She looked at him. "Do you need to talk, baby?"

Luke sighed. "I...I don't know," he admitted.

"Well I'm here if you do," she said, kissing his head.

Luke nodded. "Thank you, Kris. It means a lot." He kissed her cheek.

"You're welcome," she said, hoping he'd talk.

Luke paused in hesitation before speaking. "You know, she never actually cared when I was younger," he started. "When she came, that was the most motherly version I'd ever seen of her."

Kris rubbed his shoulder. "How old were you when she started drinking?" she asked.

Luke shook his head. "I don't know. She's been drinking bet since I can remember. I assume that it started when my dad left, and then was when I was 3."

She sighed. "Just let it out, baby."

Luke sighed. "She used to beat me everyday after she would come home drunk, and I guess it almost became routine. I never fought back though, because she was my mom. How do you fight against the only parent you've got?"
