The Ring has been awoken. Sauron scours the lands, looking for any sign of what belongs to him. Meanwhile, orcs storm villages and Great Spiders, spawn of Ungoliant himself, invade forests. Evil spreads like wildfire.
So this may be slightly AU for multiple reasons, but maybe mostly since I'm not sure if Tauriel is going to die in the last Hobbit movie. Usually I highly dislike female characters, but I love Tauriel. I know a lot of people hate her, but I'd be really mad if they kill her in There and Back Again. *sigh* Okay, back onto the plot! It's set (once again, slightly AU), about 40 years after The Hobbit, so around 20 years before The Fellowship of the Ring. The Great Spiders (children of Shelob) have been found in the forests too close to the Elvenkings halls for comfort, and the Wood elves soon learn that they may have bitten off more than they can chew. I'll reveal more plot as more people join, but that's a little bit of it.

The Woodland Realm. It had at one point, been the most gorgeous forest in all of Middle Earth. The elves had named it "Greenwood the Great" because of it. Although, after the Necromancer began to take residence, it became poisoned and overrun with dark works. The trees grew black and leafless and animals fled, leaving a large portion dark and unwelcoming. The elves were driven north and became wary and almost as unwelcoming as the forest around them. They've kept to themselves for this long, but Saurons influence is beginning to show. Spiders have begun to infest the forests close to home, and the elves do not know how much more until they reach the breaking point.

Thranduil, the son of Opherion and ruler over what is now Mirkwood. He has seen and
breathed in the foul air of Mordor and watched a dragon destroy what he loved. After his wife
left, he raised Legolas as best as he could under the circumstances. Now he holds a more
protective cloak over the prince, as he is among the very few things the Elvenking still has to
live for. Though he rarely ever shows it, he is very proud of his people, especially the younger
ones. His temper can be short at times, and after watching his forest succumb to the influence
of Sauron, does not take kindly to trespassers. Many have seen him as a king who would rather
not fight over material things but one cannot ignore his well-known fondness of white jewels
and silver.
His physical appearance also fits that of a king. He wears a crown that changes with the
seasons and wields a long oak staff. His back stays straight and he walks with regal grace,
head held high. Those qualities matched with his silver robes and piercing blue eyes can
intimidate some of the strongest of enemies. played by ⇀ me
Laegolas Thranduilion 'Greenleaf' of the Woodland Realm. This elf is younger than most elves one
would see; his age is hardly over nine yén, or about 1250 summers in a mortal's years. Indeed
there are hardly any elves left that are his age, as elflings are rare and hard to come by in
these dark times. Legolas' personality is not unlike that of the rest of his kind. As is wont of
certain elves, he is generally quiet and introverted, preferring the silence and calm of the trees
than the chatter and merrymaking of his father's feasts. He has a level head and it takes much
to annoy him or make him angry, as his temper is slow. He believes in mutual kindness;
respect him and he will respect you.
He is quite the elf in battle; wielding his deadly bow and arrows as well as his long knife, one
would not want to cross him in a fierce squall. Despite his fighting skills, however, he is merciful,
and will not kill without need. The only things he does not show mercy to are the children of
Ungoliant, as well as the spawns of Mordor.played by ⇀ Captain Greenleaf
The head of the Silvan guard, Tauriel is little more than a child in Elven standards, being just
over six hundred years of age. However, only a fool would look at her and mistake her for
a naïve youngster, for this elf is a formidable warrior, particularly skilled in using a bow
and arrow, as well as the filigreed daggers she carries. Brought up in Thranduil's Court ever
since her parents were murdered by Orcs, she knows that she is seen by the King as almost
a daughter and has a close friendship with the Prince, Legolas, although she sees him as a
brother and nothing more.
Tauriel is passionate, adventurous, and known to even be rebellious. It is well known that
she wishes to eradicate the Spiders at their source, but the King is constantly telling her no,
that other races are not his concern. She longs to leave her Forest home, to fight in the
Wilds, to see the stars with no hindrance, and after being told by a now certain dwarf just
twenty years ago, she also longs to glimpse a firemoon.played by ⇀ Keriae
The embodiment of sharp and untainted ice, of regal beauty and the manifestation of enigma,
Celairin is surely a force of nature to be reckoned with. Wielded with weapons of slashing and
cutting, and words as sharp as a dagger, it is evident that she is the child of both brains and
brawn. For this, she has grown up in the arms of Thranduil's Court, but has also endured the
ever-persistent nature of the darkness that resides in Mirkwood that is constantly held at bay by
the fierce Mirkwood warriors.
Eloquent, illusive, independant and the daughter of silver-blood is what other elves would
immediately describe and title her, for as much as she is a child to a warrior and advisor of the
council of mirkwood, she herself cannot promise a steadfast loyalty as she cannot tame her
longing and greedy heart. she is of course is a vain woman, but for a reason; because in her
hands, she holds the demanding and silver beauty of Sindarin folk.played by ⇀ cryaotic.

Haldir, a Silvan elf. This blue-eyed blonde of an unknown age is a speaker of both Elvish and
the Common Tongue. Though not much is known about him and very few care to ask, it is
obvious from his limited encounters with others that he is one of great wisdom and, though not
many approve, wit. He stands by those who fight honestly and for the good of Middle Earth,
and it has become apparent that he is very loyal to Elves and any agreements or allegiances he
or his people put forth; he is a stickler for honor. He fights with a bow and a sword, favoring the
former and priding himself in stealth and efficiency. The worst kind of people, in his opinion,
are those dishonorable, lazy, or cowardly. It it intolerable.
Now, he has moved from his work as a Marchwarden to ally further with the King, though
normally he would have kept himself secluded to his work with the Lady of Light. He tends to
seem blunt and unfriendly to the other elves, not acting harshly but making no move to become
close friends. He means no disrespect, but he favors putting his duties before his emotions and
personal needs.

I expect at least five lines. Even with writers block. Five lines minimum with good grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Know what you're talking about, or at least make it look like you tried. Don't try to impress me with making your character speak Elvish every time they talk. I'd be more impressed with you if you focused on knowing practical uses of weapons and things. You may join as an OC, but no ridiculous ones. That means it's probably not an elven goddess who's married to Legolas and can tell anybody what to do. If you do make a girl, for goodness sake, make her realistic (in elf terms). And stay in-character. Tauriel doesn't like Legolas in the same way he likes her, so she's not going to suddenly makeout with him. Also, if you want to roleplay a canon character that I don't have on here (for example: the twins), then go ahead. I know I don't have a lot of canon elves on here. Post at least once every two days. If you don't, you'll get a warning, and after a week you'll be removed. There aren't officially any reservations, it's mostly first come, first serve. Only one character per person will be allowed and normal forum rules apply. You get three strikes and you're out. PM me if you have any other questions or things you don't quite understand. Details for forms are belowF O R M S
∆ I'll be basing your literacy off of your form, so take that into consideration
∆ The only thing you have to do to join is to type a well-written, small-ish summary of your character (much like what I did for Thranduil). Use your own words and don't delve deep into their history, just, well, I'll know if you get it
∆ You get bonus points if you also give me a writing sample of your character to see if you've got it. If, say, somebody else also wanted to be Legolas and they didn't have a writing sample, but you did, you would get him. It's a good idea
∆ For the love of everything, PM me your paragraphs and writing samples. If you post them on here... Just don't post them on here
∆ You make pick a different gif for your canon character if you would rather have that one than the one I currently have for them (as long as it 500 pixels wide and less than 220 pixels tall)
∆ Impress me

A few strands of silvery-blonde hair were twirled between two long, thin fingers absent-mindedly. The Elvenking sat on his throne in silence, as he usually did. He was leaning to one side, propped up on an elbow, his legs crossed at the knees, giving him the opportunity to wave his foot around in a figure eight pattern. He stared blankly at the ground, a hint of fondness in his eyes as his mind took him back to the happenings with the dwarves those few short years ago. But one person in particular stood out in his mind: the Elf-friend. A smile slipped onto his face at the memory of the little Hobbit, but it disappeared quickly. What had become of the Halfling? He couldn't possibly be dead, now, could he?
His frosted eyebrows scrunched together in thought and he slowly stood up, pushing his silver robes out of the way of his feet before descending the steps. A short walk out of the throne room and he was on his way to find Legolas, or maybe even Tauriel. Honestly, he wasn't going to be picky as to who he found first, but he just had to find somebody who would be willing to make the journey to the Shire. His pace slowed for a moment while he thought twice. He couldn't send either of the two, they were too important to be wondering off on frivolous quests. His lip curled downward in the beginnings of a frown as it dawned on him that he was acting on pure impulse. He sighed as he tried to clear his head of the illogical thoughts and, albeit reluctantly, dismissed the idea of visiting Bilbo altogether.
Instead, his focus turned to finding where some of his fondest Elves were. A rare, uncommonly grand bout of boredom had hit him earlier that morning, and he wished to find anybody to converse with. Deep blue eyes locked onto a fairly young guard whose name the Elvenking had opened his mouth to say, but he stopped himself short as the sound of familiar, yet barely-there footsteps came from behind him. He turned and as his eyes met theirs, he smiled.
{ i haven't roleplayed in a long time but i tried to leave that open as best as i could :p }

celairin ithiliel
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ➳ ▬▬▬▬▬
name;; celairin ithiliel | nickname;; rin | role;; elven fencer| tagged with;; thranduil
Celairin peered through her smooth silver locks which had briefly escaped the confines of her braids as she attempted to make herself presentable. Already was she dressed for the day to come; sporting a crisp gray tunic as a faux imitation of silver that was tightly fitted at her waist, and also which had just fallen before her knees and was accompanied by a silver-green trim. Light brown leggings which hugged her form, and over them, matching boots made out of the most lightest quality available but had the availability to store a sigil or two, likewise her wooden bracers and tight-fitting vest.
Fingers carefully maneuvering the stray pieces of hair to the right side of her face because she could not reapply them to the braid, she checked herself once over. "How can hair be so troublesome?" she complained. She was only one of the few elves who had chosen to tie their hair back, either of irritation or just because of the somewhat appealing nature. Her reason being more of the prior as she found it annoying, to say the least, as she was often victim to fixing her hair every time it had loosened from it's bonds.
Once finished, Celairin gave a small audible sigh, "Finally finished it seems." Now finished with her appearance, it was time for her to start the rest of the day. So tugging lightly at the tunic where one of her many galvorn silgils took place, she made her way out of her bedchambers and through the twisting and turning hallways and wooden spiraling steps that made their way to the throne room. She had to take care of her first matter at hand; informing the King of the ever-continuing attack near Mirkwood's borders, and the boldness of the Great Spiders who have been getting closer and closer to the Kingdom of Mirkwood every day.
Seeing his figure from a distance, the elf-maiden slowed her hurried pace as she continued walking towards the king. Once close enough, she regained her natural regal poise as he turned towards her and smile. Smiling in return, Celairin gave a brief nod as she addressed Thranduil, her voice taking on a silvery tone as she started, "There have been a number of raids outside of the borders of Mirkwood, but even so, the scouts have come back with numerous reports of the giant spiders nearing the borders of the kingdom itself. It is a worrying matter, and for that the advisers and myself need your response" Once finished, Celairin glanced at Thranduil. She had often interacted with the king on her mothers behalf, for she was often busy with other needs that had to be sorted out asap. "So if I may ask, what should we do about this predicament?" She often hated being the bearer of bad news, but it was unavoidable with the conditions that they had lived in.

TAURIEL
CAPTAIN OF THE GUARD
The elf slowly tucked on of her braids behind her pointed ear as she walked through the dull, dark forest, a party of about half a dozen other elves behind her. In her slender-fingered hands she held a wooden recurve bow, small enough for everyday transport but still large enough that the force her arrows were shot with would have sufficient impact. They were most often used in battle with those infernal spider whom insisted on encroaching further and further into the woodland realm. In truth, it was more of a slaughter of the giant arachnids, but there were so many of them that it was a constant war, and one that they were slowly loosing. It seemed to Tauriel that no matter how many they slayed with their arrows and their swords and their daggers, at least three more would appear. Leading her patrol over the smooth bridge, the red-haired female waited for everyone to pass her before nodding to the guards. "Close the doors." She ordered in a crisp tone and slipped inside.
She had every intent of informing her King on the problem, again. It had been like this for decades (which was nothing to any elf) but it was starting to fray her nerves too thinly. However, upon finding him, she saw that he was accompanied by Celairin, and her elven ears heard the words. Briefly, anger bubbled up silently within her, but Tauriel pushed it away and stepped forwards. With no regards to how rude she would seem, the captain of the guard gave her report. "Today we eradicated two nests. However, it will not last long." Everyone knew that. Soon Thranduil would have to decide whether they kept trying, or if they should send a few large patrols to the source, as she had kept saying for years.

(All these amazing RPers... 0_0
I hope this post is good enough - I feel like I've rambled too much in it ;P)
Legolas Greenleaf
He knew that somewhere, up high in the heavens, the sun was shining happily, cheerily, greeting the peoples of Middle-earth as they headed towards their duties for the day; but down upon the mortal earth, amongst the deep, dank corrupted trees of Mirkwood, the sun mattered naught anymore; it was nearly impossible to see through the thickly interwoven upper boughs of the trees, anyways.
Legolas paced ceaselessly outside the great halls of the King's throne room, ignoring the various passing elves who gave him some rather strange looks. But it wasn't annoyance or impatience that caused him to move so; rather, it was the fear that haunted his thoughts and spurred his feet to restlessness. As the prince of the kingdom, Legolas knew only far too well about the rapidly accelerating population of the giant spiders, and their increasing boldness as they moved ever closer and closer to the palace - even now, there were often many patrols a day being sent out in a rather vain attempt to quench the unceasing flow of the arachnids. Soon the spiders would've gathered up their numbers enough to launch a full frontal attack against the palace - and he wasn't quite sure on whom would come out as the victors.
"Oh, curse these foul ùngolim!" The frustrated words finally burst past his lips as he came to an abrupt halt, glaring at the shadows that surrounded the hall. With a ragged sigh, he forced his bubbling frustration down and attempted to calm himself by running his long fingers through his fair hair, but his steely-blue eyes still simmered with thinly-repressed anger. As was wont of elves, he usually had very firm control over his outer façade, but now he felt as if he was being driven towards the end of his 'rope', so to speak. He was quite certain that he wasn't the only one; everyone seemed to be feeling anxious and tetchy these days. The Fair Folk did not need as much rest as mortals did, but these days forced them to be majorly on their guard; Legolas no longer bothered to keep track of the days in which he had skipped sleep.
The distant call of some guard and the sound of marching feet informed him that a patrol had come back, and soon enough a small regiment of elves came passing by. Legolas noticed the captain of the guard, Tauriel, and gave his old friend a wan smile of greeting, and the expression did not feel as tense as the rest of him. Taking his mind off his inward thoughts, he followed the patrol to his father's throne, where he stood some way behind the elf he recognized as Celairin and waited to hear what Thranduil would say.

------------------------------------✕✕✕------------------------------------
Thranduil's smile vanished as he listened, but he left his lips parted ever-so-slightly as they commonly were when he was listening intently to somebody speak. He could tell that she hadn't wanted to be the one to bring him the news, and he blinked slowly, heaving a quiet sigh of frustration. As long as Tauriel wasn't there to tell him. Their conversation quickly turned into a quarrel whenever the two talked, it seemed.
Just as he opened his mouth to reply, his eyes darted behind Celairin, only to lock onto a certain elf approaching quickly. The Elvenking resisted sending a glare in Tauriel's direction as he watched her rudely interrupt him and give her report, casting an apologetic glance towards Celairin. He brought his hands around to clasp behind his back, as he so often found them when they were otherwise idle. It didn't take much to notice the underlying emotion in her words. An emotion brought back up from the countless feuds that he'd had with the captain. Not all of the arguments had been just about the ever-growing spider problem, either - especially since his son had been growing noticeably fonder of her.
He heard Legolas before he saw him and turned to the guard from earlier, who had been watching the entire thing. As their eyes met, Thranduil tipped his head in the direction of the curve in the hallway, and the only unwarranted audience was out of sight in a matter of seconds, leaving the four of them alone. Blue eyes closed in an attempt to block out the world for a moment. There were troubles beyond the spiders that needed to be discussed. Something he would choose to leave his advisors out of. In any way, he needed to have a serious talk with the three elves before him. He opened his eyes.
"Tauriel," he began, looking at her with a cold gaze, "I have come to a decision about this in the past. Time and time again I've repeated myself whenever you've had the boldness to bring up this topic. And..." he trailed off for a second, letting his eyes soften, even if just a little, before reluctantly admitting, "A reevaluation of our problem is needed."
{sorry for any mistakes :C }
