the mayhem he's worked over the years.

Strangest/funniest thing I've ever been told about the series? I can't really answer this one. Nothing beats the documentaries included in the extended cuts of the movies--so much funny, weird, and simply awesome stuff on there that I can't choose. Each of them has 2 disks of movie and commentary, plus two or three more disks of interviews and behind-the-scenes (two per movie for the older DVD release, three per movie for the newer bluray release). If you're a Tolkien fan and you haven't looked these up, I highly suggest you do so. They're amazing.

'ello again, everyone! :3
I'm starting a new LOTR fanfic and am determined for it to be successful. Therefore I am turning to you wonderful people for criticism x3

But anyways, does the beginning of this chapter sound good to you?

The sky was clear in the last throes of sunset, and despite the winter season, the air was pleasantly warm. Early stars winked pleasantly down towards the residents of Middle-earth below; the heavens shifted from pale pink, to orange, and finally to a deep refreshing navy blue that heralded the arrival of the Moon.
A mere hour later, and mischievous clouds crept in and crowded the night sky. They gathered together and grew heavier and heavier, and then in one final burst they yielded to the rain. Large fat drops pounded down and down, falling from the clouds and beating upon the earth. But the ground was still quite damp from the many previous downpours from the days before, and the fresh onset of water pooled among the tall thick grasses, forming puddles all over the terrain.
Below the skies, below the clouds, and amidst the pouring rain sat one very miserable and wet hobbit.

Ten days before, one certain Peregrin Took had eagerly jumped into the Council of Elrond, and much to the young hobbit’s delight he had joined the Fellowship of the Ring and shortly afterwards the Company had set out. Now, however, Pippin was beginning to seriously regret his hasty decision.

“When we set out to save the world, nobody said anything about rain,” Pippin lamented aloud, though there was nobody save himself to hear him. He had been sitting on this cold wet rock throughout his entire two-hour watch. Drawing his Blade of Westernesse and surveying its gleaming surface dully, he added, “And I’m blaming Gandalf if my sword starts to rust.

Inwardly the hobbit knew it was rather unfair to blame Mithrandir; wizard though he was, Gandalf had no power over the weather of the world. But nonetheless Pippin continued talking, if only out of the pleasure of hearing his own voice.

I absolutely detest these barren wastelands; the wind batters us all day long, the rain pounds down on us mercilessly, we are out in the open so spies of the enemy can easily see us, and overall its cold,” he complained, examining his blade’s tip. Deciding it needed a good sharpening, he got up from his seat and headed towards where the rest of the Company rested beneath a scrawny tree. He instinctively lowered his voice though he continued to talk to himself.

Poor Frodo; he’s burdened enough as it is with the Ring at all, and the wet can’t be helping his injured shoulder at all. Sam has done nothing but fret these past few days, and even dear old Merry seems to be getting grumpier,” the Took continued, picking his way through the sleeping bodies. He hopped over a snoring Gimli and then Boromir, but he stopped in front of Gandalf, who was propped against the tree with his hat drawn over his eyes. Pippin stood with a wide stance and drew his brows together in a surprisingly impressive mimic of Gandalf in one of his ‘moods’. “Now see here you tom-fool of a Took,” Pippin growled softly, so as not to wake the wizard. “I will not stand your mischievous behaviors nor your idiocy, so go and stand at the end of the line while I continue to push this Fellowship to impossible ends.

Brilliant! I love it so far. Your descriptive detail is wonderful; I saw the sky change colors and felt the downpour.

Keep up the good work; I look forward to your next excerpt!
What a view, huh?

Favourite characters?: Boromir, for one. He doesn't get enough credit in the movies, you can't really appreciate him untill you've read the book. Merry, I can't believe that they didn't make him kill the witch-king in the book. That was a shining moment for him and they ruined it, And of course, Sam :3

Favorite scene?: In the book, when Merry kills the witch-king. In the movie, Sam's speech at the end of the two towers.

Who do I want to slap?: No one. Each character has purpose for what he or she does.

Strangest/funniest thing I've ever been told about the series?: No idea.

Personally I like the movie cause Eowyn a female a very strong female characters kills the witch king it doesn't look good if a flipping hobbit kills him it makes no sense either.

I get why they did the ''strong female'' thing. But Tolkien wrote that Merry killed him. It was his hero moment.

Tolkien is also a bundle of contradictions in his writings especially.

Tolkien's books set the law in my mind. I can see why he did it.

I get that they need to make changes in movies, but still.

I don't like it when people wish things where the other way around I got news for you stop thinking that stop wishing and let it go. You can't change a movie that already been made so stop trying to wish it was this way or that way just let it go. I'm tired of hearing people say they wish the movie was this or that or had this or that in it. Look the movie was the way it is for reason just as the book is the way it is for a reason. Two seperate things that are the way they are for a reason and you shouldn't be wishing it wasn't that way.

You said the book was that way for reason well the movie is also that way for a reason all three of them. the hobbit movies are also the way they are for a reason.
