'The phooka's shape can be changed at will, most phooka's use this to take advantage of ponies and gain a free meal. Most commonly they will take the form of a rabbit, dog or goat. However this varies depending on location and age of the phooka. Very rarely a phooka may become a pony. A phooka's fur is almost always dark in all forms, unless they are very skilled'
Fabled Prince scrunched his nose, dropping the quill "What else?" he called out.
There was a loud sigh and hoofsteps, and a younger brown earth pony appeared, leant against the doorway "Um, fondness for blackberries. They've been known to help ponies and lead them from danger. Tricksters, love to confuse and scare" she listed off "Oh and they can do a weird head thing" she added. Prince rolled his eyes and he scribbled down the rest of the information "I can hardly write weird head thing" he grumbled, voice muffled by the quill
"I don't know how to explain it! They sort of…" Catch trailed off, tilting her head to one side as far as it would go "And then they keep going" she muttered, trying to twist it further.
Prince dropped the quill once again and walked across the room, gently tilting her head the right way up again "I get it" he laughed. She nodded "Oh! I have a present for you as well" Catch exclaimed, shooting out the door and rummaging under the counter for her saddle bags. She emerged a few seconds later, a shiny black stone in her mouth. She dropped it before him like a dog retrieving a stick, waiting for praise. It was almost round, jet black with an almost silver gleam to it. A small symbol had been etched into the top, some sort of leaf "It's exquisite" Prince commented.
If any other pony had said it, it would have sounded mocking, Catch thought to herself "Exquisite" she echoed, mimicking the high class Canterlot accent she herself never picked up. Prince laughed, adjusting his glasses self consciously. He picked up the shining stone and set it down gently beside the parchment he had been writing on.
The evening continued much as normal, till both ponies gave into sleep, Catch leaving early that morning on her next research mission. So early she did not bother to wake her brother to say goodbye. So Prince slept on, unaware things had stopped being normal. Unaware till his alarm clock went off, and still blinking sleep from his eyes he reached out one dove grey paw to silence it.
…Paw. Now that wasn't right at all.
