Molly's eyes fluttered open to reveal pale yellow sunlight filtering in through the blinds, casting small shadows over everything. She smiled to herself and rubbed her eyes before rolling over to see Charlie, still fast asleep.

Charlie snuggled into her, smiling in his sleep.

Molly smiled and wrapped an arm around him gently.

Lizzie sat in one of the waiting room chairs, bouncing her knee nervously. Her hands were clasped tightly in front of her face as she waited. Rory had gone into surgery almost two hours ago, and she didn't know what was happening.

Jasper and Austin were both there for Lizzie, and Rory. A doctor came out after a few minutes, a grim look on his face.

As soon as the doctor walked out, Lizzie jumped to her feet. "How is he?" she asked immediately, a worried expression on her face. Each of the three words spoken had dripped in desperation.

The doctor sighed. "Mrs. Thomas, I'm terribly sorry. But Rory has... passed away."

Lizzie's heart nearly stopped and time seemed to slow as her hands flew to her mouth. Tears instantly covered her cheeks. "Oh God. No, no, that can't be right!"

Jasper rushed to her. The doctor sighed. "I'm so sorry," he said.

Lizzie fell into Jasper's arms and began to sob into his shirt. "This has to be a mistake," she cried.
