Woo, hello! :3 -whispers- this is my second post hi it's nice to meet yoouu allll!

-clears throat- Ahem; a friend of mine and I had an idea for an rp that in her words;


A gay rp about a ghost, a vampire, a mermaid and a werewolf/animal shifter getting lost from their world and finding their way to new York city. they are very lost and have no idea what to do and there are these four girls/guys and they help the gay boys out. I can't come up with a decent intro so this remains in my drafts for now.



It's still in a bit of development, as you can see, but I was wondering if anyone would be interested? We'd be roleplaying it on tumblr (or possibly AS), and if you wanted to join I'd send you a link, but it'd mean that you'd have to have a tumblr so you could post replies, etc. It'd also be a fairly relaxed rp; a paragraph or two per post (paragraph being five lines with writer's block and seven and above the usual,) and replies would be whenever you had time or the inclination to reply.

Pretty much the run down is four teenage supernatural beings lost in New York, four normal teens helping them out so they can find their ways back home, and maybe a side dash of slightly-awkward romance because they're teenagers.

Have you guys ever been hesitant to give your character a sad history because you're afraid that people will think that you're trying to give them a "sob story"?

Hell to the no. Most of my characters have abusive parents. I feel like I give them that though cause I'm a rather depressive person and I don't like writing through a perspective I'm not sure of. If people don't like my sob story, they can suck it.

Yes. Especially since people around here tend to get on the rant/subject of sob stories as histories quite a bit. It really makes me second guess my histories, because if they are too sad people will think I'm just trying to get attention, but if they are too happy I will be accused if having a Mary Sue or boring character with no depth. I understand that you can't have someone with a terrible history all the time, but sometimes things happen in people's lives that are terrible and it shapes them into a different and sometimes more interesting person. If we all have characters with perfectly balanced histories wouldn't that be something like a Mary Sue? Not everyone has perfectly balanced histories in real life, why does it have tone that way in rp? If I gave one of my characters my history, though not terrible, it would be too dramatic or cliched. And I'm sure some other people could say the same, probably even worse because my life isn't that bad, it would just be classified as attention seeking if I gave it to a character.

I usually don't have a problem with it, but like NCC said you can flip it 180, and say that giving them too happy a history makes me a little hesitant, as more often than not you get told you have a mary sue of a character. Why can't I have a character that parents have a lot of money and so doesn't think about things like that and doesnt have to worry? there's people like that. Or ones that are pretty popular and don't face a lot of trouble there, or just haven't had much bad things happen at all... it doesn't make them a boring person..

In fact, I'm planing on joining a roleplay soon (as soon as the character auctions are out) and for the back story of a character concept I'm planing on using, it's just a bit, mellow dramatic? There's really, no way of changing it (depression, loss wise) unless I want to go with an entirely different personality and attitude. x'D But I just hope the creator and it's members don't see me as trying have my character get special 'attention' or anything ; v ; errgh stressful
