Xani
- Female - 21 - Beta -

Xani glanced curiously at the small bale before her as he said his name. His name was simply Wolf? She just let it go. Her name was also a strange word and no one had ever questioned her about it. "It is nice to meet you, Wolf." She could tell that he was rather nervous and almost thought that it was endearing. She turned away, however, as another fae approached. The form of Lani appeared and she nodded in greeting.

"Yes, I did mention a hunt. Just a small one for now, however. I don't plan on hunting any deer or muskox. Actually, I don't plan on hunting at all." She eyed both faes, deciding that they were more than capable. "All I want is a bit of food. Enough to help lull the pups to sleep, a bit for the elders, and perhaps any leftovers for anyone that needs it." Her eyes strayed to Wolf as she spoke, hoping that they got the idea. "Don't go too far, and take maybe 4 others if you can. If you find a lone deer or two, go for it. If there are more than 4, just let them go. We don't need to cause trouble."

Wolf's voice caused her to turn and eye the male. A small smile crossed Xani's face as she turned back towards him fully. This poor guy was either traumatized or addled, and it was a mixture of strange and almost oddly endearing in a way. "Not that kind of hunt. We are searching for food, Wolf. And you look rather tired and slightly dirty." The water had washed him some, but it looked like he hadn't groomed in a while. "Would you like some help grooming?"

((Hah, Happy 2014! May this year be better than all the rest!))

~|Resin|~Alpha Female|~ 40 Summers|~

"Come on, you silly pup." She chuckled at the older wolf. Doing the same as she had done with Attican, she stayed on his left, protecting him against the current. Her strength was slowly failing from the physical exertion, cold and lack of sustenance. so they ended up a bit farther downstream than she had wanted. Once Ahote was on land, he went to join the Keeper where he rested. She wasn't able to make it that far just yet. Her legs began to wobble and she sat quickly, her tail still being tickled by the moving stream.

After taking a breather, she heaved herself to her black paws, legs still feeling like jello (Although she didn't know what that was) and padded slowly to join the two brutes. Since they all needed a short break, she nestled herself between the two, feeling slightly guilty about absorbing their warmth. She curled her tail around Ahote's rump and placed her muzzle upon Attican's foreleg. She didn't intend to sleep, just rest her cold, tired body.

Once her breathing evened out and she wasn't shivering as much, she rose and prompted the brutes to rise as well. "The sooner we go, the sooner we'll be back with the pack." She had been testing the air as she rested and she was sure that she smelled them not too far off. Looking across the river, it seemed that the bright wall of light had died. Thought the smoke still drifted about, it was lessening. Apparently the sun had eaten it's fill of trees and had decided to go back into the sky. "I think we'll be safe now."

Since a slow walk was all that she believed Ahote could manage, that was their pace. She kept the river on their right, assuming by the direction of the smell that the rest of the pack had crossed as well. If they could find the place where they crossed, it would be easy to follow their tracks to their location. The Alpha hoped that everyone was together and that no one had been injured.

It didn't take them as long as she expected and soon the soft murmurs of quiet conversation could be heard. Ears perked and a bit of energy surged through her. "I think we're home, boys." Stepping ahead of them out of instinct, she broke through the wispy cloud of smoke that still clung to the air. There, resting in piles here and there, was her pack. Xani had just given orders for a small hunt, which she approved of. This journey was very hard on both the pups and the elder wolves and in order to keep up their strength, they needed to eat regularly. Their last big meal was nice, but they were due to eat again.

As the three wolves came into view, several of them hopped up and bounced over to them, licking their maws with rapidly wagging tails. They were greeted and questioned thoroughly. "Bumps, bruises and burns. We're all going to be okay." She reassured the worried canines. As they bounded about, she did a head count, ticking names off in her mind. Two were missing.

Seeing Xani with Pilot and Lani, she moved to them, greeting the three with a nod, her expression grave. "You've done well. No one seems to be injured. I don't see Hrafn and Mirage, however. Did something happen?" As she waited for a response, she happened to see the skinny male directly behind Xani. Quirking one brow, she moved to the side, facing him fully. Coming nose to nose, she sniffed him, filing his scent away before stepping back. "Hello. I am Resin, Alpha of the ScarPaw pack. Who might you be?"

~|Hrafn|~Hunter|~ 46 Summers|~

Listening to Mirage speak was slightly difficult. Not only was his voice ragged, but his speech was garbled and his thoughts scattered. He seemed to be incredibly distracted. Hearing that someone had saved him, he arched one black brow and looked to the hole in the rock behind him. Moving to it he realized that he was too large to enter so he called inside. "Hello in there. Thank you for saving the pup. We have to rejoin our pack. You're welcome to come as well. We're traveling South and there is safety in numbers."

As he waited to hear some sort of response, the black brute sat, taking the opportunity for a rest. Hooking a paw around Mirage, he pulled the black pup to him and began cleaning the soot from his face. Sure he was ten years old and pretty mature for his age, but he couldn't very well clean the top of his own head, now could he? Hrafn took comfort in the action. He had always wanted pups and his fatherly instincts were strong.

To pass the time until the unknown wolf chose to show itself, Hrafn spoke to the pup. "The majority of the pack is safe. There's still no sign of Resin or Ahote. Attican went after them too. I'm sure they'll all be ok, however. That Alpha of ours is tough. It's going to take more than the sun coming to earth to kill that one." He continued to Mirage's ears now. "Everyone was pretty worried about you. They'll be glad you're safe. I'm glad you're safe."

Casting his gaze towards the opening in the rock, Hrafn again quirked a brow. "So there's someone in there? They sure are quiet. Maybe they're afraid to come out." If the wolf didn't show itself soon, he would have no choice but to take Mirage and go. The pack couldn't wait for them long. Already they were tired and they still had quite a ways to go until they reached a safe place, he assumed.

*Sorry to hold things up guys I've been super busy getting ready to go back to school*

~~..: Azaria::.5 years.::Pup/hunter in training.::W/other pups:..~~

Azaria was worried, Mirage had vanished into the flaming beast, and he yes she'd told Hfran about it, but now she didn't know where anyone was. Resin was gone to, Ahote, and Attican as well, this just made her more and more worried. Though she sat with the other pups, amoung their parents, she was scared, and worried. She whined softly ignoring her fellow pups watching the woods they'd escaped from, hopeing to see someone, anyone come from them, safe and unharmed.

She sat like that for what felt like hours, and it quite possibly had been she didn't know she'd lost track of time. She didn't care though, she wanted to see everyone come back safe and sound. She must of dozed off because the next thing she knew Resin, Ahote and Attican were back. She rose to her feet rapidly and wiggled past a few adults heading for the gathered group of wolves. Her ears twitched slowly as she picked up the words about going hunting, and then Resin asking about Hfran and Mirage.

"Mirage didn't make it across the river, and Hfran went back to find him," She spoke up then froze realizing she'd probably should of stayed quite, she lowered herself to the brunt out ground and waited silently for the adults to finish speaking.

~~..:Lokia.::45 Years.::Loner.:: W/Mirage and Hfran:..~~

Lokia had laid still when the young black wolf woke with a jerk and coughing. She watched him silently as he moved about the cave, looking at the bits and pieces of her old life. She stared back at him impassively when he asked her a sundry of questions. When she didn't answer him the pup darted up and out of the cave. Sighing softly she rose to her feet moving to follow him, when he howled from outside the den. She stiffened as forms seemed to leap from the walls, and rush out through the opening into the outside.

She shook herself roughly blinking as a second howl greeted the pups, ah one of his pack had come back for him, how pleasant. She couldn't understand all of his words but she caught the piece about them not being at peace. She heard the new male call into the den just as her former Alpha came back into the den, rubbing against her. go..be happy go She blinked shook her head and started up the small slant, pushing through the exit she for a brief second saw her pack mates, standing in what had once been a beautiful green clearing, she could feel the cool breeze all around her, and she blinked before looking up the other two wolves. They were real tangible, letting her gaze shift slowly to the reminders of her old pack she blinked slowly and took a deep breath.

"Hello then," She said watching as the older brute bathed the younger. She slowly sat down, wrapping her tail around her paws as she gazed at them. "And you're right, they are not at peace, they died suddenly cruely, I was very ill after they died, I barley survived...but their sudden death...they don't always realize they are gone, they never joined our ancestors, She sighed softly looking away from the two brutes.

Xani
- Female - 21 - Beta -

Before Wolf could answer, Xani heard a commotion down river. She turned, and hope sparked in her chest. Resin, Ahote and Attican were all back and they were all alive. She was tempted to go towards them, but paused when she saw that they were coming towards her. Thus, she simply waited until they approached and nodded in greeting. She felt a twinge of pride at the mention of her job well done, but it immediately vanished at mention of Hrafn and Mirage. Before she could speak, Azaria's voice cut through the clamor.

"The pup is right." She hung her head slightly. "I saw Wolf here out ahead of us, and ran ahead to check. I didn't want the pack to go near another diseased. He was safe and we rejoined the pack after they crossed. It was then that we noticed Mirage was missing. Hrafn bolted after him." She glanced around at the pack, glad to see their spirits higher now that Resin was back. She noticed Azaria's reaction to speaking out and simply licked the top of her head once.

After a moment, she spoke once more. "Now that you're back, I feel no reservations about going after them. Shall I try to bring them back?" She didn't want to leave Mirage and Hrafn out there, even if Hrafn was reliable. It had been a while and she was beginning to worry.

Pilot
32 - Fae - No Rank

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Pilot looked to the other wolf that stood next to Xani. She had figured that he had just been another member in the pack that she had yet to meet, but as she heard him and the Beta converse she realized that this was not the case. Another take in like she was to the Pack. Her eyes surveyed him over, looking over his details. He was actually smaller in stature than many wolves here, almost like she was. Lighter colored, a mixed pelt of grays and a bit of light brown. not unusual. He was scrawny though, definitely looking like he needed a meal.

Wolf? Wait, his name was actually Wolf? Wow, his parents weren't very creative were they? No matter, she shrugged to herself, not like her name was very normal either. Who was she to judge? His questions and comments were cute though, bringing a small snicker to her throat as he spoke of looking for something.

The female waited patiently as Xani explained better, Lani walking up to the growing group too during that time. Pilot bit her lip, shuffling her feet slightly as she approached. The white wolf hadn't seemed to take kindly to her the last time they had met up and she wasn't exactly sure how to talk to her now. However the fae gave a small smile, making the smaller wolf's head tip to the side.

"Shall we? At least we can do some scouting and then come get the others if we find something we can't handle."

Pilot was unaware of Lani's current inner struggle, worry setting in deeply for the safety of Keeper of the Pack. If she had known it would have made a lot more sense for the older female's wishy-washy emotions, especially since she usually carried such a happy-go-lucky exterior. To the blonde female now it felt like the she had completely forgotten about earlier, her smile looking to the blonde fae expectantly for reply.

"Uh, sure.." She nodded her head. "Yes, yes of course we should." Pilot returned the smile gently and turned around, looking for a good starting point to go. All the animals that had survived would have definitely fled in any direction that was away from the flame. So in theory heading away from the river seemed to make sense. Besides scenting gave her nothing to go on so right now all they really had were tactics. She was just about to turn and share in her thought process to Lani when a larger commotion came from the side.

The Alpha and the two brutes had returned. Stepping back a bit the female watched as Resin made her slow approach, walking her way through the crowd and towards Xani. Not wanting to rudely place herself into a conversation that she was not intended to be in Pilot stepped back even further, taking the opportunity to rally any other wolves that would like to help on the hunt. Many declined, causing the female to make further rounds. One brute agreed by grunting (Vali), standing up immediately and following her. As per his usual stature he never spoke a word, just following to his line of duty. With her recruit she turned back, seeing if Lani was ready.

Attican
73 - Brute - Keeper

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The brute laid in the snow as he waited for the other two to return. Although he tried to keep himself alert in case any trouble arose for their crossing, his body told him otherwise. His eyelids seemed anatomically impossible to stay open, closing themselves shut with hard hopes for them to reopen. His torso curled in tighter, trying to shut out any of the cold that he could. Exhaustion had caught up with him and now that technically he was safe, self preservation took the leading forefront. Thankfully, albeit longer, both wolves arrived safely to his side, all three huddling together for a bit.

Attican must have fell asleep during the short period, because it felt like only a second after Resin had curled into them that she was already telling them that they should get on their way. His legs unfolded reluctantly as he awoke, the cold once again infiltrating his still wet underbelly. Tiny ashy icicles clung to to the Elders flanks, the water that his shaking didn't expel freezing over the time he rested. Joints protested as he stood. "I'm up," he gruffed, his voice slightly stronger than it had been before.

It was as if the brute had tunnel vision though, his mind resorting to one-track processes in order to just keep himself going. Alertness was not in his vocabulary at the moment. Get to the Pack and sleep. Just this last little bit until he could be done, Resin and Ahote would be officially reunited and safe and a snow nest would be calling his name. He saw that the fire had receded, a small smile tugging at one corner of his maw. Good riddance.

When the two started to move he instinctively moved too, trudging paw over paw. His head hung flatly, one ear flopping down simply because it was too tired to be propped up. Thankfully Resin was spot on with her tracking and it wasn't too far to the Pack at all. Upon arrival, many packmembers swarmed the trio with tails wagging and questions getting asked at a mile a minute. They must have been a sight, dirty, singed, and soaked. He looked to them all dazedly, hardly able to get a word out before another query was placed.

Unable to handle the sudden commotion Attican nudged the two wolves in separation. His was heart warmed by the fact that they were there, the wolves having their Alpha and Fighter again. The tension was erased, they were home. The Keeper looked up to the sky for a moment, one single spot in the sky clear of the smoke and overall overcast. He hadn't forgotten his aid he had received when he had been alone, Pipa having guided him. He nodded a silent 'thank you' figuring that somehow, wherever she may be the ancestor would receive it.

His glazed eyes returned back down to earth, scanning the mass of wolves. He nodded to Xani once when their gazes matched. Looks like she had done great with guiding everyone. However his search continued, looking for one white female in particular to rest with. After all, he figured he was very much due for a bath now.

Ahote
Male | 46 | Fighter
>>>–––———<•>———–––<<<

Picking his way over the slick stones of the riverbank, Ahote made his way over to Attican's side. He was so very tired and painful, that all he wanted to do was sink down next to him and curl into a little ball like the Keeper, but he was afraid. Afraid that it was going to hurt, and then that he wouldn't be able to get up again. The cold had seeped into his joints, and every time his body moved or shivered, he could feel them creak and complain. So, while resin rested by the water, he stood over Attican with his head hanging, staring at the ground longingly. Eventually, the need to rest became too great and his weakened legs gave out from under him, and the fighter lay down roughly and all at once, having to grit his teeth to keep from whining again.

Ahote must have blacked out again immediately after hitting the ground, because the next thing he knew, Resin was prodding them to get moving again. Already the blessed cold from the river had worn off, and his side burned again. With a sleepy groan he lifted his head, looking up at her with an expression looking something akin to: Are you kidding? Please tell me you are kidding. Alas, Resin was not kidding and when Attican got up he forced himself to follow. Just finding his paws was a monumental task, as they were still numb from the cold, and everything that wasn't numb hurt, so he tried to move as little as possible. Finally though, Ahote tucked his feet up under him as far as they would go, following the others with an arched back and short steps.

They could have walked for a few feet or a few miles at that point, Ahote had no recollection of the trip and was actually a little surprised when the rest of the pack came into view. Blinking to make certain that it was not just some trick of his tired mind, a smile spread across his face and his tail began to wag. Even if it hurt, he simply couldn't help himself. Walking directly into the center of the pack, he touched noses with everyone who came near, wanting to be close to everyone possible. This took him a little away from the other two, and he made his way back to Xani just as Azria piped up about Hrafn and Mirage. Glancing down to the pup, then back to Xani when she replied, he simply shook his head. It wasn't his place to answer her, and for the moment, he was much more interested in reuniting with her.

Tail wagging slowly behind him, he pressed his head under her chin until his face rested in her chest. "Thank you Xani, for keeping them safe," he said softly, standing there a moment before pulling back. He smiled to her again, then turned back to Resin, licking her cheek. "I... I think I'm going to lay down now," he said, and still with that same smile on his face, collapsed to the ground right in the middle of them. Two seconds later, he was sound asleep and his soft snores flowing around their feet.

Lani
Female | 57 | Hunter
>>>–––———<•>———–––<<<

Lani nodded to Pilot, getting ready to head out. Everything before them and now behind them as well was nothing more than a charred mess, and she had absolutely no idea how they were going to find anything at all. Tracking wasn't an option, as the hungry light had eaten up all the scents just like everything else it touched, leaving behind nothing but this fine black dust that would quickly leap up her nose every time she brought it to the ground. Sight might work, but hunting by sight was painstaking and time consuming, especially when you had no idea where to look. Along that line of thought, the skinny little wolf following Xani around mentioned something about helping them search, and she snorted out a laugh. While he was sort of cute in a scruffy way, the pup was clearly dumb as a rock.

Pilot looked as though she was just about to say something when a commotion started across from them, and Lani turned to look. It was as if the skies had parted and let heaven shine down on them both, and her heart leapt into her throat. Attican had returned! Looking at him, her ears went back on her head in a wistful expression, and her tail began to wag, slowly at first, but it soon picked up speed. She pranced on her front feet in place as though warming up and then she let out a mighty bark. "Attican!" she called, and in an instant she ran across the slick bank to come skidding to a halt in front of him.

Tail now wagging so hard that it literally shook her whole body, Lani licked his chin and his chest, nipping at his neck like a pup. "What were you thinking, you idiot! You could have been killed!" she scolded, her words harsh and her voice ragged from the smoke, but still her tail wagged behind her. LIfting up onto her back paws to look him in the face, she licked his nose and eyes, "You aren't hurt, are you?" she said then, her voice softening a bit with worry. Dropping back down onto all fours, she finally stilled herself enough not to sound like a worried hen, and pressed her face into his thick, damp fur.

"I was so worried, Attican..." Lani mumbled into Attican's fur, nuzzling him as though she never intended to let him go. Suddenly though, and idea strikes her and she pulled back roughly. Looking up at him, a broad smile spread across her face, "You poor thing... You must be exhausted! Well, you wait right here, I'm going to go find you something to eat. Don't you worry about a thing, I'll take care of everything!" she barked excitedly, then leaned up against him until he fell on his side. Bending over him, she licked him over again thoroughly, then turned to look for Pilot.

Spotting the little blond fea, Lani bounded over to her like a joyous pup. "Are you ready? Come on, we've got to go find food!" she yipped, making poor Vali flinch from the shrill excitement in her voice. "Well then, let's go!" she said again, very nearly spinning in circles before leaping off into the burnt trees. At this rate, she would likely scare off anything nearby that wasn't already dead, but at the very least she was on her way and bound and determined to do... Something.

Wolf
Male | 20 | Straggler
>>>–––———<•>———–––<<<

Wolf listened to the exchange between Xani and the other two feas, head tilting this way and that as he followed the conversation. Though they seemed to speak awfully fast for him to completely grasp everything that was said, it seemed as though this group, or pack rather, expected to find food by finding some sort of hoofed animal. Not really sure how that would work, as it seemed as though all his normal sources of food had been turned into black dust, he just kept his mouth shut and listened. After all, he would find out soon enough anyway. Xani turned her attention back to him, and he could only stare back at her from the question she asked. Help... Grooming? What? Just how did she expect to do that? Suddenly embaressed, his mouth hung open in disblief, and the only thing that came out was a very reserved sounding "Ummm..." luckily though, he was saved from answering by the arrival of three more wolves.

From Wolf's perspective, nothing short of complete and utter chaos breaks out among the assembled creatures. Many of them leap to their feet, yipping and cooing in welcome, there are happy nudges and licks exchanged and more than a few warm embraces. All of it most puzzling. Suddenly, the white fea that had offered to help on this so called 'hunt' erupts in a fountain of happiness, throwing herself onto some poor brute who looks like he had walked across the face of the sun itself.

Eyes wide, Wolf shrunk back from the scene, hiding behind the only sane creature left, which happened to be Xani. Tail tucked, he cowered behind her, not sure what to make of this whole situation. Were they always so frighteningly fickle? Really, one moment they were all moping and ready to give up, and the next they were swarming around like black flies over a carcass. It made no sense, absolutely none at all. At least the reindeer who had been his companions were predictable, they did the same thing every morning and night, ate the same things and stuck together like glue. It was comfortable and reasonable. This was insanity.

Seconds later, the white wolf had collected a few of the others, and bounded off into the blackened trees. Immediately, the whole world seemed a bit quieter, and Wolf let out a sigh of relief. He had been so concerned with what was going on with her, that he hadn't even noticed the others approach, and was thusly a bit surprised to see one of the wolves who had just returned laying at his feet. And for goodness sake he was large. Even laying down, he appeared to be nearly twice his size, and even larger than Xani.

Eyes still wide as he looked down on the brute, he didn't realize at first that the other newcomer was talking to him for a moment, until his ears caught the ghost of her question. Blinking, he looked under Xani to the new female, trying to figure out just what it was that she had said. "Uh, hello..." he said, knowing how to respond at least to that much. Extracting himself from Xani's backside, he peered around his furry shield and crept out away from her, to sit in front of the dark-coated female. What followed next sounded like a rush of unintelligible words to him, and it took him a moment to wrestle out any sort of meaning from it. "Resinalpha? Who am I? Oh, ummm... My name is Wolf," he finally managed to answer, tail thumping twice behind him in triumph. Maybe he could do this after all, if only he could figure out why everyone kept asking him who he was as if he didn't know. Did they expect the answer to change at some point?

((My net is horrible due to this huge snowstorm, so I'll post what I can.))

~|Resin|~Alpha Female|~ 40 Summers|~

Being reunited with the pack lifted a weight from the Alpha and she sighed in relief. Wolves still approached and gave reassuring touches, comforting themselves more so than her. Although Xani had done a wonderful job in her absence, everything was back to normal and order was restored. Listening to Lani fawn over Attican made her chuckle softly. She was glad that he had someone that cared so deeply for him. The love of a daughter was one thing, the love of someone who chose you for you was something entirely different.

Azaria answered her question about Hrafn and Mirage and she nodded, brow furrowing slightly. When Xani offered to go after them, she shook her head. "Hrafn is a capable brute. We'll give him a little while longer. If they're not back soon, we'll go looking." Casting her gaze back over her shoulder, she looked towards the burnt remnants of forest. "The sun has gone back into the sky. We're safe here for now, but we'll have to find suitable shelter and food."

Ahote dropped to the ground beside her which didn't surprise her in the least. His burns were extensive and she had pushed both of the brutes hard to get them where they were. Though she had been a slave driver, she did it for the benefit of them all. Returning her gaze to Xani, she gave her a tired look. "The past day has been very rough on him. He barely made it back. He's going to need to rest for a while, so we'll wait for the others while he sleeps, then I'll move the pack forward and you can take someone to look for Hrafn and Mirage."

Addressing everyone, she raised her voice, looking over them all. "Get as much rest as you can manage. We need to get out of this place as soon as we're able." Exhaustion hit and she sunk to the ground just as Ahote had. He already slept, but she still had enough energy to speak to the new, small brute that had crept out from behind Xani. His name was Wolf? "Nice to meet you, Wolf. You are more than welcome to join us as we travel South. This place isn't safe for anyone." Another yawn tore through her and she opened her maw wide.

"You should rest as well. I know you haven't been. We need to try and keep our strength up, you and I. Everyone looks up to us and it's our duty to be ready to act at any moment. Any snatches of sleep we can get are a blessing." Again she yawned, this time shaking her soot covered head afterwards. "I'm going to rest here for a while." Pressing herself against Ahote, she gave and took warmth. Curling herself around him, she licked a bit of soot from his face before placing her head beside his, their cheeks touching.

The wolf showed herself and Hrafn nodded a greeting. He listened as she spoke and thanked her again for finding the pup and caring for him. With a confused expression, he listened to the female and Mirage as they spoke. He had no idea what they were talking about, but as they mentioned 'never joining the ancestors' he interjected. "Perhaps you should talk to Attican about that. The Keeper may have some insight."

Rising, he nudged Mirage to his feet. "The pack will be missing us. I'm sure they'll send someone after us soon. It's better to keep everyone together, so we need to get back to them before they do." The massive black brute rose to his own paws and fixed the female with another look. "You are welcome to join us, as I said. We're traveling South. Food will be plentiful there and there's companionship to be had. Our Alpha is accepting anyone that wishes to join us on our journey, so there will be no issue."

He shook out his dark coat, ridding it of debris. "If you choose to stay, I thank you again for aiding Mirage. He's important to us." With that, he began to pad off, making sure Mirage stuck close to him. He remembered the path easily so the journey would be shorter on the way back. As they walked, he finally realized that the wall of light was nowhere to be seen. It was a good thing. He was tired of running from it. "Come now, pup. Soon we'll be back with everyone. Maybe the others have made it back by now too."

Attican
73 - Brute - Keeper

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

While Lani's white complexion first hid her figure from sight in the snow, it did not take long for her outline to show up when she had spotted him. Wriggling like an excited pup she was now rather hard to miss, her tail looking like it was controlling her whole body with its swinging. Suddenly she launched herself forwards with a mighty bark, her strides quickly eating up the distance between them. She had been going so fast that it actually had made the tired brute brace, expecting an impact from the slightly less-than-always-coordinated female. Somehow she skidded her way to a halt, nose barely an inch away from his chest. She barraged him with pokes and prods, hardly seeming to contain herself.

"What were you thinking, you idiot! You could have been killed!"

Her voice suddenly cut into the brute like daggers. Attican had not been expecting this. The female's harsh chastisement mixed with his extraordinary tiredness made the Keeper actually cower a bit to her words as if she were his mother yelling at him for a wrong he committed. He lowered slightly, his ears pinning back to his skull. Her eyes locked with his caused his tail to tuck deep under his belly. It was a strange sight, such a large brute essentially submitting himself to a mid-sized female. But Lani could make herself intimidating if she felt like it, and Attican had always been a soft heart. It was only now being accentuated especially by his tiredness.

No, she didn't understand, he just wanted to help. He had to go, he had been given no other choice. He looked to her with almost saddened eyes, feeling bad now that he had scared her. However the harshness faded quickly, replaced by worry. She stood up on her back paws, licking his nose and blackened face so now that he looked like a strange sort of reverse raccoon.

"No,I'm fine." He rasped, his voice also deeper and hoarse from the smoke inhalation. Aside from his burnt and cracked pawpads and the few small burns on his rump, the Keeper had come out of the whole ordeal about the best that one could in the situation he'd been in. His lungs would clean themselves and a deep rest would do the brute wonders. Lani had pressed her flat head into his still lightly damp chest, nestling herself right where his heart beat inside. Her voice had gotten even more soft, sincerity flowing in every word.

"I am sorry," he offered, even in his tired stupor realizing that in her mind that he had done her a wrong. He had not intended to hurt her by his actions. "I know it was not wise. I just, I had to get my family."

The Elder didn't know if she'd understand or not, but at least it was some sort of explanation to go off of for his previous irrational actions. Attican would truly not know what to do with himself if he had lost Resin, or really even Ahote in that matter. The Keeper did not have as much of a blind eye to see that the two had grown an inseparable attachment for each other, even if neither one had either accepted or truly realized it yet. Ahote had been around for a rather long time now and was a true part of the heart and sole of the Pack. If it had been just him that had been missing Attican would have gone to look for just him too. Or Lani for that matter. Matter of the fact was that the brute was willing to put his life on the line for essentially everyone here. He valued their safety and comfort, wanting to see them all be the best and happiest they could in any way they could. In some ways that was his job as the Keeper to begin with. Ensure their comfort.

But here was Lani now looking out for his. She skittered around him like a gnat, buzzing this way and that in her hyperactive thought process. She pressed her smaller body into his side, pushing so that he would lay. It didn't take much to down him, in fact the female didn't really have to exert much effort at all to have Attican toppling almost instantly like a unstable domino. His body fell with a thud in the snow, a mini cloud puffing around his outline as he displaced it. He looked up to her, basically allowing her to do whatever she wished. She was going to do it anyways and he had no energy to fight it. And actually, he didn't want to.

Her mouth spoke at a mile a minute, most of it coming out so quickly that it was hard for his ears to even catch onto. Something about getting food and him waiting. He could do that. She licked him, every place touched by her tongue revealing his actual pelt color underneath. The brute now resembled a patchwork, some spots clean, many places not. With a parting grin the white female was off, mind obviously set on something.

Attican curled up, an undetected smile sitting on his face. Lani's heart was made of gold, he'd certainly give her that. His eyelids snapped shut, taking their chanced opportunity. Hardly another thought passed him by, the brute completely succumbing to rest.

Pilot
32 - Fae - No Rank

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Waiting for Lani to come back was a bit of an awkward time for Pilot. She had returned with her singular recruit, now the two sitting together in strange silence. The brute just... didn't talk. Or really even move for that matter. Trying to fill time she'd tried asking him a few questions, hoping to get some sort of small talk conversation going. But it seemed to be to no avail. A few times he'd nod in reply, but more often than not he'd just not do anything at all in response. Ahem, hello? She'd even asked his name, but was given absolutely nothing. Zip. Zilch. Nada. He just sat there, stock still as could be. Waiting. What were you supposed to do with that? Her brows furrowed. Pretty soon the blonde female resorted to looking around, taking sudden immaculate interest in the scenery around them. Overall she was pretty much trying to cast her gaze in any direction but his.

Lani's sudden voice bit the air, the female bounding towards the two waiting wolves. Thank the heavens! Her savior coming to them on excited white paws. Pilot let out a breath of air that she had not been aware that she had been holding, extraordinarily relieved to be freed from her current situation. The stocky brute Vali flinched visibly as she bounded up, voice still high as if she were far away. Pilot only slightly shook her head with a grin, glad for anything at all to break the deafening silence. "Yes we are ready, looks like it is just the three of us." She nodded, starting forwards.

Where they were going the female really didn't know. No one's noses seemed very useful at this point and finding prey by simply sight alone would be nothing short of a miracle. However stakes weren't too immensely high as the Pack had just recently eaten, but still she understood the reason as to why it would be good to have. Besides, she felt a small need to prove herself to them.

Using her ears the fae swiveled them around, listening for any sort of movement that could be detected as a meal. Behind them the Pack still shuffled, skewing her hearing. "Ugh." She mumbled, never really having had to deal with that before. No scent, no hearing, this was a needle in a haystack hunt.

Pilot turned to the two.. well, Lani really, to speak. "What do you think would be best?"

{{Lol, can I say that I really actually like Vali. He's just one of those "everyone can use/dictate" characters, but even still his personality is funny to me. Poor silent guy. haha. And I've seen news report over new report about that storm. Stay safe Resin!}}

Xani
- Female - 21 - Beta -

Xani nodded to Resin as she spoke. She would give Hrafn a while more before deciding to go out after them. Glad that someone else was responsible for everyone for a while, Xani just sighed. Sure, she was the awake one of the higher-ups, but they were there is something went awry. At the mention of sleep, Xani barely nodded. She would rest as soon as Hrafn and Mirage were back with them. She was still upset that she had lost a young one.

Turning, she was suddenly surprised when Ahote approached. As he leaned into her, she licked the back of his neck once. As he lay down, she took a moment to check him over. He definitely looked rather rough, and she was glad that he was now home safe. As she turned away, the Keeper caught her eyes just long enough to nod. She responded in kind, glad that everyone was alright. She saw Pilot, Vali and Lani all heading off for a hunt, and the thought of food was enticing, even just a lick.

As the others all settled down to relax, Xani slowly padded her way downstream a bit. She found a spot that was only a few minutes from the rest of the pack, and sat herself in the snow. Leaning her head back, she howled out for Hrafn and Mirage. It was a call for them, leading them home and hoping that they were safe. It was short, but she repeated it a few times just to be sure. As the notes died away, she leaned forward and caught her reflection in the water.

She looked dreadful. There were bits of soot all over her. Grumbling, she stepped into the shallows and ducked under, wiggling herself to rid her fur of the dirt. A quick shake once she was out took most of the dirt and water with it, and it was good enough for her. Returning to the pack, she took her spot near Wolf and Resin once more. She spoke quietly, so she wouldn't disturb those that were resting. "Would you like to sleep as well? I promise that none of the others will hurt you." It was funny that this skittish wolf was seemingly closest to the most dangerous wolf in the pack. Sure, her temper had been under control lately, but no one else had died lately, either.

((Thanks, Jag. The snow stopped for now, but we're supposed to have another blizzard on Sunday. Temps reaching -20 degrees before windchill. I won't be leaving my house.))
